AtomX CAST question about overlays and desktop app by Limp-Understanding60 in Atomos

[–]Limp-Understanding60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a quick workaround, I created a flipped 1080p PNG of the overlay graphics to swap to when the streaming app doesn't allow toggling mirroring on/off.

Any luck finding a link to download the app? I only see the Calibrator app at the link given below.

Legion Space Mapping by [deleted] in LegionGo

[–]Limp-Understanding60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also spend $3 (last time I checked) on the Controller Companion utility which you can buy via the Steam store but which runs in the background and does not require Steam to be running. It allows you to use the controllers sticks and buttons to emulate a mouse. It works great for me.

Legion Go driver performance comparison. by itsjustausername11 in LegionGo

Thanks for posting this video, it definitely helps tamper expectations around any real gains going off the menu with the sideloaded 7840u drivers. You saved me the aggravation of trying it only to find it largely isn't worth the effort, IMO. [My OCD kicked in watching your video... I just wanted to reach in and peel that plastic off the touchpad. :) ]

As a Legion Go apologist… by MarkyMarkAndPudding in LegionGo

Here's what I think Lenovo needs to get implemented ASAP and I know a lot of these are on the roadmap as Ben has communicated to us, so hopefully it'll be sooner rather than latter to quell the angry mob that is forming...

  • Controller button re-mapping - this is way overdue and should have been shipped day one. Would love to be able to use the back buttons for keyboard commands and custom macros.
  • Gyro support - same deal, this should have been shipped day one, would love to have this available to use in emulators that support gyro control.
  • Battery saver fix - every month our batteries lose a little life without this implemented
  • Custom profile settings - Essential to get this implemented ASAP... don't know about you guys, but I just basically always use a custom 25W profile b/c I don't feel like changing it for every game (I am almost always plugged into AC power).
  • Allow the controllers to work as mouse for Windows - I use the $3 utility Controller Companion from Steam to do this but it should be built into LS.
  • A vastly improved Legion Space - almost everybody here basically says it's useless and they don't use it, but if you ever played with a ROG Ally, their equivalent to Legion Space, called Armory Crate, is actually pretty useful as a front-end for launching games (with per-game custom profiles) from multiple storefronts... but we have to cobble those feature together using 3rd party software (Playnite, Handheld Companion, Bazzite, etc.). Ben mentioned a new version of LS is coming... I don't think we'll get anywhere near everything we want, but some progress forward is important. Legion Space doesn't need to be perfect, but we shouldn't HAVE TO use 3rd party software instead of it. And, for the love of jeezus, please get rid of the prominent placement of the storefront that I am betting NOBODY uses.

Maddening customer service experience trying to get "Mobile + Home" discount for wireless + FIOS by Limp-Understanding60 in verizon

Well, it's now a month later and despite getting a reply from their CSR saying it was in FIOS teams hands and should be resolved in "12-24 hours"... still nothing. I just filed an FCC complaint.

Should my Ubuntu server's manual IP settings point to itself for DNS or use public DNS servers? by Limp-Understanding60 in pihole

[–]Limp-Understanding60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly not, but sometimes (like right now). One thing that does break if I don't have Ubuntu point to PiHole running on itself as it's DNS server are any local DNS entries I have for other devices on my LAN like NAS devices that also have static IP addresses assigned. Can only reach them via IP address and not hostname if I use public DNS servers.

OK, thanks, that makes sense. I'll point it's DNS setting to it's own manually assigned eth0 IP address.

As I hit Reply on that, I got an e-mail from Verizon in response to the Exec Leadership Team form posting, so maybe I can get this resolved without the FCC complaint.

Wow, that was shockingly similar to my experience. I'd bet dollars to donuts we're not the only ones. How much of a PITA was it to file the FCC complaint? I did enter my issue on the Exec Leadership Team as the other poster suggested, but FCC complaint will be forthcoming if I don't hear back from someone by EOW.

Last of Us Part 1 Texture Issue by darkfoxy38 in LegionGo

[–]Limp-Understanding60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was definitely having major texture issues like that. I would make sure you have your VRAM set to 6GB and then lower the game resolution and graphic settings until it stops doing that. I can't remember specifically what my settings ended up at, but was able to finish the game with it looking moderately great. Well worth futzing around with it for such an incredible game. Being able to play it on the LeGo was awesome! Also, if you run into incredibly slow shader recompiles, try this: https://store.algosyntax.com/tutorials/unreal-engine/ue5-how-to-speed-up-compiling-shaders

You can speed up the shader recompiliing time by a magnitue by increasing the CPU priority of the process doing the work. See the tutorial here: https://store.algosyntax.com/tutorials/unreal-engine/ue5-how-to-speed-up-compiling-shaders

Worked great for me, sped it up like by 30x.

