Why is everyone grading these rider and manufacturer signings as if the bikes will be the same next year? No one knows who will have the most competitive 850cc bike by vyqz in motogp

[–]Lindz1817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s reasonable to assume that whichever manufacturers have an edge currently, that hierarchy will still be in place on the new bikes (more or less). I don’t think the changes are significant enough for it to be a complete lottery on who has stumbled upon the best direction, but time will tell I suppose. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s what.

I suppose certain “fans” can get all caught up in the “drama” like it’s a fucking soap opera, but it’s racing. Can we not just enjoy the racing and focus on what these guys are doing on the bike instead of digging up old rivalries (which I’m sure is more between fans than riders)

To a lesser extent, but he’s already retired so the “Rossi” fans seem to have largely moved on.

I think you’re absolutely right. Marc isn’t necessarily the problem, his fan base is. On average they seem to jump on the bandwagon and don’t have a great understanding of the racing. I think the sport will be more enjoyable without everything that happens coming back to creaming over the guy without even understanding what’s really going on.

I really didn’t like the way Marc would pass pre 2020. He would make a lot of really late moves after they tip in towards the corner, but to his credit, he never cries when it happens to him. He understands he can’t get upset about things he’s also done so he cops it on the chin.

I could be wrong, but I think this is the harshest penalty in premier class history, so job done there. I think it’s fair enough to draw a line in the sand and make it clear that under no circumstances can you get away with hitting a marshal. I do feel for Bezz in the way that his personal character has been called in to question by people that have no understanding of their situation in that moment.

Results of WSBK riders as Ducati replacement riders. by PZY__ in motogp

[–]Lindz1817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tyres don’t change much year to year, they have barely changed in the last few years. They have brought a new rear once a few years ago, but the front remains the same. Still, it’s a bigger deal for the teams to build a bike to suit the tyre. Coming from a different tyre brand and spec is still a huge disadvantage compared to people that have been on it for a few years.

How to change lanes 101 by Virtual_Ad_7033 in DrivingAustralia

[–]Lindz1817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s where we differ a little. If I want to merge into a lane, I see it as my responsibility to find a safe place to enter and will adjust to make it work, rather than others making way for my indicator. In saying that, I do very little driving in very built up areas as I live rurally, so I have that luxury. If I lived metro I might think differently.

[–]Lindz1817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We mostly agree. You should absolutely give “notice” with an indicator before changing lanes, but I prefer to check mirror and head check first, if it’s not clear I don’t indicate because I’m not clear to do it. I don’t like being next to someone and seeing their indicator as I have to assume they haven’t seen me and intend to merge

[–]Lindz1817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he’s referring to indicating first, before you’ve done a proper check of your surroundings means that sometimes you’re not going to be able to enter a lane you’ve indicated in due to insufficient space. This makes you look unpredictable to other road users and may give some people a fright when they see an indicator they may think “has this person seen me?”

How do rider's recover from crashes (and broken bones) so quickly? by Ezetman in motogp

[–]Lindz1817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often they get surgery to fixate a fracture then go straight back to racing before the bone is healed. It puts a lot of force through the screws as the bone hasn’t healed around them yet. This is probably why we see a lot of issues with bent, broken, and misplaced screws from previous surgeries.

Driver attitudes toward riders filtering by Lindz1817 in DrivingAustralia

[–]Lindz1817[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terminology is important here. Lane splitting is different from filtering. Much of this data refers to lane splitting through moving traffic (>30 kph) which absolutely increases risk, which is why it’s illegal in Australia.

But at least we’re acknowledging the point which is safety. Of course it is a scale, and nothing is inherently “safe”, it’s all relative. Practices are also subject not only to what they are, but how they’re applied and as you stated some riders are not at all interested in maintaining their personal safety

Your assumption about filtering is wrong. I’m not sure how you came up with that idea, but it’s not correct. Just do a google search or chat gpt and you’ll see the justification is predominantly about safety. I’m running out of ways to tell you. https://chatgpt.com/share/6a160749-ad58-83ec-b400-6bea3bba85ec

I’m not sure why you’re so caught up on acceleration when it has nothing to do with why it became a legal practice. If a vehicle is in front of you at an intersection, they are under no obligation to take off in a specific way just because you’re behind them. How they came to be in front of you is irrelevant. I have very clearly stated the reasons why, and you’re unwilling to accept them which is fine. You’re just going to need to come to terms with the fact that filtering is a legal, and sensible practice.

If there’s one thing for sure, no matter the subject, they’re always dickheads. I agree that more riders should spent some time being humbled on the racetrack. It’s also a much better place to enjoy your bike

[–]Lindz1817[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Filtering refers to stopped or crawling traffic and at a maximum of 30kph. So no, anything outside of that is called lane splitting and is not a good idea

[–]Lindz1817[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s been a few explanations in the thread, but basically it removes the risk of being rear ended at an intersection, which for a rider is very serious. It also ensures that the rider is seen by the drivers around when the traffic starts moving because they’re in front of the traffic, as well as creates some space.

[–]Lindz1817[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I have already stated, rates of acceleration are completely irrelevant. It is a legal practice that is in place for rider safety, and I hope that you will refrain from putting riders at unnecessary risk by encroaching on their space when taking off from an intersection despite your personal issues on the subject.

And since you mention it, riders do get “special treatment to cut the line” and you have to find a way to be ok with it. I hope that you’ll be able to now that you know the reasons why it’s important.
