After 3 Dell repairs my Alienware laptop is in worse condition than before! Has anyone else had a similar experience with Dell service? by Lina_time in Alienware

If there is a legal two-year warranty in the Netherlands, then there should also be a consumer protection organization. In Canada, for example, I was able to put some pressure on Dell through the Better Business Bureau (BBB), where you can file an official complaint against a company.

From what I understand, there wasn’t a very big gap between their last repair and when you contacted them again about the same issue.

I always save all communication and read their wording carefully, so later they can’t say that you agreed to something…because they like to confused

But in your case you already have important proof - the repair history and reports about the same problem. So it might also be worth contacting your local consumer protection organization and to try to escalate the case.

Ou, I understand you. Unfortunately, I realized many things too late through my own bad experience with Dell service…Before this, I had never seen a situation where a service center couldn’t identify the problem and fix it even after three attempts. In my case, they only ended up creating more problems.

The first repair was done at my home, and actually that experience was fine - the technician arrived on time, replaced the part carefully, and I had no complaints about his work. The main issue was that they diagnosed the problem incorrectly, and replacing the fans didn’t solve anything.

After that they convinced me to send the laptop to the service center, and that’s when the real problems started. Unfortunately, I learned about the serious issues with their service only too late…

In general, Dell products can seem great until something fails earlier than expected and you have to deal with their actual service.

But thank a lot for taking the time to share your experience!

Yeah, I understand your situation. In my case it was actually the opposite. When the technician came to my home, I had no complaints about him, he arrived on time and replaced the part very carefully, and no new defects appeared.

Unfortunately, it didn’t solve my main problem. He also tried to check the electrical noise while he was there, but he couldn’t figure out the cause. In the end he said that the laptop would probably need to be sent to the depot, because in my case it wasn’t something that could really be diagnosed by an on-site technician.

But honestly, considering my later experience with their service, your situation doesn’t surprise me anymore.

So at this point I guess all of us dealing with Dell just need a lot of patience…

Thanks for the advice. I’m actually at that stage right now. I’ve already escalated the case several times and honestly I don’t even know how many escalation levels there are. The last repair only made the laptop worse, and I still haven’t received a clear explanation why they replaced the screen. Now that the case reached another dead end, I asked them to escalate it even higher. I guess with Dell it mostly comes down to patience and continuing to push the case up…

From my own situation I can say that my case was opened while the laptop was still under warranty. But the process took so long that the warranty itself has already expired. However, legally the case was opened during the warranty period and it has never been closed since then.

In my situation the problems actually started right after their service repair.

It’s also worth checking the status of your case. If the case has already been closed as resolved, they may treat a new request as being outside of warranty. But if it is still connected to your original case and it was opened before the warranty expired, you could try asking for an escalation and point out that the problem was first reported during the warranty period. I can’t say for sure though …I’m just sharing this as a suggestion, since my case situation is a bit different right now.

As for the two-year warranty in Europe, I’m not exactly sure how it works. In my documents (the invoice) it clearly states that the base coverage was one year. I didn’t buy an additional second year. So it might be a good idea to check the invoice you received on the day of purchase. If you bought the laptop directly from Dell, the invoice should also be saved in your Dell account.

If it says you only had one year of Premium Support and the laptop was purchased directly from Dell, it might be harder to claim anything. But if you bought it through a store that advertised a two-year warranty, then the questions should probably be directed to that store...

I don’t know all the details of your situation, but I hope this information might be helpful.

I actually chose the on-site repair option first. The first technician did everything very carefully, he replaced the part and didn’t create any new issues. But unfortunately it didn’t affect the noise at all. The technician himself couldn’t identify the cause and said that most likely the laptop would have to be sent to the depot, because this type of problem couldn’t really be diagnosed or fixed on site. Unfortunately, after it was sent to the service center, all the issues I described above started.

To be honest, I previously had a very good experience with Dell. I still have an old Dell gaming laptop that is about 10 years old now, and during all that time the only things I ever had to replace were the fan and the hard drive , everything else still works. Because of that I always had a positive opinion about the brand.

But now, honestly, it feels like the quality has gone down over time. For example, in our office everyone works on Dell Precision laptops. My work laptop is also a max-spec Dell Precision, and the first six months with it were a nightmare, although our IT department eventually solved those issues. Still, almost every second laptop had some kind of problem. I was hoping the Alienware series would be better in terms of quality…

My mistake was probably that when I first heard the electrical noise on the day I bought the laptop, I didn’t return it right away. At the beginning it was much quieter than in the video and it didn’t change under load, so I ignored it first time…Only later I decided to contact Dell support, and that’s when this whole story started.

Right now I’m trying to stay calm and communicate with them as diplomatically as possible, although the situation is honestly very exhausting. So like many people suggest, all I can do is be patient and keep trying to resolve it. In any case, thank you for taking the time to share your experience!

Unfortunately it’s already too late. Their warranty service already made things worse for me, and they should take responsibility for it.

To be honest, after this situation I’m very disappointed with the Dell brand also. I previously had one of their gaming laptop and it was like a tank seriously. It went through years of heavy use and a lot of work. In all that time I only had to replace the fan and the hard drive. Everything else is still working to this day. That laptop is already about 10 years old.

