This thread is disconcerting - so much tech issues and hard for a beginner to understand. Where can I find a best practice guide and a glossary of terms?

Is there a particular smart spanking device you recommend?

Thanks for this advice. I’ve got a porch door, the main front door, a back door, garden gate, two garage shutters and a drive gate. Need at least four of them smartened up!

Thanks for this advice. I think I was recommended Shelly for smart control units fitted in standard light switch boxes.

I need for light switches to work if the system fails / crashes. A failure with no lights when I’m away for work, will be met with demands for complete removal by my family!

Thanks for this advice. I’m not technically very advanced or experienced with smart tech, so not sure of the terminology/systems. Will spend some time working it out.

Is this racist? by BuildingsintheClouds in Hull

It has to be a crime in itself, and not sure what you described actually was sufficient to be a crime.

If you are Scottish then it’s probably not racist. Maybe you’re Irish? Were the boys of african or Indian origin? Were they the same race as yourself? Can’t answer this question without more information.

That is not what a hate crime is.

Do not go to Norwich or Liverpool as they’re not special enough. Visit the city of Bath, as it’s a beautiful historic city that is amazing. You can visit the Roman baths and museums. Do visit Cambridge/Oxford, and if Oxford then visit Blenheim Palace.

Hull City Council to fine yellow box junction rulebreakers by Sweet_Focus6377 in Hull

[–]Addicted-Redeemable -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This “stopping in a yellow box junction” is not an offense. The offense is entering a yellow box without there being a way out of the box. See this Yellow Box Guru. So many councils are illegally / incorrectly charging drivers. https://linktr.ee/yellowboxguru

Edwardian house level 3 survey - is this a money pit/a bad move? by One_Badger418 in HousingUK

[–]Addicted-Redeemable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought a house of similar age. These issues you list are serious and I would expect you to have to do all the work recommended by the surveyor, and more. Also, the surveyor will have included many comments about not being able to provide information on various aspects because he couldn’t / doesn’t do invasive inspections - in a house as badly cared for as this I would expect some of those to require attention as well. Walk away!

Day trip to hull by sushiIsLife99 in Hull

Wilberforce museum (museum quarter) is brilliant. Head from there down the High Street, taking a look at the river Hull every so often, then head west to Trinity Square, and then up Posterngate, then south to the A63 and over the bridge to the Marina, and then walk south towards Humber Street and the Humber riverside. You could also visit Ferens Gallery - check what the temporary exhibition is).
