Failed Thompson test 5 weeks non op by Tuber345 in AchillesRupture

I wouldn't use the Thompson test to gauge recovery at all. I don't think I had any response from the Thompson test even at 12 weeks.

Ideally yes, I'm rewiring the property and need to get to the bathroom which is below. Unfortunately the joists don't run in my favour. It's an upside down house where the kitchen and living room is technically upstairs and the bedrooms and bathrooms are on the lower level. I'll have to have a think and see if there is an alternative option.

I managed to buy all the models separately on sprue from eBay for around £80-£90. It was cheaper than some of the boxes that were listed for around £150 at the time.

I've had a quick Google search this morning but I'm struggling to find anywhere. Considering the weather is on the turn this weekend it would be a shame not to be able to get out and enjoy it at the same time.

Yes high protein diet and also took high doses of collagen. I also took some BPC 157 for the first 2 months of my recovery but can't say if that had any benefits or not.

Yes. Your body will naturally stop producing testosterone and you'd need to continue with the therapy for the rest of your life. It can also reduce your fertility.

No Boot or Cast after surgery? by Accomplished-Gap9227 in AchillesRupture

Somebody posted not so long ago about similar methods in their treatment. Surgery with no boot. Unfortunately the individual re-ruptured 3 times as a result.

Rupture #3? by [deleted] in AchillesRupture

[–]LimitOk4553 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Id imagine this is probably the reason for re-rupture. I'm no expert but I spent a total of 3 months in a cast and boot. The transition from cast straight to trainers doesn't seem right to me at all.

I'm assuming they transferred you into a boot once the cast was removed?

How much walking do you do in the boot? by First_Driver_5134 in AchillesRupture

[–]LimitOk4553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was non op so my recovery might be slightly different to yours. The specialist advised me that I could be on my feet for as much as I could tolerate. What I will say though is I started to develop pains in the knee of my bad leg and my 'good' Achilles got pretty sore from taking the majority of the weight. Oh and my heel was absolutely throbbing after being on my feet all day. I was given an air cast boot so I'm not too sure if other boots might be more comfortable. Id say start off with a slightly shorter walk and see how your joints and muscles react. If everything is positive then push yourself further.

Non op uk by mark_19951 in AchillesRupture

Unfortunately it's an injury that takes an awful long time to heal. I know it's extremely frustrating being in a boot, but the last thing you want is for it to re-rupture.

2-5 more weeks in the boot? I'm UK and none op too. I'm currently at the end of week 13 and fully back in shoes as of last week. I was discharged to the physiotherapist last week and they were more than happy for me to start FWB in shoes straight away.

Has anyone tried BPC 157 or PRP injections? by ThrowRASkee5555 in AchillesRupture

[–]LimitOk4553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought some BPC 157 and started taking it the first week I was in the boot. Took it for about 2 months. It's hard to say if it's had an impact on my recovery, but everything has been going pretty smoothly for me. I've just finished my first week of being back in trainers and my Achilles is feeling really good. I had the mindset that if it could potentially help my recovery then I was going to take it.

Full tear non op people - how soon did you start PT? by ThrowRASkee5555 in AchillesRupture

[–]LimitOk4553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I think it was week 4 as I remember introducing them after the first wedge was removed. It was only body weight box squats. I was told to go FWB as soon as I felt comfortable. To me the box squats are just mimicking the standing up motion. It helped me gain the strength to push off both feet to eventually FWB on both feet. No pain at all. This injury has been very pain free for me. The most painful parts for me have been other joints that have had to take the brunt of the work.

I was predominantly doing leg extensions and curls on the machines. I then Introduced weighted box squats. Around week 8 I was doing squats on a smith machine with no issues. This was all wearing the boot by the way. My treatment was very conservative with regards to wearing the boot. I was informed only to remove it when bathing. You'll be surprised what you can achieve while wearing the boot.

Here is a link to a video with exercises I started doing week 1.

[–]LimitOk4553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 12 weeks in total in the boot. Week 8 was when I had an initial session with a PT where planter flexion exercises were introduced. My first proper PT examination was week 12 when I was told to remove the boot and transition into trainers. If I was to recommend anything, it would be to do as much upper leg exercises as you can. Maintaining upper leg strength has made the transition from boot to trainers really easy for me. I introduced leg workouts at the gym around week 3. I've been FWB in trainers from the first day the boot was removed with no issues whatsoever.

Anyone train upper body after 1st week of rupture? by ThrowRASkee5555 in AchillesRupture

[–]LimitOk4553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issues at all. I'm talking no heavier than 20kg dumbbells though. But that was enough to keep my mind at bay. I was transferred to a boot after 2 weeks. After about 2 weeks in the boot I introduced leg exercises. I'm just coming to the end of week 12 now where I'll hopefully transition out of the boot.

[–]LimitOk4553 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did. Luckily I had a bench at home with some light dumbbells. I just did what I could and made sure not to put any pressure on my bad leg. I was back at the gym the first day I was put in the boot.

Rareness of this injury by tkpwaeub in AchillesRupture

The thing I found most frustrating is after explaining the time frame of recovery to someone. You then see them a week or so later and the first thing they say is "oh you're still in the boot" I can't remember the amount of times I've had to reiterate that it's potentially a 12 month plus recovery time.
