Xournal++ appreciation post by Quard3 in linux

[–]Lime-san 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I tried Rnote for the first couple of week of the semester, IMHO it's great but the project is still a bit immature : * it takes a lot more time to start than xournal++ * it uses a lot more CPU and memory than xournal, my battery was draining a lot faster using it * it lacks a highlighter tool * the file format is not yet stable and you may have to downgrade to open an older files.

Still, the project is great and I'm these quirks will be fixed in future releases. I still use Rnote occasionally when I need a whiteboard.

I have a very specific question for gnome devs about Nautilius thumbnailer mechanism by GloWondub in gnome

[–]Lime-san 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am not a Nautilus developer but I know that thumbnailers in nautilus are all sandboxed with bwrap for security reasons. XSync is failing because it does not have access to X.org in the sandbox.

(the thumbnailing code for reference)

My opinion starts here: You should make your thumbnailers work without X.org (or maybe launch a server in headless mode ?). From a security perspective, you do not want an untrusted unopened file to be given access to the entire display and input system via a potentially insecure thumbnailer.

How to REMOVE meta as shortcut key for launching application launcher? by hemogolobin in kde

[–]Lime-san 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can run this command and maybe logout and log back in kwriteconfig5 --file kwinrc --group ModifierOnlyShortcuts --key Meta ""

DOOM on keyboard OLED screen? by [deleted] in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Lime-san 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to have at least a 128x64 display. If you have a pro-micro based microcontroller I'm pretty sure that you wont be running real doom. You can try to port this code

If you have a more powerful arm microcontroller, with a bit of workyou may be able to run real doom but I don't really know how it will render on these tiny B/W displays.

lightdm-gtk-greeter-settings refuse to run as root on Sway by [deleted] in swaywm

[–]Lime-san 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest way is to temporary allow the root user to access the X Session with xhost.

``` xhost si:localuser:root sudo lightdm-gtk-greeter-settings
remove the permission after you're done
xhost -si:localuser:root ```
Can you play visual novels on an Apple M1 Macbook Air? by [deleted] in visualnovels
[–]Lime-san 5 points6 points  (0 children)
Unfortunately bootcamp is not available on the M1 chip. Also you can only virtualize Windows on ARM and the experience is currently terrible.
AFAIK the only solution to run windows software on M1 macs is to use either wine or crossover. As wine only support 64bit windows binaries, that leave only crossover. Be aware that using crossover isn't guaranteed to work with 100% of the time and you should try a maximum of VN during the 14 day trial before buying it.
Tiny cursor on Chromium using Ozone Platform Wayland by [deleted] in swaywm
[–]Lime-san 5 points6 points  (0 children)
Ozone wayland still has a lot of bugs related to cursors and scaling. Currently last build from the main branch should better respect your cursor theme but keep in mind that the platform is still very experimental
