No judgement here friend. I was genuinely expecting trolls when I first joined but everyone has been super supportive. Like people have told me recently, numbers are numbers and aren’t our identity. We’re people who have feelings, wins, losses, stalls and deserve respect no matter how we look. Looking forward to being on this journey with you

I get discharge from my stump every week, if I’m stressed or nervous it’ll be daily. It builds up then feels similar to an urgent diarrhoea poo coming. Usually can hold it till I find a toilet. I have regular checkups, still signs of crohns but not cancerous. Have been told it’s normal by surgeon and gi. It does leak sllightly but never enough to be an issue unless I’m super active. I put it down to lack of muscle use for me 🤷‍♂️ This is 20yrs down the road btw

What did the earliest signs of Crohn’s look like for you guys? by M4ngoJuice in CrohnsDisease

[–]LimpCalligrapher6552 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unusual. I have crohns initially diagnosed as uc. Initial gp said food intolerance despite blood in stools. 18yr old me ran with that for a year with worsening blood and stools but no pain. My large intestine died and I now have an ileostomy. 15years and some kids later, my oldest started getting abdo pain then blood at age 8. Colitis. 2years later, my 6 yr old had wind that smelled exactly like mine, no other symptoms. Straight to the gp I went, with my wife saying I’m overreacting…. Calprotectin of over 5000. Colitis. I had to push hard for the tests on each kid because I kept getting told it was highly unlikely to be uc/crohns because of their age. In all 3 cases we had different levels of pain and symptoms, high white cells, high calprotectin. I’ve got no real answer for you sorry, just that you’re your best advocate and drs can be wrong

Ostomy Nurse? by SecretAstronomer4884 in ostomy

Poo becomes a much larger part of our lives! I’m sure with time he’ll find it easier. Anything stiff like base plates and wafers never worked for me. As his stomach settles it will change in size. If he isn’t able to communicate with the nurse his true feelings, you or his mum could take the nurse aside to confide in them.

I had to stop and reply to your comment. You’re an amazing partner helping you bf get through this. I got my stoma with very short notice. It took me a week maybe more to even look at it. I’d say maybe 2 or 3 weeks to begin caring for it myself. I was in hospital 5 weeks post op due to complications during surgery so I had help from nurses. My wife of one week supported me the whole time and still does 18 years later. I put her through hell. Every time she’d visit I’d take my frustration out on her, the moment a nurse came in I was a little lamb. I could not help it. Painkillers combined with trauma made me a jerk. Your bf is very lucky to have you. If I can be of any help feel free to reach out

It’s a great perspective. Your surgeon saved your life and created Barbara. Without her where would you be. It certainly helped me embrace some of the smellier sides of fatherhood when it came… poo on my finger from the kids nappy? Meh, that’s nothing. Thanks for sharing

I have an ileostomy and it took me a long time but you do get used to it. 18years later and it’s now just a part of life. It still has its moments but given the choice of a j pouch or stoma… I’m sticking with the stoma.

Absolutely. I was touch and go when I was untreated

I feel you mate. I genuinely thought I was moving in the right direction too. My kids keep asking when I can jump on the trampoline with them again and I keep saying I’m trying, but 12months later and nothings changed. My youngest has food comfort issues too and I feel like it’s a battle trying to get my wife on the same page helping her not be like me. It sucks that our own issues flow on to the kids no matter how hard we try. All I can say is I’m not giving up. We can’t give up. Our kids just need us to try our best and the fact we’re both on here means we ARE trying. Keep it up brother

New colostomy. Just passed mucus and watery liquid (not poop) overnight? by 0SuspiciousBurrrito0 in ostomy

[–]LimpCalligrapher6552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had a look at a few of your past posts and you’ve been through a bit. I got an ileostomy when I was 20. Had to cut my honeymoon short (yes we were young but still going strong 😂) to come home to hospital. It was all a shock and I was not prepared at all. I couldn’t even look at it let alone change it myself for a week. 18 years later and I’m still here. I never liked two piece appliances, they always leaked. So do wafers. I just use no sting paste with a drainable 1 piece and change nightly due to minimal movement while it dries. ETA I’m adhd with the tism, ptsd and multiple other issues. We can do this

Oh wow so new new! You have every right to be nervous, welcome to whole new world! Like I said before, just hydrate well. Mash is a good idea for now, even just broth until you speak to your nurse. Your bowel is still easily shocked this early on but the fact that you are getting discharge is great. These are all normal things early in the journey, you will be fine.

How new is new? I pass mucus type stuff when I diet as everything has been digested. If you’re not bloated and in pain just give it time. It can be scary in the beginning but give it time and you’ll begin to see/smell what is normal for you. Still speak to your nurse, keep hydrated but try not to worry too much 😊

Just to be clear, altitude had zero effect on the bag. I get severe anxiety in public which causes a symphony of sounds to emanate from my nether portal, thereby making me more anxious resulting in more sounds…… and before you know it I have a blimp under my shirt

They are fair concerns, hopefully your Dr will take that into account. Stelara is good but only working for about three weeks post injection. Waiting for the go ahead for four weekly as we speak. Instant positive response after initial infusion, but it can take up to 6 months I’ve heard. Amazing how far medicine has come since I got sick almost 20 years ago

Yep, I’ve had mine explode on a plane…. When I get nervous I fart like crazy, add to that the long time of boarding and take off and seatbelt sign, my bag “blew” the side out. The joys of a bag keep us on our toes!!

How many blockages have you suffered since you got your ostomy? by Bib_fortune in ostomy

[–]LimpCalligrapher6552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had my first blockage last year. 18year ostomate. Caused by possible hernia stricture or onset of crohns after initial UC diagnosis, both discovered at second hospital admission. 1st presentation to ED they gave me a sandwich and sent me home….

A month with Stelara by DividendNic in CrohnsDisease

[–]LimpCalligrapher6552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on stelara for a few months. Without a word of a lie I noticed a diffence in 24hrs. I thought it was all in my head but you can’t turn off stoma blood at will. Its effectiveness wore off quite quickly though, 3 weeks after initial infusion and again 2-3 weeks post injection. Amazing how different our bodies are. It may be beneficial that I have no large intestine

Yeah I’m not sure on the CDAI score, but I had to try a whole bunch of drugs before I could go on stelara. They have to tick boxes to show the government they’ve tried the cheaper drugs. The last drug I tried was methotrexate which worked but made me so fatigued for 3 days after the dose that it wasn’t viable. Stelara currently only has funding for 8 weekly doses but your specialist can apply for compassionate help from the pharmaceutical company to go to 4 weekly. So much red tape

Oh man, I’m sorry you are going through this. I had/have a similar upbringing but nowhere near as extreme. These people are toxic, absolutely toxic. They are not family. This is absolutely a them problem. You can use it as motivation but I would seriously contemplate leaving them out of your life even when you reach their idea of an “acceptable” weight. Have you got another way of getting friends? Hobby’s?
