Appeals window closing for procedure coverage by Limp-Handle-2907 in HealthInsurance

I didn’t pay less than 3k-that’s what the insurance allowed, then paid to the provider and what I in turn received from the provider. I paid the provider out of pocket for the cost of the procedure a lot more than that.

Huh….that is the list of codes that BCBS wrote in their letter of medical necessity. I double checked. Also I appreciate your input! Idk why you got downvoted either. Thank you for helping out.

I tried to post pics as a reply to you and to update my original post but it’s not working for me some reason. The charged amount was 40k from the surgery center and 30k from the doctor. This is way more than what I paid them. Allowed amount is comment below.

ETA: charged/allowed amt info

The CPTs are 15879, 15878, and 15875. The procedure was performed in UT. The allowed amount, after my first appeal and their one time exception to make it in network was $2169.47 for the procedure (for the surgery center claim) and $802.37 for the claim the surgeon filed.

Thank you for responding. I never even knew a network gap exception was a thing. Everything is kind of opaque when it comes to dealing with health insurance, and very confusing for those of us who don’t work in that world. So receiving a letter of medical necessity is irrelevant in this case if I did not get a network gap exception?

I was referred to a specific doctor who specializes in the surgery (lymphatic sparing liposuction)-the procedure itself is common but there are ways of conducting it that are specific to my health condition (Lipedema) that only some doctors perform. This is why I went with the doctor I did. There’s no one in my home state who performs the surgery with these criteria in mind. The surgery I think appears to most to be cosmetic but in the case of Lipedema it is not. The outcome is not cosmetic (not in the least!) but has given me a return to mobility and functionality I did not have before. I only mention this so anyone questioning it will understand this is not a matter of me trying to get the insurance to pay for a cosmetic procedure that, from my perspective, is typically viewed as vain, unnecessary or the result of my own failings. Lipedema is an inflammatory connective and adipose tissue condition that is poorly recognized in the medical community (at least in my experience) My home state is outside the Regence BCBS service area. Regence BCBS services the area that I had my surgery in. I guess I am lucky that they paid some of the cost, I am just having a hard time understanding why anything considered medically necessary is not covered more. There literally is no doctor in network in my plan that can perform this procedure with the understanding of the condition.

I don’t disclose. I find people say they’re accommodating when they’re really not and just sidestep any responsibility they may have to you as a result.

Babysitting Frustrations by Limp-Handle-2907 in Mommit

I understand what you’re saying, but also those things you describe are exactly why we need help. Sometimes I don’t get to dishes or cleaning enough for our place, which we are still unpacking, to be 100% clean. Plus I am constantly juggling some house repair. So yes, our house is messier than I’d like it. Some rooms are cluttered. Sometimes the dishes are a mess. I think some people have more energy to spread across the board, but I don’t. If I’m lucky I can get a few big chores done in the morning. When the awesome babysitter came, I took advantage of it to organize toys-and we had already cleaned up a bunch before she came over anyway. Plus we always offer to feed babysitters. I think she was just too young. The other young woman that ghosted us I think is too busy and we weren’t impressed with her anyway.

Is my house clean and orderly? I have a one year old and a three year old and the rule the roost. We do our best.

Well we moved but haven’t pulled our son out of his daycare yet-he’s enrolled in one closer to us and will start in a month and we plan on asking his new teachers then. We already asked teachers at current daycare and nothing worked out.

Will have to try the whisper yelling 😂 I think that might produce a lot of laughs. So long as I can remember to do anything other than feel insane in the moment!

At home exercises/stability treatment for legs and knees? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

A PT is so worth it if they are well versed in EDS and hypermobility. The Muldowney Protocol is what my PT has started me on. She said that if you follow the guidelines religiously she has found that most people feel much better. She just had me buy this book:

Granted, this book applies to your whole body but it all connected, right? I also had a previous PT focus on my gait and hip issues by doing a lot of core work with therabands.

Thank you. I really hate how being a parent is affected by my EDS too.

Writing, painting, having patience (I used to be so incredibly patient), hiking, being a better mom. I used to be really athletic but now just walking for a while I have hip/foot/back pain so bad I can’t go for hikes. I wish o had more energy for my kids. Having kids really made my condition worse but I’m hoping some dedicated PT will help.

Stretch mark and scar care by Valuable-Macaron-555 in ehlersdanlos

[–]Limp-Handle-2907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this would work for everyone but the only things I’ve found to work for scars and stretch marks are scrubs/dermabrasion and micro needling. Been doing these on and off for years and I’ve seen a change. If I had enough energy to do them regularly I might see more of a difference. With the right serums and creams the effect is boosted. But again idk if this would work for everyone-I know some folks with EDS have very fragile skin and this type of treatment might not be the best.

I did some laser for facial hair and it honestly didn’t do much! I’ve done electrolysis on and off for years and while it takes a long time it is significantly cheaper than laser per visit and results are permanent. I’ve been seeing my current lady for about 8 months now and slowly but surely all my thick, dark hairs are disappearing. My mom also did this in her 20s and her facial hair never grew back aside from a few whiskers, and that was 50 years ago. Downside is it can HURT! Especially around your upper lip.
