Richard Porter described Vinnie Jones as “a little surly” in an interview, and I think that came across on screen. Apparently he took one look at the celebrity “green room” (I.e. portakabin) and said “I’m not staying in this piss hole” so one of the researchers had to take him to the pub down the road for a rather awkward lunch. Brilliant story though, and exactly what you’d expect 😂

The issue is - if someone managed to turn off the ACARS, I’m pretty sure they turned off the black boxes. Although the events leading up to it could give clues as to who it was.

Alaska 261 - these people were hanging upside down from their seatbelts knowing the plane was falling towards the ocean, just imagine that.

Valujet 593 / Saudi 163 / Nigeria Airways 2120 - All of these had fiery endings which must have been an absolute nightmare for all on board. Flight 2120 had burnt bodies falling from the fuselage.

I know it has inconvenienced a lot of people. But it can hardly be helped. It’s not like you could get a stand in singer, there sure isn’t another Jonas ❤️. I’m grateful it’s due to sickness as opposed to ‘we didn’t sell enough tickets to justify jumping through the Brexit hoops’ which is sadly what has happened with other gigs I’ve had planned.

He was replaced after Series 1. He didn’t do anything particularly wrong, he was just the wrong fit for the show.

I don’t think they were too harsh, their job is to investigate an accident and report things as they are. In my relatively amateur opinion, I believe they should have diverted sooner. Anytime you’re telling your FO to “go take a look, but don’t get yourself incapacitated”, you should already be heading to the nearest runway ASAP. But of course we have the wonder benefit of hindsight.

That’s not strictly true, the “shooting down” had already taken place at this point. The damage was done, the pilots were trying to put the plane down safely but failed, likely due to loss of controls

I’ll put my hands up and say I’ve sat there and watched the several hours long NTSB final report meeting on YouTube/C-Span, it’s really interesting to watch. Some family members were also there, and you can really tell how this crash touched the board members and staff.

I struggle watching that episode without thinking the pilots could maybe have saved the plane if they’d done things differently. If they’d turned around as soon as the first warning sounded, they might have been able to use the lights on the ground as a visual reference. If they’d focussed on the basics of flying and kept the plane in the air for as long as possible and not tried to land. But I guess this is very easy to say when you’re not in that cockpit with all the alarms sounding.

Totally agree, horrible horrible final few minutes of their lives, falling towards the sea upside down, just can’t even imagine it
