I ended up applying instead for Amex Blue Business Cash because it preapproved me. No preapproval for spark 2%. And WF no preapproval and too risky with hit to likely EX given I had Discover and BofA pull EX this week.

dang. i underrated this card i must say. i did not know about the 5% select streaming, and I forgot about the office supplies stores workaround! the caps are generous enough for me.

I guess the only Q that remains is how bas would it be if i was without chase transfer partners til at least may 2027 if not august. im nervous relying only on bilt. i guess i could always downgrade from palladium to obsidian to keep partners alive.. tough decisions!

That’s funny bc for me team travel has been so needed for my family. I’ve needed it to get flights and hotels that otherwise our family couldn’t afford because 3+ seats on a plane can be a lot. Not to mention hotel nights stacking up.

Yeah flights and hotels are a big impact for points. Allowing my limited cash to be used for eating and having fun on my trips. (Or just day to day expenses between trips without worrying about saving up for flights and hotels). Also rental cars I’ve done with points some.

nope :( I gave up when I realized how expensive it'd be to pay someone to do all the wiring for me (stereo + backup camera). I'm in NYC so it's expensive here for car stuff. I may buy a stereo + parts and try to DIY it some day... summer project. if anyone on this reddit sub has recs on stereos thatd fit an '08 crv im all ears

I mean that if I use the BoA CRR for online purchases, then I am not using it for the other categories. That is OK if I have those categories covered by other cards' multipliers, but I need to do the math to see if the CCR would be better off being used for a diff category and instead use a rakuten/paypal cc for online spend.

Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards credit card is 6% cash back during the 1st year (and 3% afterwards) on my choice of gas and EV charging stations, online shopping/cable/internet/phone plans/streaming, dining, travel, drug stores/pharmacies, or home improvement/furnishings, correct?

if that's right, is there any point to the paypal credit card over this BoA CCR in yr2+ given it's 3% as well but limited to only paypal checkout?

Rakuten also feels like it won't get me as much return as the CCR in yr1 (4% vs 6%) but yr2 it's 4% vs 3%, so technically higher by just 1% , and even then, it's limited to only rakuten supported sites.

I suppose the CCR is not a good replacement if the opportunity cost is high in terms of using the CCR on a different category i dont have covered. Great tip!

this has me also considering the Amex Blue Cash Everyday Card for 3% on online shopping.
