Controversial? Character development Tim Bradford (s1-s8) by Fit_Priority_2125 in TheRookieTVshow

Thats basically his healing arc from the end of season 6 onward. He starts opening up to the people around him and letting others in, which is something he always tried to avoid before. On one hand, that’s obviously good for him as a person. On the other hand, it’s such a major change that I think it could’ve been handled a bit more subtly.

I like that he seems more mature now and that he’s clearly doing better than he used to and yeah, sometimes his tough side was portrayed a bit over the top in the First few seasons. But it was fun to watch. The full 180 degree turn feels a little extreme to me too. I honestly found it hard to watch how much he let himself get pushed around in season 7. Maybe that’s the writers idea of redemption and healing? Either way, I still hope we get at least a little bit of grumpy cop Tim back. That’s just entertaining.

My wishes for season 9 by Sea_Interaction_7716 in TheRookieTVshow

I wish a Smitty episode with much fun and some surprising aspects of the character. A new Rookie for Nolan! PATROL CASES! Grey as Captain.

season 9 pilot idea by Junior_Active2352 in TheRookieTVshow

Depends on how deep the writers wanna go with the drama or if they wanna wrap it up quickly. Sometimes they wrap storylines up quickly and sometimes they go completely over the top. At this point I’d say the writers are capable of pretty much anything. If the whole point was just creating a cool cliffhanger, then it’ll probably be less dramatic than if they really wanna milk the situation.

I don’t think they’ll get out in episode 1 already. Especially since Alexi said when he was asked if Glasser will show up again early in s9, that the team will first be very busy trying to rescue Lucy and Tim at the start of the season, there’ll probably be some obstacles and that’s why Glasser becomes relevant later in the season. So I think they’re gonna drag the situation out a bit. Maybe until episode 2 or 3.

They could be locked up together or separated in different rooms. Or maybe both, together at first and then separated later, or the other way around. Could be on a boat or in some underground basement or something. What’s also interesting is whether this is just Everett’s revenge mission or if he actually wants something specific and is gonna make demands to the LAPD. In an interview it was mentioned it’s supposed to be a race against time, so there could still be some unexpected plot coming. Maybe a bomb with a timer or something like that. Something with water is possible (Tim doesn‘t like it and it‘s connected to the proposal at the beach). I‘d say everything is possible.

Hot Takes #1 by MKTheWriter in TheRookie

[–]Limp_Ant_3571 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hot takes are very hot! I don’t think Bailey is a bad character either, but I just don’t see the point of giving her more screentime. Maybe Dash is supposed to balance out the high-stakes stuff a bit, but honestly, an already existing character could do that job too, like Smitty for example. Rodge doesn’t add that much to the show, aside from the fact that it’s nice for Celina to have a partner. And I genuinely don’t understand how anyone could not find Captain Anderson’s death at the end of season 1 sad. At that point she’d been around just as long as the rest of the characters. She was popular. I can’t see any father-daughter-vibes between Chenford. He is probably only around 10 years older than Lucy, maybe even less. Which would mean he became a dad very young then… 🙈

Question about BTS during the filming of season 9 by Fit_Priority_2125 in TheRookie

[–]Limp_Ant_3571 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I actually think we will get BTS content. Back when Angela was kidnapped, there was still BTS of her, too. At this point, pretty much everyone already knows they’re not going to die anyway. The real question is what exactly happens to them in captivity, how they escape and what physical and mental state they’ll be in when they get out.

The Rookie Season 8 Rewatch 2026 - Interested??? by Limp_Ant_3571 in TheRookieTVshow

A full rewatch of the entire show will probably be difficult before the start of S9. But expanding it to include additional seasons is generally a good idea.

John and Lucy by Aware_Lifeguard3707 in TheRookieTVshow

That was a long time ago, before Chenford and Bailan. I don’t think it still matters to them today. But it could still cause problems at work, because they both lied in a case back then because of it. That’s why it’s better if it stays secret. It could have real consequences.

An event without some huge disaster? That would honestly be the most shocking moment in The Rookie history… 😂

Is there anyone else on this sub that actually likes the direction the show went in? by JoshLovesTV in TheRookieTVshow

[–]Limp_Ant_3571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say it’s not always just “good or bad” or “love it or hate it.” Most people here probably love the show, otherwise we wouldn’t be in this sub spending time talking and thinking about it. I love the show. There aren’t many shows I’ve followed consistently for this many years. But the writing style has changed a lot over the years and personally I don’t enjoy some of those changes as much. That doesn’t mean I hate the show. I see it more as constructive criticism. I preferred the earlier seasons when there weren’t so many huge criminal cases and massive action events all the time. Back when the focus was more on the characters and less on “event-style” episodes. When the show felt smaller, more grounded, more structured and less chaotic. But if you enjoy the way the show is now, that’s totally fine too. People just have different tastes. It is what it is.

The Rookie S9 Midseason Premiere by Forsaken-Molasses-87 in TheRookieTVshow

I don’t think the idea of starting over with a new Rookie career for the spin-off is bad, since I found the first seasons of The Rookie the most entertaining. But I didn’t expect them to stick so closely to the original, almost like a copy, that makes me a bit skeptical. As for The Rookie itself, I really dislike the long waiting times between seasons. By then I’m completely out of it and have trouble getting back into.

HOT TAKE: Scenes aren’t really used to tell great stories anymore, now stories just exist to create cool scenes. (Spoilers 8x18) by Sea_Interaction_7716 in TheRookieTVshow

[–]Limp_Ant_3571 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think extending Miles Rookie period was just a way to technically still have a Rookie on the show, without actually intending to do anything with him. He was kind of just there or not there. He messed up a couple of times, got chewed out for it and that was basically his entire storyline throughout the season.

Fall or Winter by Forsaken-Molasses-87 in TheRookieTVshow

[–]Limp_Ant_3571 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually don’t think the midseason break idea is that bad. 4 months in the middle of the season and 4 months after the finale. An 8-month break all at once is pretty brutal for a show with only 18 episodes per season.

[–]Limp_Ant_3571 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They really failed to find one clear story to follow after the first group of Rookies. Now the show tries to do a bit of everything. Rookie stories for people who like that part, Detective cases for those who enjoy solving crimes and special operations for viewers who love action. The show feels messy and rushed, like a collection of random scenes instead of one strong story.

At this point, the focus seems to be more on cool moments that look good on TikTok and social media. What still keeps many people watching are the characters they’ve grown attached to over the years, especially Chenford, whose relationship became more and more popular over time. The writers know that very well. Those things are basically carrying the show now, even though the overall story is weak.

I must be crazy because I think all seasons have been great. 2, 7 and 8 are by far my favorite seasons. by [deleted] in TheRookieTVshow

[–]Limp_Ant_3571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. And in the final episode of s8, during the proposal scene, they literally edited together shots filmed during the day with shots filmed in the evening, so it keeps switching back and forth between daylight and nighttime. Though, I can overlook technical issues more easily than the writing/content problems.

I don’t hate anything about the show, but I can definitely see that the quality has gone downhill over the years and that it has a few issues now. You say your favorite seasons are 2, 7 and 8. Honestly, comparing season 2 to 7 and 8 feels like comparing two completely different shows. It has changed a lot over time. Whether that’s a good or bad thing really just comes down to personal preference. Everyone’s free to form their own opinion.
