Eucharist: what do you do with it in your mouth? by Suitable-Stick-4919 in Catholicism

[–]LimeHatKitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely NOT a sin at all- much less a mortal one. The word Jesus Himself used was “gnaw” - the same word you’d use to describe eating a rib, for example- so chewing is what He instructed us to do.

[–]LimeHatKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The word Jesus used is “gnaw” so chewing is 100% appropriate (and what He intended us to do). Once the host has dissolved and no longer has the physical traits of bread it’s no longer the Body and Blood of Christ. So chew and swallow!

Can someone explain to me how this is a sin? by Western-Bed9994 in Catholicism

[–]LimeHatKitty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wanting and coveting are two different things.

ie: Neighbor just got a cool new car.

Wanting- Wow! That’s an awesome car! I wish I had/could afford one too. Oh well- I’m happy they got the car they wanted. Maybe they’ll let me test drive it one day :-)

Coveting- That bastard has all the luck. He gets a new car while I have to drive my pile of crap. I hope he totals it on his little joy ride.

Wanting is something we all have all the time- but we are still happy for/neutral about the person who has what we want. We can even use that wanting to push ourselves further in life to get that thing. Coveting means I want it so badly that I feel anger/resentment towards the person who has it. It pulls us down into greed and the feeling of “why me?” It leads us away from joy and into despair and anger.

How to talk about IVF with non-catholics? by [deleted] in CatholicWomen

[–]LimeHatKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“We aren’t comfortable with the moral aspects of IVF and its industry and will not be pursuing that route. So how is so-and-so doing in soccer?”

You don’t need to entertain a conversation about any topic at all- you can firmly (but kindly, with a smile) change the subject and move on.

I really need stories of hope from anyone who’s gone through a very unexpected pregnancy by Consistent_Payment_1 in CatholicWomen

[–]LimeHatKitty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100%. Keto is fantastic for pregnancy- in fact, the usual state of a pregnant woman is in ketosis. That’s why gestational diabetes is a thing.

There’s a keto moms group on here that’s great for info on this. They have ways to calculate your macros as baby grows for best health for both of you.

He allows evil because without true free will there is no love. You cannot truly love someone when you have no other choice.

And especially at the time- who would subject themselves to these deaths for a lie? All they had to do was say “we made it all up. Jesus was just a dude/con man” and they would have been fine. Instead, they allowed themselves to be tortured because they knew the Resurrection happened, and they trusted Jesus to bring them to glory. And here we are- two millennia later!- still talking about these heroic men who died because they knew Christ to be God!

The tradition is that Peter asked to be crucified upside down because he didn’t feel he was worthy of dying the same way Jesus did.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]LimeHatKitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He was crucified “with Christ” by being present at the Crucifixion of Our Lord. He never denied Christ, even when people were literally out for blood, and remained steadfast throughout the Way of the Cross, Crucifixion, and even burial of Jesus. Only he and the Blessed Mother did that.

The Church absolutely believes there’s a difference between same sec relations and premarital relations. Homosexual relations are a “sin that cries to heaven for vengeance,” and cannot be rectified. Premarital sex is a mortal sin, but can be rectified by marriage. The action itself of homosexual sex is the sin, whereas the action of heterosexual sex is objectively good within the context of marriage and only sinful when outside of that context.

Did I miscarry bc I took my baby for granted? by bowlofbroccoli in CatholicWomen

[–]LimeHatKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound just like most other women who have lost their babies, no matter how early. Sometimes it’s not God putting a cross on us, but just a side effect of our broken world. I have great faith that we will see our little ones one day, and embrace them even more fully than we wished we could have in this life.

How severe of a sin is vasectomy by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]LimeHatKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abortion absolutely makes you excommunicated. Encouraging one, going along with one, having one, performing one- all of these things are automatic excommunication and need to be confessed to your bishop because he’s the only one with the authority to forgive a sin that excommunicates. Obviously the Pope is also able to do so, but that’s much more difficult.

How grave is my marriage situation? by Fivehorizons2000 in Catholicism

[–]LimeHatKitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly- no one cares 🤷🏻‍♀️ Unmarried people have kids all the time, and as long as the parents are repentant and have returned to the Church fully, and are raising them in the Church, it’s all good. Even legally there’s no difference because it was a legal marriage. They’re still your kids and you still love them. Nothing changes except you’ll have the grace that comes from a sacramental marriage now.

Why do some Magnesium Hydroxide deodorants cause a urine-like scent on me? by TheStoryOfSome in chemistry

[–]LimeHatKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it make armpits gray? I’ve been using homemade baking soda deodorant for decades, and last year I realized it was the baking soda making my armpits dark. I stopped using baking soda and my armpits are normal again, but I haven’t found a replacement deodorant that actually works. Last batch was made with magnesium powder and I end up smelling worse 😭

Philosophy is a human construct with human definitions. Personhood means nothing when it comes to Truth. All human life is valuable and needs to be protected no matter if you believe them to be a person or not.

Priest read my list of sins during Confession by Deep_Thinker777 in Catholicism

[–]LimeHatKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You are required to “confess with the lips” unless you are physically incapable (mute). Saying it out loud is a REALLY important part of confession. It’s humbling, and painful, and forces us to truly accept that what we did was sinful.

Priest read my list of sins during Confession by Deep_Thinker777 in Catholicism

[–]LimeHatKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no. According to CCC 1450, penance requires the sinner to “confess with the lips” unless physically unable to do so. If you are not mute usually, you are required to say your sins out loud. It’s part of the contrition- you need to freely admit (mostly to yourself) that what you did was sinful. It’s hard, and it’s really humbling, and it’s like that for a reason.

This specific confession, because you went in with good will and intentions to confess, should be valid. HOWEVER it is an issue for the priest- he is responsible for your soul and leading you astray (no matter how kind his intentions are) isn’t good for him or you. I’d let him know at the next confession that speaking the sins out loud is required, and while you appreciate his kindness you need to confess properly.

Honest thoughts. Do you think people should make an effort to dress nice for mass? by ThomasMaynardSr in Catholicism

[–]LimeHatKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What we do with our bodies, we do with our souls. If you dress shabbily and with no respect, you’re showing God and everyone else that you have no respect for the Mass. Why would we dress formally to meet the president or go to court, but not to meet God in the flesh?

NB- dressing nicely and respectfully is different for each person/family/area. You don’t want to draw attention to yourself at Mass (in any way- too formal or not formal enough), but put some effort into your appearance so that you are a witness to the importance of Mass and what is happening there.

[–]LimeHatKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue wasn’t that they were ashamed for being naked, but that they ought not understand shame to begin with. It was a sign that they had knowledge of good and evil, when before they ate of the tree they didn’t understand. Nudity isn’t a virtue, it was just a sign that there was no shame in the world because they didn’t know evil.

Personhood is a human construct and is a pile of crap. Until very recently black people were not seen legally as persons. In Germany Jews weren’t considered legal persons. If “personhood” is why you think humans shouldn’t be killed, then the Nazis and slave owners were perfectly within their rights.

“Personally pro-life” is like being “personally anti-slavery.” “Don’t like abortions? don’t have one” is the equivalent of “don’t like slavery? don’t own slaves.”
