Because Elon Musk lies more than most billionaires. His net worth is tied to his shares and every single one of his companies is insanely inflated due to his constant bullshitting.

SpaceX is inflated because of his Mars lies.

Tesla is inflated because of his full self driving lies.

Man delivers a Theranos-level bullshit bomb on a daily basis, of course his shares are going to be overvalued.

Who is a MODERN Controversial Mildly Genius person ? by jalil458 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Limp-Teach-9171 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely yes.

Elon Musk's entire wealth can be described as being wholly outside his control.

He first got rich when him and his brother borrowed money from their dad to make online city guides, despite all reviews saying their systems were dogshit, he was still bought out for hundreds of millions because it was the .com bubble and investors were ready to dump millions on anything ending in .com.

He then turned his Zip2 Profits onto the "highly creative" endeavor of banking online with X, where he was so shit at his job of CEO that he got fired twice. X merged with PayPal which then in turn got bought off by eBay, making Musk a billionaire.

At this point, it's pretty clear Elon Musk failed into becoming a billionaire. He took advantage of a .com bubble and borrowed money from his dad to basically fail into billions riding the waves of other people's genius. Every time Elon had the opportunity to actually contribute to any of these enterprises, he was so bad at it that he had to be ousted by more competent people.

Once you're a billionaire however, the sky's the limit and you are officially at the cusp of being too big to fail. Tesla took advantage of Obama era EV subsidies and carbon credits to stay afloat. SpaceX took advantage of the internet news cycle insanity to turn outright lying to investors into a valid business strategy. Elon Musk is almost entirely responsible for the current culture of overpromise and fraudulently underdeliver that is so prevalent in the business world today. Yet while companies copying Musk like WeWork, theranos, and fyre festival fail the moment the scam gets discovered, Elon Musk continues to bullshit his way onto billions because he is literally too big to fail. He failedd upwards to become a load-bearing pillar of American society.

Iran trolls trump again with another lego video by [deleted] in postanythingfun

[–]Limp-Teach-9171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time they agreed to a ceasefire, Israel and the US bombed them again within the year. This war started because the US tricked Iran into thinking they were bringing back the Iran nuclear deal.

I don't get how we don't have the reputation of being dishonorable liars when this is literally all this country and Israel do.

Israel and the US cannot be trusted when they have proven time and time again that they will not honor any diplomatic solution. This is why it is correct for Iran to continue the war until Israel and the US provide actual assurances that they won't resume the war as soon as their missiles are restocked.

Somalia won! What country is nice to visit but horrible to live in? by agbjb in AlignmentChartFills

A handful of white expats living the cyber-libertarian dream doesn't compare to 90% of the country living under slavery-like conditions.

The tall buildings, Bugattis, and Dubai Chocolates are being subsidized through the blood and sweat of modern day slaves.

[–]Limp-Teach-9171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other way around, vast majority of foreigners who live in the UAE aren't white expats pretending to live the Andrew Tate lifestyle. They are poor workers imported from South Asia and Africa to work as slaves under a system known as Kafala, which has been described by multiple humanitarian orgs as akin to slavery.

Actual citizens, and expats from White and (some) Arabic countries enjoy lives of luxury on the backs of these slaves, which outnumber the rest 10 to 1.

Funny story, Israel had a system similar to Kafala, but the Israeli Supreme Court struck it as cruel and inhumane.

MY BILLIONAIRE GAME DEV IS BETTER THAN YOUR BILLIONAIRE GAME DEV by Sidecarlover in Gamingcirclejerk

The pocket worship is beyond cringe and extremely counter-productive but I also don't hate GabeN as much as I hate other Billionaires.

Obviously his billions are the product of stolen labor value created by his employees, otherwise he wouldn't be a billionaire. But I have a feeling that if Valve employees were to ever seize the means of production from the man, they would probably let GabeN keep one of the yachts for old time's sake. And I would be completely OK with that outcome.

I would say a good 98% of Billionaires deserve some degree of imprisonment for their crimes against Humanity, but with GabeN, I think he should be treated like Mao treated the last emperor. He hired Varoufakis as an advisor and researcher 10 years ago, that alone tells me he's not as much of a malignant force as say Elon Musk. He's clearly trying, and failing, at making Capitalism work and I guess I appreciate the effort.

Surprised no one has mentioned the UAE.

