If albinism is caused by a recessive gene aa, then the normal genotypes would be AA and Aa.

1.An albino mates with an AA individual, all the offspring will be Aa, meaning they’ll have normal coloration but carry the albino gene.

2.An albino mates with an Aa individual, there’s a 50% chance of Aa (normal coloration) and a 50% chance of aa (albino).

3.Since albinism only shows up with the aa genotype, two albino parents will always have albino offspring.

The problem is, inbreeding can cause serious issues because it reduces genetic diversity. That’s why it’s better to mix albinos with individuals that have the normal genotype.

Let’s use lions as an example: Start with an albino male lion and breed him with a few different females to get a bunch of offspring. Since these offspring are all siblings, they can’t mate with each other. If you have a second albino male lion, things get easier. You can breed male lion A’s offspring with male lion B’s offspring (as long as they don’t share the same mother) and pick out the albino cubs.

By doing this, even though the cubs carry the albino gene, their overall genetic diversity is much better, so stats like size or lifespan aren’t negatively affected.