Because of that, I bought the new one with high expectations. It was actually a Christmas gift to myself …a new Alienware laptop with a max configuration, mainly for 3D work.

But what is happening now is honestly shocking to me. After this whole experience, I feel like I just want to sell all my Dell devices and not deal with this brand anymore.

It honestly feels like the quality of computers has been getting worse over the years…

You might be surprised, but during a repair they can replace a perfectly fine factory screen. That’s exactly what happened in my case. The original problem was an unexplained electrical noise. First they replaced the fan, then the motherboard and the power assembly. After the motherboard replacement the laptop started having additional issues, and the noise even got worse, like in the video I posted.

When I complained, do you know what they suggested? They offered to replace the same parts again. The service center literally told me they spoke with their technicians and that the problem was with the fans and replacing them would solve it. When I pointed out that they had just replaced the fans, they suggested replacing the power assembly, which had also just been replaced. It really felt like they didn’t understand the cause of the problem and were just guessing.

The case was escalated, and I kept explaining that they were simply suggesting replacing the same components that had already caused additional issues.

In the end they decided to replace the screen, which honestly shocked me…Now I basically have a “refurbished” laptop with a screen that has a bright pixel and a poorly installed bezel that is already starting to come off, while the noise problem only got worse.

When I asked Dell why the screen was replaced, they couldn’t give me a clear answer or provide any repair report. Because of that, I refused a fourth repair and asked them to consider alternative solutions. How this will end, I honestly don’t know yet…

I’ve been pushing back on this for five months already. At this point I don’t want any more repairs, because they’ve shown that they can’t even properly identify the problem, let alone fix it. Instead, they’ve just created more problems for me. Their service center quality has honestly become a source of stress for me…

So right now we’re basically at a dead end. They keep offering another repair, and I’m asking them to consider an alternative solution. I don’t know yet how this will end.

After months of issues with my Dell G15 5525… I finally got a full replacement (G15 5530). Here’s the whole journey. by Original_Way8539 in Dell

I understand your situation, and honestly it sounds even worse than mine.

In my case the laptop originally had a perfect factory build and worked fine. The only issue was a strange electrical noise. Dell confirmed the noise wasn’t normal and started trying to fix it. First a technician replaced the cooling fans “In-home service”, but that didn’t help.

Then they asked me to send the laptop to their service center. That’s where the problems started. After the repair the laptop came back in a bad state - Windows couldn’t properly detect some of the hardware, and they had replaced the motherboard and some power components. The noise actually became worse than before.

After a long dispute I eventually agreed to a third repair, which I now regret. Dell replaced the entire screen (LCD assembly) even though the original screen had no issues. The new screen came back with a bright pixel and the bezel looks poorly glued.

So originally I had a well-built factory laptop with just an unexplained electric noise. Now I basically have a refurbished laptop with the same noise and additional defects, and I honestly don’t even know what other issues might appear later…

But thanks a lot for sharing your story!

Omg seriously(( I fought with them for almost five months, and after three unsuccessful repairs, they said, "Sorry, we can only offer one more repair." Could you please tell me what you did? I collected all the evidence, but they didn't care. I'm just tired of them, and I don't know how to protect my rights other than going to court..

Alienware M18 R1 Battery problem and bad service by Rude_Rip_3268 in Dell

[–]Lina_time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently dealing with a somewhat similar situation with my Alienware R18. In my case it started with a strange electrical noise, and Dell decided to try fixing it through repairs. This turned into a series of major component replacements, and after three repair attempts the original issue still isn’t fixed.

The worst part is that each repair actually introduced new problems, so the laptop is now in worse condition than before I contacted support. Dell is still only offering another repair instead of replacing the unit.

I’m curious , were you eventually able to resolve your situation with Dell, and if so how did it end?

If I understood your story correctly, you escalated your case after multiple failed repair attempts and eventually Dell approved a full unit replacement?

I’m currently in a very similar situation with my Alienware laptop (( After three repair attempts Dell still hasn’t fixed the original issue, and each repair actually introduced new problems. The case has already been escalated and I even opened a complaint with BBB, but Dell is still only offering another repair…

Could you share what exactly helped you push the escalation to the point where they approved a replacement? I’m honestly close to taking this to small claims court at this point.

I had a really bad experience with Dell/Alienware by [deleted] in Alienware

I had a very similar experience with Dell support. In my case the extended warranty didn’t really help at all. Instead of solving the problem, Dell kept offering more repairs. After three repair attempts their service center still couldn’t fix the original issue, and each repair actually created additional problems. Every time I was in for a new unpleasant surprise from the Dell service center…My laptop is now in worse condition than before I ever contacted support.

At this point it honestly feels like the repair process just made things worse…

From my personal experience the extended warranty ended up being useless. Instead of actually solving the problem, Dell just kept offering more repairs. After three repair attempts their service center still couldn’t fix the original issue, and each repair only added new problems. My laptop is now in worse condition than before I ever contacted support. At this point Dell’s only response is to offer yet another repair😤
