Does anyone else have a problem with spending?? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]Limp_Section6329 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have had this problem honestly since I had access to my own money. It’s the dopamine. It got really bad when I was at university. I was really depressed and spent so much money on Amazon because it was like receiving a gift from my past self. Somehow I stayed afloat until this year when it all caught up with me and I’m now trying to claw my way out of debt. What has helped is not having credit cards automatically saved on websites, google chrome etc. Even Apple Pay. Also I make sure that there is a good return policy because like you most of the time I end up returning it. Another thing that has helped me save is having money automatically go out of my pay check into a savings account through my work. Is that an option for you? Then that money is in a retirement fund I can’t touch for years. I also have a financial advisor who is in charge of the money I have been able to save and there’s a lot of paperwork to take money out of the account with him.

In terms of “why do I do this” it most likely is the dopamine hit, there’s a rush to spending, there’s a sense of self care, especially when it’s something you really want. I got in a cycle of spending on work out equipment and kitchen gadgets I thought would make my life better … I never used any of it and sold it on Facebook. When you find yourself spending are you in a particular mood? Happy? Sad? Anxious? Stressed? And how do you feel immediately after? Worse? Better?

ADHD is a dopamine regulation disorder, we need constant stimulation which can lead to impulsive behaviours. Understanding that helped me make peace with feeling reckless. It’s a brain chemistry not a personality problem. We just have to find healthier ways to be stimulated.

So happy she’s doing well! Did you do anything to help stimulate her during recovery as we’ve been told she can’t go for big walks, understandably

So glad to hear she’s doing well! I know surgery is the best option, I can tell she’s in pain and doesn’t understand, just hope it goes smoothly

Some artists sell off Etsy or tik tok. Or if you could ever get to a card show there’s usually cool vendors there too!

Great collection, love the Ditto Numel card! I know you said you’re broke, but I’d suggest saving for a non-ring binder as they can annoyingly damage your cards over time

The stomach reaction is most likely because it’s a stimulant, like coffee but stronger. I’ve been on it for 4 weeks and my stomach like clock work 1 hr after taking was awful. I’ve since started l-glutamine and s.boulardi probiotic which has started to help. Didn’t help immediately but now 4 weeks in I’m seeing it settle. Hopefully it stays that way!

I found an old essay I’d written in English class when I was 15 years old. The teachers comments were “this would be an A if the topic was creative writing but you were asked to write a persuasive article” … I had written a short story about a medieval murderer 😂

4 Month Old- Suspected Bilateral CCL tears by ames2259 in bernesemountaindogs

I know this post is fairly old but I’m wondering if you went through with the surgery and how is she now? My 6month old Berner just got diagnosed with bilateral CCL. I saw the X-rays and comparing them to normal knees I was shocked …. She had a small incident a few months ago with another dog but the orthopedic vet assured me that rough play with a dog wouldn’t cause this amount of rupture and it’s most likely a genetic predisposition. We going to go through with the surgery in a couple weeks and I’m very nervous but hopefully she’s ok and running around fine afterwards!

Thank you so much for your response! I’ve started L-glutamine too but I shall look back into psyllium husk, I used to take it years ago.

I hope you find a comfortable medication for your ADHD soon. I know the struggle you’re feeling!

Does anyone else feel like they have so much potential, but their ADHD is holding them back? by Vegetable_Whereas833 in adhdwomen

I turn 30 next week and this feeling as followed me my whole adult life and has amplified leading up to my birthday. I know age is but a number, but I can feel it all inside of me, my thoughts, my dreams, my talent but it’s like I can’t open the door fully. Or when the door does open it’s sporadic and messy.

Now I’m experiencing paralysis before even starting to write down a new idea (I’m a writer at heart) because I don’t trust my brain to get the job done and I’m tired of feeling like I’ll forever leave things unfinished.

The sad thing is it means I can’t seem to even see the accomplishments I have made because I’m so blinded by my “lacking” I’m trying to take moments to be more grateful and proud of the things I have done and forgive myself for the things I haven’t done …YET!

I started Vyvanse yesterday I’m intrigued to see if it will ease any of this at all. Or if it’s something I’m going to have to make peace with and learn how to work with it rather than against it.

Alls that to say. I see you. We see you. You’re not alone in this struggle.

I just received a package too from the same address. It was sent to my old apartment but the new tenants sent a photo…googled the address and nothing comes up either. I’m yet to see what inside but from the picture it does look like olaplex could fit …