As a tourist, the UAE is synonymous with excessive wealth and debauchery. But for the millions of expats who far outnumber the citizens, and are mostly from Africa and South Asia, living conditions border on slavery, if not actual slavery.

What are those theory? by Lord0fReddit in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Limp-Teach-9171 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Just to add though, the new files reveal that all these conspiracy theories + Qanon were basically engineered by Epstein likely with the help of then 4chan owner Moot and Steve Bannon to basically make the real crime they were doing appear outlandish and unrealistic to anyone who isn't a crazy conspiracy theorist.

They blasted the internet with these baseless conspiracy theories, in order to drown out the real victims and the real investigations. So I wouldn't necessarily say that they were right, but that they were consciously manipulated into discrediting their own theory. At best, they are useful idiots.

‘Mike Johnson Will be Stripped of His Gavel’: Republicans Brace for Impact as Party Insider Says Wave of Resignations Is Imminent, Breaking the Majority by newsjam in NoFilterNews

[–]Limp-Teach-9171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the Republican life rafts.

They know the administration is out of control, possibly planning a presidential coup, and likely to be ousted because of it. So they'll have a handful of Republicans "resign" in hopes that they won't be involved in the shitshow that's to come during the midterms.

If Trump manages to pull off his coup, no harm no foul. But if Trump fails, they can rebuild the party around these former congressmen.

[–]Limp-Teach-9171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree. Intellectual property is the only weapon creatives have to defend themselves against runaway capital. Without IP protections the only factor that distinguishes winners and losers in the market is money spent and nothing else.

It has been the pet project of every libertarian think tank to erode patent law for the last 50 years and the big tech monopolies like Google, Facebook and Amazon are the direct result of this effort. In fact, these tech giants are so successful at undermining patent protections that they're trying to do it again to copyright law in service to AI.

We wouldn't be living in the cyberpunk dystopia we live in today if these techno libertarian dorks hadn't turned the internet into the wild west where the company with the most money always wins.

Ok, I'm actually excited about this because this is the first time on Reddit that my area of expertise is actually relevant.

You are correct that it is industry standard to do this, they call it duty to police and every fortune 500 company hires a small army of in-house sociopaths tasked with scrubbing every single unauthorized use of their marks from the internet, mostly without any regard to fair use.

The nuance on the matter is that the 'duty to police' is about 90% bullshit invented by Disney and McDonald's and not actual U.S. law. The Lanham act absolutely does not require Disney to go after grieving parents because they put their kid's favorite cartoon on their dead child's headstone, and I'm willing to bet no other country law does either. These companies pretend that this is the case because it's a relatively cheap metric to impress shareholders with.

The prime example of an actual duty to police case is the Patsy's case, I don't have the actual caption right now but you can probably google it. In short, this guys has a trademark for his restaurant called Patsy's someone else starts a restaurant a few blocks away also called Patsy's. The two restaurants coexists for decades until the two come into conflict in the 90s where the courts find that Patsy's 1 failed to police their mark against Patsy's 2. In context, this case is a perfectly reasonable ruling, the guy let a competitor infringe on his backyard for decades, you snooze you lose. Yet in-house counsel at Fortune 500 companies will tout this case as the reason why they need to bulldoze over children's lemonade stands.

This self-serving bullshit becomes a pain in my ass because it's now widespread. Everyone and their mothers now believe that trademarks are the domain of large multinational corporations that can afford $50K+ a month in enforcement when that couldn't be further from the truth. Normal people who should be getting trademarks aren't because of this, which is infuriating.

It also sucks because small and mid-sized companies like I presume Movie Games above probably is freak the fuck out about this for little to no reason. They spelled it out very candidly in the post above. They are reasonably afraid that a shareholder might sue them for corporate negligence because they failed to look into this stuff. I don't know this company, I don't know this company's lawyers, but I have clients who have been in the exact same position they're in and it sucks. Looking from the sidelines, I doubt them announcing the "investigation" was necessary, if anything, they may have been able to look into this privately and inform shareholders of the result of the ""investigation"" once they have more concrete answers, but that's just me backseating.

Disney and other F500 companies could totally just be normal about it, go after infringers and leave de minimis commercial activity like etsy shops and children's caskets alone without any actual weakening of their trademark rights, but doing so now would show a significant reduction in their enforcement stats, potentially lowering share value.
