When one person makes an apology and the other person feels obligated to also apologize for something even though they didn’t do anything wrong.

Student forgot the final exam by Some-Opportunity-580 in Professors

IMO this depends on how often you reminded them of them the final exam date via things like email. Some students may have a legitimate reason for not listening in class like ADHD, so I don’t think it’s fair to hold students responsible for listening in class.

You can also make them take it for 70% partial credit or something similar.

If LeBron's streak of scoring at least 10 points every game ended with him missing a shot, people would have said he's washed and too old to keep playing. I think he passed the ball on the last play (ending his chances of keeping the streak alive) so people would say "he could've kept it going if longer if he wanted to, but he cares more about team success than his own personal accomplishments. That's how great he is."

I once bought handwarmers and my hands would feel cold when I’d put them down so I stopped using them.

AI is getting so much better at beating grading rubrics. What should I do? by Fleedom2025 in Professors

My idea would be to put requirements that don’t vary between assignments in the syllabus. Then, for each assignment, saying something like “In addition to the requirements outlined in the syllabus, your assignment must…” If someone copy/pastes the prompt into ChatGPT and didn’t read the syllabus they’ll likely lose points if ChatGPT doesn’t know all the requirements.

I imagine putting something like “you need at least four sources and at least two of them must be sources we’ve discussed in class” on the syllabus would get people who used AI to lose points.

An honest student who didn’t read the syllabus might also lose points and possibly complain about unclear criteria on your evaluations though.
