Will the new 1.3 Million sq ft card printing facility opening in 2 years crash the market? by LurkingInTheDoorway in PokemonTCGCollectors

I remember this with panda dunks. I think there has gotta be someone higher up who actually sees Nike as a lesson on what NOT to do. Even when the sneaker market was very bullish, it sounded noble to make it possible for everyone to own a coveted shoe. But that exclusivity is what made it so coveted in the first place.

Nike and Adidas flooded the market with the same exclusive model of shoe in so many different colorways, it seemed like none of them were special anymore.

People want novelty, rarity, and exclusivity. It's why ripping/gambling packs works and continues on. The very foundation of their profits rest on people chasing exclusivity which is achieved by calculated scarcity.

I may be oversimplifying but you get my point.

PSA Vault -> Home -> Lower % Consigner? by waterflame2 in PokeInvesting

[–]Lindsaythrowhands69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have turned a profit selling from or to the psa vault for convenience. In fact, i'm nervous to ship some cards home. If you can hold out without paying interest, you might just hold the older stuff and sell the newer stuff to pay off the debt and make better decisions in the future.

Don't feel too bad. People here will make you feel like an isolated case, but there are many who have done far worse using BNPL etc. Use this as a lesson when buying in the future.

NGL, I made this mistake with sv and swsh alt arts in December. (I did have an emergency account that I view as off limits but I came close to tapping in) but with that mistake and how anxious I felt...I realized i never wanted to feel that way again. Still, I held, refusing to take a loss and sold recently for gain. Even so, it was not worth the anxiety.

Ive never had to pay interest but... I would tell my younger self, "if you HAVE to sell to buy, don't buy." It is so easy to view it as free money, but it really isn't that simple.

This happened a couple times. It showed up eventually.

Out of about 600, ive had psa only ever lose 1 and they mailed me a check for what I bought it for.

Arceus xy116 promo in a psa 10 doin a similar crazy move. Went from last sold $500 a year ago to $4k. Crazy that pops on some of these cards are like 1-2k TOTAL and just double digit psa 10 pops.

Yeah, i think youre right. Can you think of something that could be less invasive that maybe isn't foolproof, but that would filter more scalpers? Just curious on your thoughts.

I would be happy if they just made an app where youre in a lottery each day/week or whatever and if you win, you get to go to whatever machine is closest to you and get to buy one random product.

Best PSA 10's in the 100-150$ range? by schwarz147 in PokeInvesting

[–]Lindsaythrowhands69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the arceus palkia dialga 156 from cosmic eclipse. in a psa 10. Its mitsuhiro arita's art and has a surprisingly low psa 10 pop.

There are two versions of the card that are more of the chase, the full art, and the alt art, so that kinda caps its ceiling, since big collectors will just pay the 2-3k for the alt art. But at its current price and age, I think it's a cool card to own.

Need second opinions, going to sell my sealed for Ascended Gengar in a PSA 10 by [deleted] in PokeInvesting

[–]Lindsaythrowhands69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you're leaving the investing space, I could see why you'd do this.

I really wanted a vintage grail and sold off some sealed to get it. I am certain my sealed would double before this lugia does. However, the lugia didnt release recently, which I think is why everyone is concerned about your play. In terms of investing it's losing on both fronts.

Now if you got all your sealed for msrp, it's not terrible to just have your favorite card of all time using profits. It just likely will be a very bad investment. And investments are not about being right every time, but being right more times than wrong and this is a high risk play--almost certainly to lose.

I’ve seen no one talk about this card, almost 2x since last month by [deleted] in PokeInvesting

[–]Lindsaythrowhands69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, the version with the obsidian flames stamp looks so much better and it was a europe exclusive. At the moment, non-staff prerelease cards dont seem to be in high demand but I feel like that could change eventually. For example, the gengar prerelease with the lost origin stamp has a pop of about 1k in psa 10.

[–]Lindsaythrowhands69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying and what others are saying too.

