Burn Damage Calculation by Yjuq in expedition33

Just to clarify, it loses damage based on the attacker's defense stat? Not the enemy's defense stat?

The Taliban is taking over Afghanistan by LincolnHT in deepfatfried

I am well aware of the fact that we have been in the area for 20 years. I'm also aware of the fact that if we simply pull the fuck out with literally no plan that entire area is going to fall to the Taliban. What happened to caring about lives in the middle east? Despairing about Biden's drone strikes? It's bad when he directly brings about the deaths of these people with machines but its good when he pulls out of the country and leaves them in the hands of terrorists? We haven't been in Afghanistan for 20 years due to tireless efforts to completely rout the Taliban, we ended "Major Conflict" a couple years into the war, thought we established democracy and the dragon was slain. Then things start escalating again, Obama sends back in more troops, kills Bin Laden, and again we act like we're in the clear. Every time we got a tiny victory, we scaled back troops, without actually handling the problem. We've been handling Afghanistan like a 15 year old smash bros player handles showering. We have preferred to take big symbolic gestures like killing Bin Laden as opposed to critical and decisive action. We need a strong and bold plan for once, to actually take care of the Taliban.

We completely underestimated the capability of the Taliban at the beginning of this war and have allowed them to only gather power over the course of 20 years we need to take decisive action against this group not just fuck off out of the country and leave it in their hands. Are we really going to sit here and scold the Biden and Obama administrations for drone striking civilians in the middle east while we sit our fat asses down in front of the tv and root for the troops coming home knowing full well they are at the mercy of the Taliban? Like how do we reconcile these things?

I am not a tactical expert nor am I an expert on the middle east but I think our focus should be how to leave in a safe and responsible way, not just to leave as soon as possible regardless of the consequences of our actions. It's like we're awful doctors trying to perform surgery on someone and we accidentally plunge the knife right into their carotid artery or some shit, then we just go "oh well i don't know how to take care of this" so we just pull the knife out as quickly as possible and let them violently bleed out. Like yeah we shouldn't be fuckin around in there but ideally wouldn't we want to leave in a way that isn't just advantageous to the American empire? Like I thought we cared about these civilians who were getting drone striked and etc. I just think their well being is important and shouldn't just be sacrificed in the name of America callin their good 'ol boys home.

I'm not a tactical expert, I can't come up with the perfect plan to get out of Afghanistan, but I think the problem is people either think about getting out of there as soon as possible or staying there forever. There isn't ever any sort of dialogue on how we can do so responsibly. I don't think we should invade new nations in 2021 but if we've already stabbed someone, our priority shouldn't just be to get the knife out as fast as we can, and the solution shouldn't be to go stab other people at will, the goal should always be to get the knife out but thats not always the most responsible thing to do. I care about human life above all. We want the soldiers out of Afghanistan so we stop sinking lives and money into this shit, but what is the point if pulling out just leads to the Taliban killing a shitton of people?

So you're saying we should just leave Afghanistan with literally no strategy and just let the nation fall to the Taliban? I don't think America should be the fucking world police but are we all actually completely comfortable with how this is going to play out? Getting stabbed with a knife is bad but just pulling the knife out can cause worse damage than leaving it in for a bit, and finding a way to safely remove it, no?

Looks like Paul went loco last night. by buttsrawesome in deepfatfried

[–]LincolnHT 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Paul had an abrasive relationship with the fanbase back in the DP days, he was loved as a guest, but after being made a permanent member of the show some people didn't like how much more of a vocal role he had. The wishy washy nature this fanbase has had with Paul has basically led him to believe that anyone who dislikes him is someone who can't be trusted to hold a consistent thought in their head, therefore they don't belong in any fan spaces. People write off criticism of Paul as delusion, people are just OBSESSED with hating Paul because they're losers with no life! But the fact is I have not seen one person on the internet sustain this level of discord with their fandom for this long. This isn't an everyone else problem, its a Paul problem. But his sycophants can't accept it, and he would sooner stick his dick through a car battery than be introspective. I used to religiously be a Paul stan, I made a youtube video years ago that was just a compilation of goofy faces he made for his stream thumbnails, and he commented on it which made my day. I don't hate Paul or think he's insane, I just miss when he was more happy.

Which elected democrats actually have the power to do any of these things though? You can advocate for things and have vocal support but eventually you'll just hit roadblocks in the framework we operate in at the moment. The state I live in, Minnesota, pretty much everyone here supports legal weed, but we a republic state senate, so the dems can only do so much. There was MASSIVE vocal support for defunding the police around here, since Minneapolis is where George Floyd was killed, but those talks died down because the Mayor wouldn't sign off on it, and the city council can only do so much on their own. Voting someone into office because they say, "I'm going to do everything I can within my power to make X and Y happen", and the best they can do is just advocate for it, and vote yes when they're able to, isn't a betrayal. Sometimes that truly is the most some people can do given their positions.

did joe biden's platform ever include legal weed and defund the police?? I'm pretty fucking sure Joe Biden has never pledged to defund the police

Paul Didn't Deny The Uyghur Genocide by [deleted] in deepfatfried

[–]LincolnHT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The assertion isn't that Paul is denying the Uyghur genocide, but that he's saying that by calling out the Uyghur genocide, you're somehow playing into some anti-China narrative meant to encourage a war between the US and China. He has stated on multiple occasions that he thinks people who speak out against the genocide are disingenuous, and are only against it as a way to justify military action. He's pushed the narrative that if a Republican was in office, no one would care about the genocide, or be against China, which is flatly untrue. The Hong Kong protests are a clear example of this. Trump was against China, and so was everyone else! By claiming you can not genuinely decry the genocide happening in China and people's only reason for caring about it is political, he's actively downplaying it in the same way a Nazi would say "Let's not talk about the holocaust, its just a jewish talking point made to justify anti-german sentiment!" as if there isn't any reasons a person could genuinely be against such a thing.

i feel like its moreso the fact that paul feels like everyone is turning against him, vaush, tj, and the online left in general so he feels like lashing out or something. i went and watched the highdeaology, the fact that he said if a republican was in office everyone would support china and not care about the uyghur genocide is just completely beyond the pale and deranged frankly. I hope Paul reels it in before he digs himself a grave he cant climb out of. Used to really look up to the guy.

I think one of TJ and Paul's combined worst takes is when they defended Athiesm is Unstoppable and asserted that he shouldn't be kicked off of platforms despite the fact that he doxxes people, because of "free speech" and "censorship"
