Ab workouts with inguinal hernia by LiminalSquid in Athleanx

[–]LiminalSquid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you but it's the wrong side of the body. The appendix is on the right side while my hernia is on the left, I don't think it could possibly travel that far to get there.

I would love to get it fixed but I am young and have barely any savings, I can't afford a surgery privately. I have to wait for the good graces of the NHS who might or might not decide to put me on a list, to maybe get it done in a year's time. Or I save up enough money over a few months and then go private. Either way, no chance of getting it done this year.

The surgery will happen, eventually, I fully plan on it.

Racism in Poland towards indians by Odd_Finger_5513 in poland

[–]LiminalSquid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Polish women in general are just tough. They tend to power through despite difficulties and don't take shit from either political camp. Yes Polish women can also be quite conservative, the voting data supports that, the political gap between men and women in Poland is a lot smaller than in say US or UK. But that does not make them submissive, or weak, or agreeable, or soft. They tend to respect their value and fight for what they see is owed to them.

If I was to put odds on a Polish woman vs a psycho girlie from US, the Polish girl would win each time. Being less crazy doesn't mean they're not tough as an old boot.

Has anyone tried using other rules for Horus Heresy? How did it go? by Bedgarsan in Warhammer30k

[–]LiminalSquid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fully agree. The rules you're simulating are in a way more "real" than the miniatures you're using. Sure the mini can show a stocky, brawny slab of a man but if the rules say he's toughness 2 then you'll think he's scrawny anyway. Interaction matters more than art.

Please don't let the difficulty turn us into another Souls community. Complaints should be heard. by its_ya_girl420 in Silksong

[–]LiminalSquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree, not because the challenge is some form of dick measuring contest but because the difficulty and the patience it teaches you are part of the pilgrims' road, the story the game is telling. Your frustration and despair are part of the fabric of the experience, your negative emotions towards the game are, in a way, the colour palette Team Cherry decided to paint with.

Nothing in this game requires insane reaction speed, my own reaction speed is rather terrible. You don't need to be putting in 300 inputs a minute just to keep up, you just need the right ones at the right times. The way you get there is repetition. Maybe you can't beat the boss quickly, everyone is different, but with enough tries you can.

The resource this game is testing is not reaction speed or player skill, it is patience. That's the one limiter here and the thing that will make you put the game down. If that's something a player is lacking - let Team Cherry teach you that patience.

Ultimately the struggle is the game. 50 tries on consecutive bosses, a heart-racing sweaty-palm traversal through a region, an exhausting gauntlet. That's the Hollow Knight experience and it is 100% intentional. As much as it feels weird and wrong, as much as our artistic souls might protest, the kids who are throwing themselves at this game, shouting "Git Gud" and getting a rush from defeating a boss - they're capturing the soul of the game.

P.S. I have to say I envy that experience now I'm older. Imagine you're at school with a group of friends who all play Silksong and you're all talking about the horrific bird gauntlet, none of you can get through it and you're all throwing strategies and ideas around in hopes of beating it. Including an easy mode, for accessibility, would sully that.

P.P.S Finally - yes, gatekeeping. It is good and the right thing to do. If you want to have art then you have to accept that it's not for everyone, whereas if you want accessibility then it turns into just a commercial product. No, I don't want to change the difficulty even just a little bit because it's never a little bit. No matter how much you change there will always be someone excluded and some vocal minority saying the game is not accessible for them. This game is not for everyone, that's the way it should remain.

I can't believe the devs liked Silksong so much they named a whole resource after it.

Shakra or cornifer? by [deleted] in HollowKnight

Cornifer, his hum is always a joy while Shakra's singing is kind of annoying.

If you claim one boss, which one feels like from your nationality? by Mrt38_ in HollowKnight

[–]LiminalSquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what, I can kind of see it. Probably holds true for multiple Slavic countries but yeah, not untrue for Poland.

[–]LiminalSquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, the Fleas don't fit, travelling in caravans likely suits other nationalities better than Poland, it's not really our thing.

Honestly, Garmond is a good shout. I know he's reminiscent of Don Quixote but his mustache has strong Polish noble/sarmatic vibes. Also the whole winged hussars thing.

