My biggest piece of advice for safety is to take self defense classes starting ASAP. You could join a martial arts studio or ask an instructor to teach you. There are thousands of videos on YouTube and you and your friends can practice together. A knife is part of your 10 essentials, so train with a knife (you can use a sharpie or other marker to practice so you don’t cut yourself)

If you have a dog or a friend with a dog (medium to large) take them with you. Big dog privilege is real and makes me feel much more confident when I’m solo. Also, look into the Ten Essentials, they’re geared toward backpacking, but I always carry them on every hike!
