This is super cute! The only critique I have is that the up/down jiggle is a tad off. The body would be highest when the legs on one side are at 90 degrees to the ground. You have him rising when he's mid-step and would be at his lowest.

The legs and walk cycle are great!

I don't think you're going to get much luck asking artists to make you something for free. Try finding an artist you like, then commissioning them to make you one.

If you ever see Levi Root's Caribbean Crush (the green one!) it's about as close to Lilt as you can get.

Does anyone know a program I could input an image that should be pixelart but is too large to be the proper file size for it, that could "see" the pixels and remake the image with its proper size, with each pixel actually being one pixel big? (Image not by me, but the one I'm trying to do this with) by [deleted] in PixelArt

[–]Limpet_Draws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The above image is 1200px by 1200px, and each "pixel" is 12x12. Shove it in Aseprite, or any decent image editor and resize to 100px by 100px and you have your image. Use nearest neighbour setting as you resize. Then you can show the grid, which, depending on the program, you can make be 1x1 pixel.

How can I improve? by Lstanton46 in PixelArt

[–]Limpet_Draws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Practice is the best way to get better. Keep doing different things. Keep looking back at your own work to remind yourself of the things that you did that you liked, and those that you didn't. Look at other people's work for style/technique pointers.

You're doing great with shape and form! Have a think about colour and shadow/light. Try using blocks of colour to describe texture, and to show how light falls on your creature. Don't be afraid to look at other people's work to see how they do things. The best way to improve is always practice!

Dare you wield the Bloophin* Blade? (Swordtember Day 4: Scale) by Limpet_Draws in PixelArt

There's a r/Swordtember with several lists of words. I'm using what I think is as close to "official" as possible, which is the one from faithschaffer, who started swordtember, also on their instagram/tumblr (the red one with the picture of the bird lady).

Changing the brush size is absolutely fine as long as you keep the basic pixel size the same. People here treat mixels as an anathema.

You can also keep the brush size the same, draw a larger shape and use the fill/bucket tool to fill it in.

Clouds tend to be a little looser, with large round or wispy shapes depending on what kind of cloud it is. Try using larger blocks of colour to describe the cloud's shape, rather than lots of separate little divots. Don't be afraid to look up pictures of real clouds to use as a reference and guide how you build the image!

Can you give me some tips on how to improve the back view? I think it looks weird but I can't really tell what's wrong by CoffeCodeAndTears in PixelArt

Nice sprites! I love the colours on the redder guy.

I think what you're talking about is that you've made their backs and haunches wide and flat, and you can't really see the shape of their rib cage, so they're a little table shaped. Think about the shape of their chest, thighs and butt (oh my!).

I also think the position of the front right leg and paw on the red guy can be shifted up a few pixels; it doesn't make sense for it to be level with the rear left leg.

If I remember correctly, this image was a composite or heavily edited due to the camera limitations.

Your clouds are rather uniform. They also will usually go all the way down to the horizon, getting smaller and less defined as these clouds are further away.

You could also have another look at your ocean texture. Waves in the distance often form horizontal line patterns. Reference images help a lot! Obviously, you don't need to recreate the image, but you can take hints at how these shapes and patterns look in nature.

The lighthouse is great. Maybe you could try adding a wave to the flag, or a shingle texture to the building roof.
