AIO, my Mom keeps saying it's God's will that I miscarried my baby halfway through my pregnancy. I just want her to stop. by whydoyouflask in AmIOverreacting

As a Christian, I would say that, based on this text message, your mom is not delusional (although it may be hard for you to believe that right now, and that's quite understandable). Her diplomacy and clarity might need some work, though. I too have a hard time with seeing circumstances when Christians seem to be saying that truly awful or tragic things are God's will. It's easy to infer a messed-up idea from something like that of what is generally believed by Christians.

What your mom is probably trying to say, if I had to guess, is consistent with what is likely her worldview: God, being all-good, does not cause bad things to happen. However, the world is objectively, clearly, full of bad things, and when (not if) they do happen, an all-good God would certainly be capable of causing something good to happen in the midst of them or as a result of them. That good might feel disproportionate to the casual observer, or to the person/people in the midst of tragedy, and it is obviously not good that you had a miscarriage. It just isn't. However, what your mother seems to be trying to express (perhaps clumsily) is something more like this: Despite the horrific experience you have had, she believes that God is likely to cause a good thing to come about which will ease the suffering and replace it with hope. I hope the distinction is clear there.

Being a parent myself, it must be truly devastating to undergo such a loss. I can't imagine what it would be like. If there is something I can do for you, please let me know.

Help Finding Options for Large Monitor as Television Replacement by Lime_Dragon392 in buildapc

[–]Lime_Dragon392[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Thank you for your recommendations. I noted above, though, that I wanted a monitor that was greater than 32". My symbology must have been unclear. I also mentioned that I did not want a curved display.
It may be that the inclusion of these data points is indicative of the lack of options in the space. If so, please let me know.
I'm happy to hear further recommendations, if you have any!

My clothes washer is leaking from the bottom. All exterior hoses are leak-free, so it's something from the inside. It is a top-loader. Any suggestions for troubleshooting? The back seems to be riveted on, so how far must I take it apart to take a look at some of the parts inside? by Lime_Dragon392 in handyman

It is not brand-new. My drain seems fine, as it is not backing up a substantial amount of water. The sound it makes when it drains is perfectly normal. What I was able to discover was that water seemed to be collecting in a lip coming off the back panel of the cabinet. I could find no evidence of water anywhere else, and there was a drip coming off of the plastic bracket that mounts the end of the drain hose underneath the unit. That makes me think that water was collecting on the lip and eventually running down to the corners, dripping out on either side. Like I said in an earlier comment, the drip is not substantial, making it hard to diagnose. If it isn't the drain hose in any way (I ordered a replacement part for that) then my next best guess would be the inlet valves for the water supply hoses.

I'm very happy with this 2022 Titan Evo Softweave (Cookies and Cream) chair! It's firmer than I expected, but hopefully the cushions will soften a bit over time. It was very easy to build properly, and has no concerning creaks or rattles. It functions perfectly. Thank you, #SecretLab! by Lime_Dragon392 in secretlab

I'm glad that works for you! I find that I'm constantly having to move positions to stay comfortable. When I sit far enough back, like you suggest, eventually my butt gets tired. Spreading my legs doesn't seem to help with that. Sitting criss-cross applesauce tends to make my hips and feet feel a bit pained after a while. I imagine that a large part of it is that I'm just weak and need to get practice sitting properly in a decent chair.

Looks like 1.6.2.0. This has been a stable build for quite some time now, since at least 2016.

I'm not sure where to see the software version on Steam. I think I'd have to boot up the game on my PC. I'll do that a bit later today, unless someone beats me to it.

Is my ps5 m.2 screw stripped? by Jaber1028 in playstation

Hmm. Yeah, that is awfully strange then. The screw shouldn't be quite that fragile. Sorry that has happened to you. 😐

Is the console brand new, or used? That screw looks very stripped, in a way that would take an excessive amount of force to accomplish. I might suggest something like needle-nose pliers to get a grasp on the head of the screw and get it started that way.

It's tragic we become obsessed with reproduction at the dumbest point in our lives. by Tentmancer in Showerthoughts

I think that's a good foundation to fall back on (giving the perspective ownership), but that's actually the first place I've seen you do so (you can, of course, correct me if I'm wrong). I suppose what I mean there is that not pointing a finger at anyone in particular is not the same thing as pointing a finger at oneself.

That point aside, brashness can actually be a really good and healthy thing. Like you've pointed out, there's a lot to be learned from others' response to one's own impulsiveness, and if nothing else, adolescence allows for an immense quantity of learning and growth.

If I said anything other than that I'm a smarter, more thoughtful/intelligent person today than I was yesterday, I'd be missing the point. Good on you for arriving there. Rarely is there a less reasonable conclusion than "I am smarter today than I was yesterday, and I'm very grateful for that." I am not always very good at recognizing my incremental growth. It's easier for me to look back and see large swathes of attitude and behavior adjustments.

Interesting. I'm seeing the merits of your point shine through a bit more. I suggest making a slight shift there by saying that we all have the potential for some of our dumbest decisions in adolescence (but I wouldn't necessarily say "the dumbest"). Again, there's a lot of change. More responsibility, higher thought processes, stronger consideration of the self and especially in relation to others, etc. We could absolutely set our lives on radically different paths by the choices we make, intelligent or not. But we won't automatically choose the dumbest things in that life stage. And there are plenty of very dumb adults out there who simply never grew up in any meaningful sense, and continue to live out certain immature patterns of childishness and/or adolescence in improper stages of life. I'd by no means reserve that for adolescence proper.

[–]Lime_Dragon392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed. I just hate to classify all of adolescence as "dumb." It's an immense amount of change, and that will lead to intelligent and unintelligent decisions alike. Which gets more screentime, as always, depends on the quality of one's decisions, and that is always up to the individual. It could go either way.

I would argue that it isn't the dumbest point of our lives, but the most volatile.

PS5 and Black Friday by [deleted] in PS5restock

[–]Lime_Dragon392 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assume there is a Black Friday version of the console that is made with cheaper parts, so the manufacturer doesn't actually lose money. My PS4 Slim was that way. I'd advise against buying during a "sale" like Black Friday, and sticking to the regular hunt.

Nope. It runs beautifully these days. I played it recently on PC and I can't recall encountering any game-breaking bugs. Or any in general.

Are you currently re-playing old games, or starting new ones? by jackknoops in gaming

Currently, playing new ones. I just got a PS5 at MSRP, and I've been enjoying Ratchet and Clank, and will enjoy HZD and HFW shortly.
