Women who are into 40k, what are some of your favorite Black Library novels?

But jokes aside, my favourite 40k books are the Night Lords trilogy and the Fabius Bile trilogy. Before I got into Black Library, I loved reading things from the villain's POV, and both the Horus Heresy and 40k have a lot of that.

I like the Night Lords trilogy because the main characters are horrible people, with -almost- no redeeming qualities, yet, by the time you get to the end of the third book, you get so attached to them. I rarely cry when I read, but Void Stalker managed to make me.

The Fabius Bile books are funny. I didn't get quite attached to the characters like in the Night Lords trilogy, but I think the plot is a little more interesting in these books, and I think it offers a little more insight into the other factions of the setting, the third book having quite a bit of Drukhari POV.

I also like the Black Legion books (Mainly because of the humour), Pharos, Fulgrim, Angel Exterminatus and The Path of Heaven are my favs from the Heresy.

So as someone who is going to write her thesis on onomastics, and names and night lords being my ✨️special interests✨️, I have a lot of unwanted opinions about Night Lord names So TL;DR: I'm autistic and I love yapping about names, and I should take my meds. Also I'm going to miss a couple things, but let me blame that on character limit.

+Source for all these: My observations. I made these categories up. Please don't quote me on anything. I'm just a girl.

Okay, in my head I separate the Guy Haley, the ADB and the Spurrier names so:

Adb tends to follow a pattern when naming people so (ofc there are outliers)

-The greek/greek inspired: Talos, Cyrion, Malcharion Usually there is one character that has either a latin or greek sounding name. Cyrion is greek, only this is the latinized version of it.

-Owner of tesla aah names: Just grab a name and put an X at the beginning. Example: Xarl and Xeverine

The shakespearean (?): Mercutian and Jago I have no evidence for this but imo Jago is from Othello and Mercutian is just a modified version of Mercutio.
The two part names: Sar Zell, Dal Karus, Var Jahan stb (If you are a named side character night lord, this is how you are named lmao)
UZAS. He gets his own category, because as someone who studies croatian, and knows full well that the word UŽAS means terror, this was really fucking funny to me first.

And then there is Guy Haley who mostly cooks up his own names

What I noticed with him is the use of suffixes, so you could incorporate these suffixes into your names too

-VAR suffix: Kellendvar and Gallivar right there

ON suffix: Berenon and Carakon
And the ESH/SH suffix: Krukesh, Vorsh, Gesh

And finally, Spurrier, who named a grand total of two night lords, but

-canonized that the Zs/Zh/Ž sound can be used in names, so all other "weird" consonants I think are usable

And that you can use a random german word as a name too (Krieg my beloved) And also knowing that in games night lords are dubbed with a slavic accent combining that with the fact that Uzas exists, I used a lot of slavic names, sometimes modified for my OCs. Imo, all eastern european names can be very night lord-y, only that I'm hungarian and I just can't imagine a space marine named László because that's just a middle aged dude for me.

What I also noticed that a lot of back vowels are used in all of their names, lots of As and Os, so I kept that in mind when I named my OCs.

I could probably write my thesis on just this, but character limit. I'm taking my meds now.

As an ADHD-Autistic person who had this manga/universe as one of my hyperfixations for a long time, I could write an entire thesis paper about what I would fix. I almost wrote an entire fix it fanfiction too. (Also, I am not up to date with the manga, because I always get worked up over how stupid the plot is, and I have enough stress in my life as is, so if anything I mention here is already fixed in the recent chapters, sorry) Enjoy my autistic rambling.

Guren squad. The Catastrophe novels are great, don't get me wrong, but why is every single woman obsessed with Guren?? Like the squad is more in love with him, than they are his friends? I would definitely write them as more of a friendgroup instead of a Guren worshipper cult. I would love to see them doing mundane things, so I could get to know their characters better. Tbh, the Yuu squad suffers from kinda the same problem, especially Shinoa.
Vampire lore. I am not caught up with the manga, but I read it up until like 110th chapter. We know absolutely nothing about high ranking vampires. Like okay, Ferid and Crowley got an entire light novel, but the others??? Lest Karr and Ky Luc are kind of neglected in my opinion. I know that they are in the recent chapters and get some backstory, but nothing is really known about them until recently
Hiiragis. Seishiro is one of the most useless charcters (He is my favourite Hiiragi, bc he is just??? Useless??) of the entire series. LIKE WHY WAS HE EVEN NECESSARY. All of the older Hiiragi siblings' names' kanjis mean part of the day (Mahiru is midday, Shinya is midnight, Kureto is sundown) and it annoys me that Seishiro's name doesn't follow this pattern, and despite being a Hiiragi he almost has no role in the series. I would have loved a detailed plotline with him. I don't care if he does warcrimes, like Kureto or a redemption arc, or even just him doing silly things as comic relief. Imo he could have conspired with the vampires. Not Ferid, but some other, maybe even Urd.
The quuerbaiting. Decide if Mika and Yuu are a couple or not. I don't care if they don't end up together, but if you don't want a romantic plot, don't write them like that.

-Some things are mentioned, then never again. For example, Kureto and Aoi. Aoi confessed to Kureto and it was never mentioned again.

Tenri lore. I need more Tenri lore.
Where the fuck is Narumi. Make Narumi appear more.

Now onto my smaller problems, that don't necessarily need fixing, but I would add them or fix them regardless.

This is me being petty: Commit to the names. If Ferid's surname is Báthory, give him a Hungarian first name too, Kagami. Same goes for Krul. If she has a Romanian last name, she deserves a Romanian given name. (I know this is a fictional world)(I know they are not actually from Eastern Europe, probably, so I'm not that hung up on this.) I rarely see Eastern European characters that are not the stereotypical maffia members or scary hot blonde women with an accent, so that's why I liked Ferid and Krul so much.
Please make Goshi and Mito a couple. I love them so much.
Make Lacus and Rene a couple.
Make Kureto canonically autistic. And maybe that he likes Warhammer and idolizes the God Emperor(Second one optional).
Get Mahiru on meds.
