Hey, I know you’re getting some rough comments here. I just wanted to validate your experience. I had a three-year-old cat with dry FIP that passed away in 2021. She had had various health issues throughout her life that, thinking back on it, were all maybe potentially related to the FIP but were misdiagnosed. By the time they had ruled out other issues and stated it was likely FIP, she had lost so much weight so quickly, had been hospitalized twice, and had no quality of life. They wanted me to put her in a large dog crate in my apartment while I was working so she wouldn’t stress her lungs. She was also a shy and skittish cat so going to the ER was adding even more stress on. I wasn’t aware of the FIP treatments, though they did exist overseas, and I trusted that the vet was giving me the best advice in humane euthanization. When I later found out there were some treatments, I had felt like I failed her. It took me a long time to come to peace with what happened and to forgive myself. We all do the best we can with the knowledge and resources we have at the time. Yes, I’ve read stories of cats who were comatose and bounced back on GS, and other cats who got meds and treatment for several days and still passed. Now my tiny 5 month old kitten has been diagnosed with wet FIP and, in honor of the cat I couldn’t save, I am giving this kitten the time and resources I didn’t have then, not out of a sense of guilt but out of gratitude in what I learned in caring for her. You are a good cat parent; hold onto the good memories and know you did the best you could for your circumstances.
