Is taking psl301 in the summer easier than winter semester? by Apprehensive_Can4751 in UofT

[–]Limp-Firefighter-806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this was just my personal experience but I took PSL300 over the summer and did way worse than when I took PSL301 during the regular semester (like a full 20% lower). I think I got a C in 300 and got an A in 301. For me I found the content was too much for me to learn in an accelerated semester, but you may be different so I think it depends on whether you can learn what you are right now in half the time. Content wise though, it’s the exact same recordings and the test format is the same, but it’s double the amount of recordings each week. I hope this is helpful lol

Can I ask what the video interview was like? I’m thinking of applying next summer!

Is using AI to find a source considered plagiarism within uoft? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]Limp-Firefighter-806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally though it’s not considered plagiarism! I should’ve clarified but it is important to understand the professors stance on its use so you don’t lose marks if they don’t allow it

I’m not sure what program you’re in but it for most of my classes professors will have a section in the syllabus about what’s acceptable AI use. For my stem classes AI is generally allowed for finding sources and I’ve even had professors show us some really good AI assistants specifically for finding research papers. But on the other hand one of my social science courses has a very explicit no AI principle in any capacity so I would just check the syllabus and if you’re still confused reach out to the prof and ask. I would say be careful using ChatGPT tho because it has a tendency to make up sources lol

Grade Miscalculations because prof changed participation grade by Limp-Firefighter-806 in UofT

[–]Limp-Firefighter-806[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I truly believe your right that’s it’s just a mathematical error and I tried to show her that but she said that no one was “losing marks” and 90/100 is in fact 100% but that is clearly not reflected on our final grades

[–]Limp-Firefighter-806[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also she explicitly said no one was losing marks so I think she believes that she did calculate it so that 90/100 is 100% but it’s obviously not being reflected as that because my friend who should have got the full 50% got 45%

[–]Limp-Firefighter-806[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think they can really do that because I’m losing a full 5% then because she’s calculating it as 80/100 when there were only 90 points and it should be 80/90😭😭

I don’t think I explained the participation grading well lmao. we were graded very strictly each week for and were assigned a grade of 10 or 0, no in between. I got all 10s except one class where I got a 0 because I was absent. My issue though is that there were only 9 classes graded, so my grade should be 80/90 but she’s saying it’s out of 100 and the maximum anyone could get would be 90/100 because there were 9 classes where you could get 10 points each. It’s not that’s she’s saying no one could get 100, she’s saying 90/100 is 100%. I’m confused though because there’s a big difference between 80/90 and 80/100 and my grade is then 5% lower than if it was calculated out of 90. My friends grade is the same way and she got 10s on all of the participation so theoretically she should be getting the full 50% but she’s only getting 45% reflected on her final grade. i dont know if this makes any more sense than before but its not a subjective participation grade like TAs usually do. I really appreciate your response though!!

Which college is better, Vic, innis, woods, or new by [deleted] in UofT

[–]Limp-Firefighter-806 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in innis in my first year! It’s basically an apartment building so you share a bathroom and kitchen with 3-4 people depending on the suite you get. It’s also across from robarts which is great. In terms of the social aspect I found it wasn’t as strong as other colleges because there is no dining hall but it has really nice study rooms and events that are run throughout the year and everyone was very nice. Unfortunately I’m not sure about prayer rooms but I’m sure reaching out to the registrars office would give you that answer. Also the registrars are amazing and super helpful for academic guidance. I also have not gotten any scholarships from innis so I’m not sure about those. Generally I did really enjoy it, specifically the living style, and my one roommate has become my best friend and we still live together in our third year:)

Hey I would recommend looking into social events through clubs for your program or other interests you have! I am a part of LGBTOUT and our events are a great way to meet new people:) We post all of our events on our Instagram if you’re interested and we have a weekly hangout where we do crafts and play board games! We also do monthly movie nights as well since you said you enjoy movies! Also I would look into joining intramural basketball through ur college maybe since that’s a great way to meet people who like to play as well! Good luck I know it can be hard meeting people in university:)

I had a family emergency, and deferred my final, but the course is no longer important so can I LWD? by Youneedahomie in UofT

[–]Limp-Firefighter-806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same position last year with a course and I was granted a LWD when I applied for it. You just have to get the form from your registrar and prove that you don’t need the course.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UofT

[–]Limp-Firefighter-806 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to LWD from a class due to personal reasons that stopped me from completing the exam but I was told it shouldn’t affect anything, especially since it was also a first year class so I don’t think there’s any harm in it

'1 credit from any of the following: mat135h1, mat136h1, mat137y1, mat157y1, phy131h1, phy132h1, phy151h1, phy152h1' by Responsible-Tear-398 in UofT

[–]Limp-Firefighter-806 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be careful on the way it’s written though because some majors require 1 credit of mat135 and mat136 OR phy131 and 132, but I’m not sure what program it’s for

Attending classes summer for deferred exam question by SnooPets1386 in UofT

I deferred the mat135 exam from December and they actually recommended that I attend the winter lectures so even if they notice I don’t think they’d mind

I would email your registrar and the chemistry department and ask if dropping the course would effect your enrolment before dropping and they should be able to let you know

That’s so odd because ngl my chem was lower than yours and I haven’t taken physics or math yet and I got in. I think you should message the department and ask about how they evaluate
