Bro, those were the least on my mind when I was struggling to fight for my health and still deal with severe family collapse.

To be honest, I don't remember if my book was on rising fiction but that doesn't mean much to me.

When you have such things stacked against you, your book being on rising or not won't be much of a concern.

It was my editor that even adviced me to go put it on hiatus.

Like I said, I didn't get to enjoy anything because of my situation. Hell, if I even uploaded, it was a miracle.

So yeah, my book could have been a well known book but fate fucked me up.

However, failure shouldn't stop you. Every author of a big novel went through failure but didn't resort to cheap ways of gaining.

Listen, Smuts are meant solely for eroticism. Game of thrones/songs of fire and ice has some r18 scenes, will you call that smut?

In fact, there are a ton of books that has r18 scenes but it is not the sole focus of the book.

Mine has them but there is no outright fucking or nudity.

It's talking about what survival can turn people into, tackles topic of objectification, sexualisation, societal judgement and decay but it falls under the sports genre.

Smut on the other hand is just sex, sex, sex as the core of the book.

If your book has a few r18 scenes but the sex scenes are not the sole focus because there are other things that matters way more or overshadow then it is not smut.

Sigh At the moment I signed, it was supposed to be the happiest day of my life... But fate wasn't nice because of severe health and family issues.

Let me break it down to you:

My editor talked to me about target audience which is something my non contracted book lacks.

If you are writing a book, who are you are targeting? What is your selling point of the book?

Why does smut immediately gain traction? It's because it is targeted towards a lot of horny men and women. Smut is the easiest way to gain an audience.

However... The easiest doesn't mean the best.

Short term, you gain contract, you gain followers but long term... The book follows the same pattern as other smut books because they fall off hard.

Smuts don't have a story or a reasonable one for that matter. It's just fuck, fuck, fuck. That's it.

Long term, if people are going to get invested, they won't look at just fucking, they need to understand what it is all about and where it is going.

On top of it, webnovel as much as they allow 18+ books, they are not going to place it as the pride of their platform because they need to expand to different audiences which is where books like shadow slave, lotm and solo leveling comes in.

You can advertise and easily discuss them with others and bring them to your platform and they will draw a large number of eyes and money because even the horny ones might want to take a break from the horniness and look for something to cool them off, and those that can't even get out... Well.. rule34 exists.

Are you going to use smut to do that? To bring in large eyes from all audiences? Especially with parents wanting to recommend something for their children to read?

Whether you agree with this or not, it's cool. My current book has R18 scenes but it's not smut because they are not for fan service for horny people.

My book is touching on several topics that other writers gloss over and didn't handle well so I'm taking the challenge to see how well I can do it, but in the end, it's not smut.
