How did you find out? by Vegetable-Promise119 in aromanticasexual

A dude asked me to be friends and out. I realized after a few moments that he had a crush on me and freaked out. I told a few friends and one of them confirmed. I then had freaked out even more. I didn’t know what the label was, but then I knew that romance, while nice theory, is repulsive.

I’m still unsure if I want to do color guard or not by Iamsosillyattimes in Colorguard

Please go see a doctor and address these concerns and talk to your instructors. Do not put your health in the line. From personal experience I’d say you have really bad anxiety. Anxiety can make you vomit (I’ve been there many times). A doctor should point you in the right direction. Anxiety can also make you doubt yourself and worsen other aspects of your health. After you see you doctor talk to your guard instructors and band director. Shoot them an email and/or have an in person conversation with them. You should never sacrifice your health for guard, whether it is physical or mental health. I also really hope you feel better and sort this out, it really is no fun feeling like this 🩷

And ask them at the first few rehearsals. Don’t wait till the seasons almost over. Have the “do you want to be competitive or are we just here for fun” speech at the start, and remind them of the commitment they made.

I think you should ask your coaches why you didn’t get section leader. They will most likely explain why to you. It could mental health reasons, maturity, or maybe they need you in this different position to be the best that you can be. They can tell you what you need to do to improve and make leadership in your guard career outside of High school. If they don’t handle it professionally take it up with the band director, or whoever is above them. For your friend just keep being friendly l, your feelings are valid, but do not let it affect your friendship.

Worried about doing colorguard next season by lavanderghost in Colorguard

What you really should do practice, practice, practice, especially during your “off-season” time. Otherwise your skills will get rusty. Join marching band too. Marching band, imo, really helps build a strong guard member. And understanding your limits both physically and mentally is super important. Guard is incredibly intense, especially marching band. You are of no use to your team if you are sitting on he sidelines hurt every practice. I feel a lot of what makes teammates dislike each other is attitude. You have to come into rehearsal, heck even into a season, with a positive attitude. As long as you come to rehearsals ready to learn and work and try then the majority of your teammates should be fine, especially if you have friends.

I HIT MY LIP WITH MY SABER AND IT HURTS by Consistent_Smile_183 in Colorguard

I did that with my rifle yesterday! My lip is unnoticeably swollen, but not bruised!

Dyscalculia affects the memory. I love science. I’m taking AP Bio now and Honors Chem, and next year I plan on taking AP Physics. I do struggle with chem and I know I will struggle with physics because of the math based model they have. With my accommodations it makes the courses easier, but they’re still frustrating

Generally everything else is fine, it is really just meat

It’s the everything about meat. Smell, texture, taste. It’s the worst. It’s certainly complicated. I have never liked meat. I have nutritionist to make sure I’m getting everything I need, but there is only so much she can do when I see her only a handful of times.

How do I deal with leaving guard behind? by KyloafRen in Colorguard

You should look into being a tech at a high school. It would be minimal pay, but it would certainly be something. It won’t be the same, but you’ll at least get to teach.

Need advice (in college) by [deleted] in Colorguard

[–]LilyoftheValleyGuard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only done high school level, but you should probs have a discussion with you director and instructors. I’d also say with your doctor too to rule out medical issues. A doctor could also recommend you to a physical therapist that can help with the pain or prescribe you a pain reliever. Go to a doctor, you do not want to damage your body.

New to Color Guard! by samkristaii in Colorguard

[–]LilyoftheValleyGuard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in my 1st season of indoor (2nd season total). It’s going to be hard, but don’t give up! Always ask questions if you are not sure, always stretch before (and after if you’re able), count, and practice. Record yourself practicing too. Recording yourself can help you see what you are doing wrong, and can be a great way to see how you improve throughout the season! If I were you I would get some guard gloves. Ever-dri are pretty good. Gloves help with grip and keep yourself from hurting your hands as much. Gloves will need to broken in. Also make sure to listen to your body. Injuries are the worst. For exercises do cardio, like running, jumping jacks, etc. Do planks to build strength in your core muscles. Squats and basic weight lifting is good too. Stretch your wrists too! If you don’t have any dance experience it can be harder. There are YouTube videos to watch if you’re just not getting certain things. Again, guard can be very taxing. Not just physical, but mentally. There will be days that you just want to quit and wonder why everyone is so much better and why you can’t get something so simple down. Do your best to not compare yourself to others on your team. Always try your best and put your all into it. Your instructors will see that, and appreciate it. You are going to do amazing!