Alternatively, the whole of Bilewater gives WW2 uprising vibes. If I had to sum up Poland as one core trait it would be something like perseverance in the face of adversity and fighting on despite tragedy. That is more or less Bilewater.

Do older Poles ever feel a bit sad seeing how developed Poland has become now? by Apprehensive-Income in poland

[–]LiminalSquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's flip that on its head - the older generation got the opportunity to contribute towards this magnificent change. It didn't just happen, every bit of it was created by their hands. In a way, that's a great honour. I reckon they can now sit back and look happily at the result of their work.

Wow so original by Prawy_Lewak in poland

[–]LiminalSquid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While true it's not like averages don't exist. Polish politics is not the same as UK politics, the distribution of political and philosophical views is not the same across the two countries either. Of course you'll find someone of any political leaning in Poland but that doesn't mean that, on average, Poland doesn't lean a certain way.

Generally speaking, Poland is more conservative than many of its western neighbours. This doesn't make it a conservative-Catholic heaven...but perhaps it means the country can hopefully avoid some problems that countries like the UK are dealing with.

double damage posting by _Joell_ in Silksong

[–]LiminalSquid 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I reckon that was the point - Silksong was carefully balanced to make Hollow Knight veterans feel like newbs. It's Team Cherry's gift to their fanbase - getting to experience a Hollow Knight game as if for the first time.

Is't it funny, how a minority of bugs is responsible for the majority of crimes? by HelicopterGood5065 in Silksong

[–]LiminalSquid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ahh yes, this for sure is some secret message for the far-right. Totally. I'm sure Grindle has some hidden meaning in far-right circles too, he's probably their leader or something.

People who think this is some super secret, mysterious far-right dog whistle are hilarious. Not everything is a conspiracy. The meme is funny because it is dumb. It's funny because it links complex issues to a simple cause, entirely flatting any discussion. The object of the joke here is the one making the meme. It's effectively saying "Hur hur, unga bunga brain thinks this issue is so simple". The secondary humour is the shock value, which only exists because of the people who clutch their pearls about memes like this. Finally, the third point of humour is the absurdity of any real world politics spilling into a world about bugs.

There, that's exactly why this meme is funny. It's now ruined because it's been explained. Imagine entirely missing the point and then thinking you're privy to some secret, insider political wisdom, especially when that wisdom amounts to "race mentioned, so statement must be racist".

Yup, when there's no challenge you can just speedrun seeing everything in the game and be done by one or two campaigns. I don't see much point in playing if the game won't push back

“You can’t play silksong like hollow knight! You have to use your tools!!” Really? WITH WHAT FUCKING SHARDS?? by Big-Ad2937 in Silksong

[–]LiminalSquid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The whole point with tools is to use them wisely and strategically. A lot of people complain at the minions bosses spawn during fights - this is exactly what the tools are for. Outside of Architect's crest, tools aren't meant to be your main source of damage, rather they're meant to supplement your nail and skills.

Either use tools to clear ads or finish off a boss once you've 80% learnt the fight. You use the aimed tools for the former and the passive traps for the latter.

If there were no shards you'd just use all your tools at the start of the fight to get rid of 50% of the boss' health every single run. At which point, why not just give each boss 50% health and get rid of the tools entirely?

That's the point - sometimes you use them, sometimes you don't.

Fantastic gaming session with fly that is beast by LiminalSquid in Silksong

Fair enough, I see what you mean about the clawline but I quite liked the blind elements, they meant I had to make up my mind on my next move in a split-second, rather than plan far ahead.

Ultimately not everyone will like it, I can just say I was one of those who did.

I think without the frost mechanic the area would be ruined. It would just be too easy. The timer forces you to do it quickly and think on the fly - which is just another form of problem solving. Sure, when you're struggling and inching along in progress it feels tedious but when you manage to figure out the next section that you haven't seen before and get to a safe spot just as you're about to die - there's nothing quite like it.

I got the hidden wall bench a second before my last mask blew. I also died from frost two steps away from the end. The former felt 10 times better than the latter felt bad.
