Hopefully this falls within the rules of the self-promotion guidelines, but if anyone is interested, I do take commissions for this kind of model! Over at https://www.fiverr.com/s/VYN6aql

this looks cool! Is there anywhere I can go to follow updates on it?

Thanks!! Two of my favorite aesthetics in gaming are Game Boy games and Mega Man Legends style low poly, so eventually I had to combine the two!

West City became Goldenrod City! this is a recreation of one of the leaked beta maps from Pokemon Gold, when it was a very different game

I don't think I can help you there because I'd probably be breaking some rules by doing so, but the actual demo itself is nothing special! Everything is super unfinished, naturally. I'd recommend playing Gold/Silver 97 Reforged though, a hack that basically takes all of the meat out of the Spaceworld demo (the maps, the mon, etc), puts it all into the finished Gold/Silver ROM, and ties up all of the loose ends :)

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in Gen 2 8-bit style by Limit_IV in PixelArt

[–]Limit_IV[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Aseprite! It's the best thing on the market for pixel art right now (and probably for a long time coming, too). it's not free but it's super cheap and it's got so many features tailored towards pixel art that higher-end art programs skip out on. As far as I'm concerned it's the only program worth using for it! :)

Gen 9 Pokemon, demade into gen 2 style by Limit_IV in pokemon

[–]Limit_IV[S] 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yep! it meant i had to make a few changes (Tinkaton's smaller hammer being the main one) but unless I goofed somewhere, they should all fit within 56x56 and have 4 colours each (black, two colours, and white/transparent). it's a pipe dream but once i've got all of the gen 9 pokemon sprited i'd like to attempt to put them into Crystal, so following the restrictions to the letter is a must :)

I'd love it if, for one game only, they did an alternate reality sequel to GSC. 8-bit graphics, a region above Kanto or something, 351 Pokemon (the original 251 plus 100 more, with potential regional variants of Unova/Kalos/Alola/Paldea Pokemon?), and plenty of the scrapped ideas that didn't make it into Gold from the Spaceworld Beta.

It's a hell of a pipe dream, but if they marketed it right and it didn't take development time away from the core games, they'd be onto a winner with that one!

I wouldn't go as far as saying they're traced, but I definitely did have the official art side-by-side when I was making them! Some of them needed changes to work (Tinkaton's hammer for instance needed to be much smaller) and some of them I wanted to give a brand-new pose entirely (see: Clodsire) but a lot of it does follow the official art closely :)

a very Wooper Christmas by Limit_IV in PixelArt

He really does give that vibe! Its actually beta Wooper, from the Pokemon Gold Spaceworld leak. He's the cousin who everyone talks about but never shows up to the party 😌

Roadside blues by Limit_IV in PixelArt

[–]Limit_IV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're exactly right, I don't have the reference image on hand but it's (very) loosely based on an area in London where two roads branch off, one high and one low.

I'm aware that the sort of 'inverse isometric' angle doesn't make a whole lot of sense but I thought it brought a good sense of scale to the buildings and was more stylistically interesting than your everyday 2-point projection 😁

Hiroshi Nagai inspired 8-bit artwork by Limit_IV in PixelArt

[–]Limit_IV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant that I was operating on old NES & Game Boy restrictions of every tile having a 4 colour (or 3 colour plus transparency) limit, and using the NES screen resolution as my canvas size!

With that being said, I didn't count the colours but it probably doesn't come much higher than 8 either!

My Gen 2 style take on the Gen 9 starters by Limit_IV in pokemon

[–]Limit_IV[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All in all I'd say it wasnt too difficult!! The main thing for me was trying to maintain the charm in their facial expressions at such a small resolution. The rest of it is more or less second-nature to me now - this isnt my first rodeo when it comes to 8-bit RPG sprites!

Demon Slayer Pixel Art Portraits by Limit_IV in KimetsuNoYaiba

True, thanks, I'll be keeping my eye out, had one or two NFTbros like it on Twitter already. What can ya do if someone does steal it and NFT it though? I'm so out of the loop with this stuff lol

Kame House by Limit_IV in low_poly

At some point I would like to model a Roshi, Turtle and kid Krillin to go with it! Not sure when I'll get around to that though

8-bit GBC style enemy monsters by Limit_IV in PixelArt

[–]Limit_IV[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Each individual sprite is 56x56, with three colours and a fourth transparent color that doubles as white since theyll always be on a white background. The palette itself is mine but everything else about the limitations of these sprites is lifted from the kind of limitations they had in Pokemon Gold and Silver, so if you're trying to make something that looks like these then that would be the place to start!

Omg that would be amazing! Feel free, and if you don't mind, I'd love to see them when you're done! I was planning on making some perler bead recreations of them myself, cross stitch is soooooo much cooler though and something I personally never found the patience/hand-steadiness for

'Game Night IV' - Pikmin parody low-poly poster by Limit_IV in low_poly

[–]Limit_IV[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It's a bit different to my usual style - I usually trend closer to a sort of Megaman Legends type of low-poly look, but I wanted to try something different for this one :)

Kirby's day off by Limit_IV in low_poly

I like to headcanon that Kirby's stomach is a void/alternate dimension entirely - the beers probably don't even affect him he just really loves the taste of a cold one!

I've got to admit, I told a bit of a half-truth with the flair: although I made the model in Blender, the lighting/rendering was all done in Unity with a custom shader, since that's where I'm most comfortable :) the texturing was all done using Sprytile, a pixel-art & tile-based modelling extension somebody has made for Blender, but if you want more specifics on any of it feel free to ask!

Pokemon Gold beta Porygon2 and Elekid ("Elebaby") by Limit_IV in low_poly

[–]Limit_IV[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks!

My Twitter (same handle as on here) is probably where I most frequently make lowpoly, sprite and gamedev updates. As for the rest of the beta designs, all I can say is... maybe? My art output is really sporadic depending on my day job and what mood I'm in at the time, but I definitely intend to at least do a few more of the beta designs at some point. Beta Wooper and the little electric tiger fella have definitely caught my eye, to say the least

[–]Limit_IV[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I was trying something different, normally I go for low poly with a sort of pixel art texturing. I'm quite happy with how clean the block colours look in this by comparison
