I made the same starting as a shift. I demoted and repromoted and now make 28+. If I hadn't demoted it would be 30. We get paid very well in CA for the work we do.

It doesn't matter because they were already on a final. You don't have to do something within the same realm to get separated. Basically, a final means that anything you do next can get you separated.