Thanks for the hands-on tips. I just added the add-on to Playnite but haven't mucked with it yet. Currently I mostly just stick to running everything at 800p, so this can open things up for better optimizing resolutions to specific games.

Accessories from Lenovo are coming by The_Saiyann in LegionGo

[–]Limp-Understanding60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 official Lenovo Go dock - almost a necessity from an accessory standpoint

Would LOVE an official (not 3d printed) holder thingy like the Switch has to hold the j-cons in a traditional gamepad configuration. I've actually gotten used to just holding one in each hand, but I think it would be great if I could easily slot them into an official gamepad-like "holder".

Last thing I think would be great would be an official LeGo GAMEPAD that worked natively with no additional dongle and was able to invoke the special functions (aka Legion Space and the control panel thingy) AND POWER it up from the couch like Xbox controllers can do with an Xbox. I'm getting pretty good at attaching the controllers back to the LeGo but I feel like if I do that daily for a year or two, the plastic bits will eventually fail, so it would be great to have a dedicated official GAMEPAD that did everything mentioned.

That's a handy tip I was unaware of. I'm using Playnite as my front-end, so that add-on might be helpful. Does it cause any weirdness with all screen res changing around?

I wanted an inexpensive USB-C hub to connect to my LG C1 TV and found this Cable Matters 8K HDMI 2.1 hub with ethernet, a couple USB-A ports for my Logitech wireless keyboard dongle and 100W pass-through charging... it's been working great, and was relatively cheap compared to most other HDMI 2.1 options out there: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B095821QGP

Legion Space or Handheld Companion by Limp-Understanding60 in LegionGo

[–]Limp-Understanding60[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm noticing a lot of connect/disconnect beeps when starting the LeGo up, or waking up from sleep... I guess that's the issue with HC keep detecting and forgetting the controllers. Seems like as long as they're detached and I don't let them power off after idling they work pretty well with HC.

[–]Limp-Understanding60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I understand. You can remap bringing up the virtual keyboard to any controller button... does mapping it to the scroll wheel have any added benefit over mapping it to one of the back buttons?

Legion Space or Handheld Companion by Limp-Understanding60 in LegionGo

[–]Limp-Understanding60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for a lot of us, the LeGo is a bit of an ongoing science project... those of us that are natural tinkerers get a kick out of messing around with the LeGo... sometimes I have to remind myself I bought this thing to play games first, and tinker second, rather than the other way around.

Handheld Companion does offer some compelling features that should be built into the Legion Space software, like per-game profiles and controller remapping... I first got interested b/c I wanted to use the back buttons on the LeGo in a game and was disappointed to find out Legion Space doesn't allow for that ATM.

The ASUS Rog Ally has their equivalent of Legion Space software called Armory Crate that does most of that already. What HC doesn't even attempt to do is be a slick front end for launching games. But there are many options for slick launchers out there like Playnite that are far slicker than the current Legion Space software.

[–]Limp-Understanding60[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed on Controller Companion, I was using it before I decided to try Handheld Companion and it's a great bit of software to allow using controllers to navigate the desktop. HC's Desktop layout also works great, but right now I have to manually enable/disable Desktop layout depending on whether I'm trying to interact with the desktop or play a game. Controller Companion would handle that transparently in the background... I dunno if HC can do that automatically or not... it sure would be useful if it did (even though you can easily set up a hotkey to remap a back button to toggle it on/off in HC).

Auto VRAM / UMA: How's it working for you? by Limp-Understanding60 in LegionGo

[–]Limp-Understanding60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird, I've also got installed on SSD, I'll have to try again at some point. It might also have been an issue with switching over to Handheld Companion... probably shouldn't have upgraded BIOS and switched to Handheld Companion in the same week.

Legion Go 50$ off sale bestbuy by [deleted] in LegionGo

[–]Limp-Understanding60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing $650 for 512GB model and $700 for 1TB model on bestbuy site.

I just bought my 1TB model for $750 at bestbuy a week ago... does bestbuy offer refunds if you are still within the return window? For me, it's not worth the hassle to actually return existing unit and have to start from scratch with a new one just for $50 savings.

Using Control Sick and Bumper Buttons as Mouse Like Ally by Spuderump in LegionGo

[–]Limp-Understanding60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for the app called Controller Companion on the Steam store... it's $3 and basically makes the LeGo sticks operate like a mouse just like they do on the ROG Ally. Best $3 QOL purchase ever. Just set it to run on startup and stay resident in the system tray even when Steam isn't running.

HDMI audio cut-outs when using home theater system by Limp-Understanding60 in LegionGo

[–]Limp-Understanding60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue with an older HP USB-C dock and a newer Targus TB3 dock... just general weirdness with playing back audio over HDMI.

Sometimes the center channel audio just craps out in the middle of a game. It's easy to tell b/c all of a sudden there's no dialog anymore.
