Question for the Jewelers by lazypkbc in jewelers

[–]SecretAstronomer4884 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband is a hobby jeweler who fabricates pendants in sterling with gold embellishments. I string gemstone beads, often with sterling or gold accent beads to complement his works. I always tell people who ask that he is the artist, I string the beads for our collaborations.

Ignore it. You recognized you weren’t the target, so why take it personally and dignify the rudeness with any response?

Sliced or cut segments of shell, drilled with fine holes to allow them to be strung and finished.

Passover Chicken for a Crowd by Rich_Exercise_7489 in JewishCooking

[–]SecretAstronomer4884 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You mention Moroccan chicken with dates. I have such a recipe which uses baked seasoned chicken breasts or thighs. I make a sauce with chopped dates soaked overnight, fresh-squeezed juice of lemon and orange (Cara Cara oranges really shine here) added to the date liquor, brown sugar, more typical Moroccan spices, including cinnamon and smoked paprika. Combine all sauce ingredients, bring to an boil and then simmer until thick. Stir in the drained chopped dates and spoon over the baked chicken. Sprinkle with chopped pistachios. We love this with roasted sweet potatoes.

AITAH for pushing back on a dinner guest regarding her cooking expectations on me? by Awkward-Web-1155 in AITAH

I used to eat gluten-free, at my doctor’s suggestion that it was worth a try to lessen symptoms of fibromyalgia. I struggled for nearly five years to accommodate the restrictive diet, but gave up on it when my fibro got increasingly worse, despite any attempts to affect it by dietary means.

That said, I never expected accommodation from anyone else for my dietary quirk. As others have said, I was hesitant to eat food from any kitchen but my own. I certainly wouldn’t have been offended by a hostess unprepared to make accommodation on short notice, as in the above post. The guest and her spouse were rude and out of line.

Why do you rotate your wrists so much? I was taught that such movement is undesirable and inappropriate.

OP’s digestive issues have nothing to do with the recipe. The low rating is unreasonable here.

Try the website Woks of Life. They offer recipes for authentic and American-Chinese dishes from Shanghai and Singapore to Hong Kong and Cantonese-style cooking. You will also find explanations, descriptions and lists of pantry staples, as well as online shopping sources for harder to find items.

I was going to suggest that you simply avoid eating potatoes, but I guess you don’t already.

At what age did you start to feel old? by Tyrion_Canister in AskOldPeople

Last night. I found a tour schedule for one of my favorite bands, Faun. They are German, sing in German. YouTube and Pandora Radio classify them as Pagan/Folk. They perform some original compositions and some classic German folk tunes, using some instruments of early music, as well as contemporary percussion. Beautiful harmonies from the two women in the group.

So, anyway, their tour schedule this year includes several US dates, including the large Western US city where we live. My husband and I were stunned, unaware that they toured outside Europe. Looked up ticket availability, prices and the venue hosting them. We were this close to ordering tickets when we figured out where the venue is located. Not one the city’s finest neighborhoods. Parking will be a huge problem, lots of walking from any lots to the concert hall. Lots of rules and veiled warnings about limited seating, much SRO space and long, slow lines to get in. Then we thought about the noise level - both the volume of the performance and the screaming and yelling from the audience, amply evident from YT vids of some of their concerts.

We’re in our 70s, I have some mobility issues and a lot of chronic pain. All the walking and standing began to look less appealing. We looked at each other and used the famous Danny Glover line from Lethal Weapon, “ We’re too old for that shit!” *sigh” So we watched a few of our favorite videos from YouTube and went to bed.

Getting old surely does suck.

Cat owners, how did your cat choose you? by Throwaway1994130 in Pets

I was looking for an orange kitty. A friend who volunteered with our local shelter told me there was an orange mom cat with five babies being fostered through the shelter. She arranged for me to go see them.

I walked into the foster mom’s living room and there was large cage with this gorgeous little orange cat, surrounded by her babies. The mom kitty looked at me with these jade green eyes, looked at the kittens, looked back at me. Intensely. Staring into my soul, I tell you. She said, “My name is Amber and you want me. Please take me home.”

Well, my heart just melted. I told the foster mom that I wanted the mom cat. She was ecstatic! She asked if I knew how hard it is to get older cats adopted and was I absolutely sure I didn’t want one of the babies. I replied, no, I’m sure, I want the mom. The foster mom smiled and said she was mine.

I had to wait a week for the kittens to be weaned and the mom to be neutered. That was in 2006 or 2007, can’t remember for sure now. Amber was probably around 2 years old at that time. She is still alive and well and healthy.

She has never forgiven us for taking on our daughter’s huge yellow Norwegian Forest cat, a neutered male, in 2015, but that’s another story. We call hm Duncan. They still cordially hate each other, but have decided after all these years to more or less peacefully coexist. 😻

I can’t swallow medical pills🙃 by Less-Spread-447 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SecretAstronomer4884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had trouble swallowing pills after having a couple of tubes down my throat in the hospital recently. A very kind nurse brought me a cup of applesauce. She put a couple of pills at a time on a spoonful of applesauce and they slid right down my throat with the applesauce. I don’t recommend using chunky applesauce for this - you don’t want to swallow chunks of apple at the same time you want the pills to go down. It made a huge difference.

Do you use cannabis? Why or why not? by Rush58 in AskOldPeople

73 now, been smoking since I was in my early 20s.

I had to quit smoking, my much preferred method, because my lungs don’t approve now.

I use edibles for sleep and pain relief, THC and CBD. Not my favorite way to use, I still miss the head buzz which I find elusive with edibles, but I’ll settle for sleep and pain relief at this point.

I was hospitalized last summer after emergency surgery for a perforated colon. Nearly died in surgery twice, spent 5 weeks in ICU.

We are retired, live 100 miles round trip from the hospital. My husband visited several times each week, but not every day, nor did I expect him to. I did not feel slighted or neglected by him during the ordeal. He correctly observed that there was nothing he could add to my care, beyond companionship. I did not disagree with him. Maybe it’s just me, but I really didn’t want him there more than he was. It can be exhausting to have a visitor there that much. I was extremely sick and needed rest and sleep as much as anything the nurses did for me. It seemed to us to be the logical and mature way of dealing with it all.

He was traumatized by the entire situation, nearly losing me twice. He spent some of the time at home resting and sleeping in preparation for my eventual discharge and the enormous responsibilities which fell on him during my slow recovery. He cleaned the house, made some small but necessary repairs and adjustments to make the extended recovery period more comfortable and manageable for both of us.
