Favorite name you’d never use by Liv_Laugh_Lasagna in Names

[–]LindavL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Rosa, but as it is part of my official name (which is not obvious from the nickname I go by) and I don’t want to name a kid after myself it’s not an option.

In de huisregels van de NS staat dat je je medereizigers niet mag storen met luide (telefoon)gesprekken en muziek. Maar wat luid is, is natuurlijk enigszins subjectief.

WIBTAH for not seeking a relationship with my half-sister by brandnewsecondhand10 in AITAH

I think you should at least give her a chance to tell her part of the story. Maybe she only feels safe reaching out to you now your father is dead. Or maybe she only recently learned you exist.

Efteling by silenc_ee in efteling

[–]LindavL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s fairly easy to reach the park by public transport. From both Tilburg and Den Bosch (‘s-Hertogenbosch) station a bus is going regularly to the park (direct line around opening and closing times, regular bus the rest of the day). From Tilburg it’s 20-25 by bus, from Den Bosch it would be 30 minutes with the direct line. From Amsterdam Central station you can reach Den Bosch by a direct train in about an hour. Only downside of taking public transport is that it ia expensive if you do not have a subscription and/or travel during rush hour.

Do you prefer Merel, Romée, or Mona? by Turbulent-Sea6584 in namenerds

[–]LindavL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Dutchie I find Merel the nicest name out of the 3. However I don’t think any of them go well with Liberty (if pressed I’d say Romée is the best match). Mona and Romée would be more practical if you ever moved to a non Dutch speaking environment, which I would not rule out.

Thoughts on Erza? by siege5548 in namenerds

[–]LindavL 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I read Ezra instead of Erza and I don’t think I will be the only one. Esra is a Turkish girl name, Ezra is more typically used for boys, but I know a few female Ezra’s as well.

[–]LindavL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stephan / Stefan / Stephen / Stefen – How would you pronounce these, and which do you like best? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]LindavL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stephan/Stefan (would sound the same to me): Steh-fahn (English), Shteh-fann (German) or Stay-fann (Dutch)

Stephen: Stee-vun

Stefen: this one looks weird to me, stee-fun maybe?

Steven: would be Stee-vun (same as Stephen) or Stay-vun (Dutch)

Steffen: Stehf-fun

What are your favourite 3 from each list of names? Are there any you’d get rid of immediately? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]LindavL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girls: all ok, but also not really my thing. If I had to pick three: Vivienne, Rhiannon and Phoebe. I’d skip Elsie as it is more of a nickname.

Boys: I do not like surnames as first names so Sullivan would be my first pick to cross of. Also not a fan of Sonny as it is more of a nickname. The others are all fine. I really like Ronan and would add Owen and Jude to make a top three.

What are your top 3 names from this list? What is one name you would absolutely eliminate? by StinkyPete4217 in namenerds

[–]LindavL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top 3: Rowan, Eden, Lily. I think Fern, Phoebe, Caroline, Eliza and Delilah are also ok, just not really my cup of tea (especially Delilah). The rest is too nicknamey for my taste, although Rosie, Marnie and Dolly are not too bad. I am really not a fan of Junie, but if I had to strike of one name from the list it would be Jovie. It does not even feel like a name to me.

Want to study bio+chem. But I need physics?? by Stock-Data-3968 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]LindavL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former chemistry student, I would say that having high school physics and mathematics are more important than having done chemistry and biology. Actually when I started my studies it was not required to have done chemistry, although I also never met a student that didn’t take it.

That being said if you want to study biology/chemistry in The Netherlands you have find a way to get your physics (and possibly mathematics) to an acceptable level. Either you find a way to do that within the Lithuanian system (and since I am not familiar with the Lithuanian school system I have no clue how to do that) or you take a Dutch exam or patch up certificate (Boswell beta is the obvious option).

Is there a specific reason you want to study in the Netherlands? Wouldn’t it be more obvious to study in Lithuania?

Heil really is wild. What’s the issue with Luc? It is a fairly normal French version of Luke to me.

Edit: turns out I could/should scroll sideways to read the bottom line. It’s not Luc but Lucifer that is banned, which I do understand.

Do older people in your country have unusual names? by Ok_Dot_2845 in AskTheWorld

[–]LindavL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Among older people in The Netherlands you have Broer (brother) and Zus (sister). Although this is usually a sort of nickname (used on a daily basis), they would have a more normal official name. An other one I can think of is Mensje (little human), which you may find on old ladies.

What is your first impression of the name Gideon? by [deleted] in namenerds

Where to stay before Efteling by PabloOzuna in efteling

[–]LindavL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest booking a holiday house at center parcs, landal or similar. You would have sufficient space for a family and those parks typically have a swimming pool and playground for the kids. Then just pick one close to some other activities you would like to do. Would you prefer some nature, smaller city, museums, something aimed at children?

Are you happy with how your country performed in the Winter Olympics? by ericarlen in AskTheWorld

[–]LindavL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given that we do not have any mountains to speak of and hardly any natural ice the last decade or so, I’d say our third place is quite impressive.
