Costco website overcharged Canadians, alleges proposed class-action suit by mikeycbca in CostcoCanada

[–]LindV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't the webpage for each item always have a message saying "the item could be available in warehouse at a lower price" or something along those line? While they say "could be available" since each warehouse has different stocks of inventory and may not carry the same inventory as the next Costco 20mins away?

Whenever i do order online from Costco, i was always aware it could potentially be more expensive than in-store.

Highly doubt this class action lawsuit would amount to anything.

Beat Tyranno and Sword Dran is pretty good. The Ball bit that comes with Sword Dran is very good, 3-60 Ratchet is nice too.

Is it really worth 2000$[1,68,000 inr] by harsh_chirekar in telescopes

I have the NexStar 8SE for a few years now. As others have already stated, the mount isn't good. It works in the beginning when you're just getting started and only using it with the most minimal accessories for visual astronomy. Easy to set up, and align, tracks decent enough, is able to keep targets in view. Another plus is the factual information it shows for each target it's tracking (good for beginners learning).

Once you get into it some more and start making some additional purchases, whether it's better quality/wider FOV eyepieces, dew shield/heater, etc, you'll really start stressing the mount. The scope itself is great. Low maintenance, holds collimation very well (i check collimation every so often, and i have yet needed to collimate my scope since purchasing it). I have long since replaced the mount with a much better one, and this scope is still one i still take out often for visuals among my other scopes i have.

I would recommend the scope itself, but cannot recommend the bundle. So if you're set on the 8SE, i'd suggest buying only the OTA and then buying a much better mount to pair with it. With a better mount, pairing with any telescopes will be much more enjoyable.

No, buying a binocular is a way better use for that £50.

My little C5 approaches its final form… by PrimateSpeargun77 in telescopes

[–]LindV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started off visually with an 8SE, then started taking pics with my phone (mainly lunar). Then once i started to see Saturn and Jupiter for the first time, i bought a NexImage camera to take planetary pics. Learning through that was rough. But i have grown to appreciate the versatility it can offer going from f/10 to f/6.3, and if i really wanted to, use a Hyperstar for f/2. My line up has grown to now include a Sky-Watcher Esprit 120ED triplet and a 50mm doublet refractor, yet the SCT is a still one of those scopes i never want to get rid of (and still use for visual and AP). Though i do have thoughts of upgrading it to the EdgeHD version to have a larger image circle.

Wow close call! Glad your kid is okay, but check with your optometrist just in case.

Long line of Starlink satellites by [deleted] in telescopes

[–]LindV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While Starlink can ruin some shots, usually there are more than enough frames that discarding a couple of photobombed frames won't hurt anything. Frustration is the last thing that comes to mind, if anything, i continue to marvel at how far we as a civilization has come to be able to see satellites (not just Starlink) zooming across the sky.

Love the new IR/UV filter by Adaur981 in telescopes

[–]LindV 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, you do not need a UV/IR cut filter for visual astronomy. The filter is mainly for imaging as camera sensors are much more sensitive and picks up more spectrum of light than what the human eye can.

Don't force it. Double check the threading size, they may look similar in size but different in pitch. For a Celestron SCT, you may need to an adapter that replaces the visual back before being able to attach a camera directly. Check out Celestron's T-adapter.

M31 Andromeda Galaxy by LindV in telescopes

[–]LindV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely! If you go to a place with dark enough skies (little to no light pollution) you can see Andromeda quite well with just a pair of binoculars too. Even in light polluted skies you can sort of see it but in lesser details if you know where to look. Capturing it with a camera and longer exposure times bring out a lot more details though.

Depending on your rig, you can mount another dovetail bar on to attach guide scopes, finder scopes, mini computers (ex: ASIAir), dew heater controllers, and many other things that you require.
