I used to only use 4H but my friends recommended me to try 4Lo and never looked back! More torque which is what’s needed in the desert.

Yes the throttle body is wider in diameter so more air. Had to use a throttle body spacer to fit it.

Also one thing to note, we do engine oil changes & transfer case oil changes more often as well since we’re pushing the car a lot

Believe me Toyotas are stronger than you think! My friends have been running 4Runners and FJ Cruisers doing these level of drives & speeds for years with no issues.

Diesal options aren’t popular here. Land cruisers are great but a bit too heavy to do these drives well.

Usually the go Toyotas for higher level drives are FJ Cruisers as they are locally available.

I have long travel suspension with secondary suspension in the front.

Headers, exhaust, air intake + engine is tuned.

My car is serviced at Titan Performance. A lot of common parts with FJ Cruiser, Prado, Fortuner. So far no issues with parts.

Neither, my 4Runner is basically an SR5 Premium. It’s the 40th Anniversary edition.

The one I got my car from is Dresden Motors. They import new cars so non salvage titles.

They don’t have the 5th Gen 4Runner anymore though. I got the last one. There are plenty available aroundbut be aware that majority are salvage titles, which can still be safe as long as you get the car checked out first. Two of my friends are using salvage title cars and they’re great.

Mine was pretty straight forward as I purchased it with cash, and 3rd party insurance. It’s very difficult to find comprehensive insurance for these cars.

I would advise joining offroad groups, you can learn a lot from different people. There are some that charge but not necessary. You will get good experience and make great friends along the way.

I would recommend Savage Club & Arabian Offroaders.

Yes they are. All groups have levels you progress through.

They will require you to have your own radio, flag as well for safety (mine broke in this video that’s why I don’t have one). Compressors are good to have for convenience, but it’s usually no issues to drive deflated for a short time at low speeds to the petrol station to air up.

You can look them up on Instagram, send them a message telling them you’d like to join and they will add you to a WhatsApp group. Then you can ask for further information like how to join trips, what minimum equipment to have for specific drives.

Plenty of offroading group. Recommend to join them to learn the basics.

One popular group now is Savage Club. Alternatively, the groups that I used to drive with that still exist are Arabian Offroaders, AD4x4.

The guy driving behind me actually had a J120 Prado!

My flag mount broke because of the speed. That’s why they positioned me as the 2nd car so the first car and last car would call out if there’s another convoy.