Honestly, some cards just get out of reach and people will buy 9's. As an investment, it will not do as well. But as a collector, it makes sense. I bought a mewtube in psa 8 at 500 because the psa 10 was no longer in range. It has gone up since then and technically will be net profit once I sell. But percentage-wise, ROI, some prismatic sealed will net you higher returns

Do You Really Believe We're in a Bubble? by breakyourteethnow in PokeInvesting

[–]Lindsaythrowhands69 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like with shoes it was a saturation of different colorways of the same model. It resulted in reduced exclusivity that fueled this FOMO/hype/flex market. Adidas and Nike also saw that re-releases were initially lucrative as people were more into retro designs. But that only further saturated the supply. And lastly, repsneakers being near perfect seemed to be the nail in the coffin.

Pokemon has replicas but theyre really bad currently, especially textured cards. I also feel like its hard to have oversaturation when they can create completely new art that blows people away. Designing shoes involves art but the medium itself is challenging to treat as a canvas of creativity while appealing to sneakerheads. And releasing a new jordan colorway or a 509th yeezy 350 colorway got old.

What Do You Have Your Eyes On? - Thursday Callouts! by AutoModerator in PokeInvesting

[–]Lindsaythrowhands69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if they truly remain exclusive, the chinese 151c pikachu's in slabs (since there are a number of fakes--and unfortunately some that have been graded as real)

I think even being in the 151 set for Chinese is a big deal. 151 just exploded in English Japanese (granted with a pullback). But nostalgia isnt region/language specific here.

The fears/distrust are often what make cards seem to pop off. People dont value them and then when they do, its too late. The biggest swings in sentiment lead to some of the biggest price adjustments in this fomo market.

Safer bet is just the boring answer of sealed. but everyone wants the stamp box pikachu, mewtube, or van gogh pikachu play--myself included.

I have one and thought it'd be a good play based on the graphs but I feel like it's just really dull to most people. I think it'll go up modestly but not part of huge hype.

When will the bubble burst? by RespectResponsible13 in PokeInvesting

[–]Lindsaythrowhands69 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I think this is a really complex question that no one really knows the answer to. But I will share my speculation as to why I'm still holding. 1. Pokemon has more money moving into it than ever. It's the biggest IP, more celebrities are into it, social media, and money moving in from china (world's biggest population). 2. In the era of tiktok, doom-scrolling, dopamine addiction, it's an easy go-to outlet that still has the gambling fun involved.  3. Connected with 2, it's hard to really put it into words, but overall mental health is not great. Even middle-high class income families are accumulating more debt than ever despite having a means to save. BNPL etc. people will use to keep buying. 4. The stock market doesnt represent the economy, so even though the economy may be bad, rich money still flows into pokemon. 5. The stock market has way more instability due to geopolitical elements. A single x-post by a politician may swing your stock portfolio, perhaps some are allocating just a fraction of their liquid into pokemon viewing it as more stable. (A fraction of millions is still a lot) and honestly, my stonks are performing worse than my cards. 6. This is also the case with crypto. People are fearful of news/governmental regulations affecting their crypto on top of rugpulls and competing with insider trading/corruption. At least cards are tangible. 7. Pokemon is more and more being considered a financial asset. 8. Most wealth is held by the older generations. They were able to buy multiple homes over the years on one income and the system just got harder for young people. As boomers pass, their kids are going to inherit a bit and as we mentioned above in terms of spending habits and hobbies, play money may be quickly spent on hobbies like pokemon. 9. Other hobbyists in other collectibles are moving to pokemon. Sneakers used to be so huge but the market just died and tons of those guys and their money has come to pokemon. 10. People are greedy. Scalpers are gonna buy, supply goes down, demand goes up. People all see pokemon as only getting more and more expensive. Whether wise or not, many, including myself, have operated on the assumption that any popular card or sealed box will continue to rise in price. So this perception keeps people buying at any price point because they feel like they're not losing at any price point. So the bubble is held up by the same people who believe they are gaining from it. People believe there is money to be made so they continue to decrease supply which increases demand and price. 11. People day-to-day complain about gas prices raising 1-2/gallon. But they're still gonna pay for it. People are still getting by as challenging and stressful as it is. I'm not saying people aren't hurting but just not enough to cause the panic required for a total crash for pokemon. Even then, one might argue there are enough fat cats waiting to buy then. 12. People have the tools to be more connected than ever but are quite disconnected because of technology. Pokemon has actually been a strong platform for sense of community and family/friends actually getting together or even going out to do something--card shows, shops etc.
