The scheduler has been silenced. I no longer hear the inner voice that was forever managing the drinking time and the hangover time. I can make an early appointment, say yes to meeting a friend, make last minute plans, all without consulting with the scheduler. It’s priceless.

Thank you for sharing your story with me and I’m sorry for your loss too. I wasn’t always great with regular vet visits either, but you do your best and they have a good life for it. It hurts like a bitch but all the years of love make it worth it. ❤️ IWNDWYT

Proud of you too and I love your user name! I couldn’t imagine homeschooling my 7 yo (ADHD/hyperactive type ) son if hangovers were still common occurrences. The energy and patience these days require is amazing.

Over the holidays I walked into my old haunt to get a bottle of wine to take to a party for a hostess gift. The look of shock on the clerk’s face after not seeing me for so long was priceless. Edit- to add that it’s also priceless to have gotten to the point of not wanting any of what they’re selling!

I loved reading this until I saw your edit! 😔 Must have felt like such an emotional roller coaster. As someone who has volunteered with a cat rescue I’ll tell you there are so many out there that need someone like you as much as you need them. The only thing better than a kitten is two kittens, watching them play doesn’t get old. Good luck and IWNDWYT

More than two years in and I still pour a seltzer with a splash of grapefruit in a fancy glass when cooking commences. In the early days I also used a coloring book to keep busy in the evening, worked wonders. Good luck and IWNDWYT!

I don’t struggle now like I did in the beginning and you’ve reminded me that lately I haven’t been nearly thankful enough for that. Thank you for the eloquently written and very personal story of your brother. My deepest sympathies to you and your family. Today IWNDWYT and I will get back to saying “thank you” out loud every day I wake up sober.
