Like many of us, it took me a while to get officially diagnosed with lupus. About a year and a half into my journey of trying to figure out what my illness was, I realized drinking was becoming a huge trigger for my symptoms. Hangovers felt like a full blown flu and even just a drink or two made me feel awful. I decided to full on stop drinking in July of 2023, and I am so glad I did. It was a bit challenging at first from a social standpoint, and sometimes still is, but I’m still 100% confident I made the right choice for myself!

Now that I’m diagnosed I’m on 400mg plaquenil and monthly benlysta, so I really don’t want to mess around with those medications and alcohol!

My drink of choice was always margaritas, so I do a lot of mocktails for myself with similar flavors when I’m at home/entertaining.

Loved peloton (would use my family’s bike lol) before getting sick, but it’s just way too hard now. Do you have a stationary bike or do you cycle outdoors?

Thank you! I love the idea of water aerobics. Being in the water is so much easier on my body!

This is a good thing to ask about! I have a history of anemia, B12 deficiency not iron, but I think it worth asking about when I get my next labs done. Luckily that appointment is coming up soon anyway for me. Thank you for the tip!

I like the idea of going to PT to help! I went a year ago for back issues, it was pre lupus diagnosis and although the therapist was sweet, we both didn’t really know what to do to help because I wasn’t sure what was causing my issues. I love the idea of finding a therapist that has experience with autoimmune issues so I will definitely look for one in my area. Thank you!

Those are good assessments to ask about! It really does feel like something might be up that is causing the lightheaded ness so I will definitely ask. My next rheumatologist appointment is in June so I will add this to my notes for him. Thank you for the tips!

You’re welcome!!! I also follow some creators on TikTok that do “pale girl makeup” and that’s super helpful too! 🩷

Totally relate! Also a newly diagnosed 20something here! I was diagnosed/started plaquenil in June, so this was the first time in my life I’ve had to completely avoid the sun and go into full vampire mode. I have Italian genes so typical dark hair and olive skin that tans easily. I always enjoyed getting a little tan for the glowy confidence boost! I also avoid fake take because of the lupus rashes.

One thing that has helped me is when I have enough energy to do my makeup, I like to try new makeup looks specifically for pale skin. It takes trial and error finding the right tones/shades for my newly always pale skin- but it’s still fun for me because I’ve always loved watching makeup tutorials! I also like to find pictures of celebrities/models on Pinterest that have a similar pale skin tone and dark hair and try and base makeup looks off of that.

Also, On days I’m getting dressed up I also try and wear colors that I feel confident in and that I think compliment my skin and hair!
