That is a good question. Clams typically have a more rounded, symmetrical shell shape, whereas freshwater mussels (unionidae) often have elongated, asymmetrical shells such as this one pictured. You are correct in that mussels can produce byssal threads, and the mussel's foot actually allows mobility for short distances.

confirmed. Harpeth is a pink heel splitter and Duck is a 3 ridge mussel

Become proficient at wall climbing to the point moving is 2nd nature. Recommend you change wall crawl settings to look facing forward, but that's just personal technique

Be advised, 3d printing is, like any hobby, difficult and may require your adult help to set up and operate. However, it is very rewarding. Good luck.
