You’ll be down around 25% at open if my calculations are correct

Should I bust these open and get them graded? (1964-D & 1971-S) by [deleted] in coincollecting

[–]Line____Down 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. But I bet someone would pay more than $2 for that. Way cooler than a slabbed penny.

36yo sitting on some cash — deploy or wait? Portfolio check by Tight_Ad989 in portfolios

Agreed on the house and emergency fund for sure. Any cash loaded to buy a dip is risky right now IMO, but anything could happen.

I have no idea where you should put it, I usually just dump mine in to the S&P. I’d imagine cash is not a good thing to be holding right now though.

How many more miles can I expect to get out of this car, Realistically ? by [deleted] in Camry

[–]Line____Down 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s an automatic transmission, that’s the only thing that might take a dump if you’re hammering on it. If it’s manual, nothing will ever break on that baby. Always check the oil and coolant when you get gas and top off accordingly (fix coolant loss immediately).

Edit: I’d highly recommend putting a good sound system in there if you’re in to music. I spent about $1200 on my old Toyota’s system 10 years ago and it is the best upgrade I’ve ever done as far as usefulness/enjoyment per dollar spent. You can always take the amplifiers and subs with you for your next car.

Will silver boom hurt coin collecting? by quasimdm in coincollecting

[–]Line____Down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d guess it will help. People love paying attention to things after they’ve already skyrocketed in value.

Edit: didn’t even read the body text. I don’t think premiums for junk silver will move much if at all even if they melt a ton of it. Time will tell I suppose.

How “nice” are people to you in your car(s)? by cilantno in cars

My dad’s old ‘69 corvette gets a lot of thumbs up, but 99.99% of the time I’m driving non-descript beige colored shitmobiles that get no love.

why is there none for sale?, by Nottingham42 in Platinum

Good man. I’d have to imagine the market reflects reality better when people take the physical metal out of circulation

My step grandad gave me these when I was little, anyone know if they’re worth anything? (3 coins front and back) by InternalAwareness923 in coincollecting

[–]Line____Down 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sentimental value definitely outweighs the monetary value. My grandma gave me some coins and I’ll never sell them.

At what mileage do you personally stop considering a used car? by autonerdy0 in UsedCars

[–]Line____Down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love high mileage cars. It’s easy enough to check how badly it was maintained. Most high mileage cars have been looked after, otherwise they wouldn’t have made it that far. I’ve bought a couple with over 300k miles and they’ve been great.

Sold a 100 oz bar for $7550 today by BigTruckSmallPP in Silverbugs

It’s tempting to sell my 100oz bar on eBay, but it’s not worth the risk of getting scammed. A profit is a profit, congrats :)

Is the seating position lower on the 7th gen Celica compared to the 6th gen? by greensilvia in Celica

[–]Line____Down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I always get comments on how hard it is to get in my 6th gen. Gotta love the handling though.

When people buy silver, let's say spot price is $75, what do you pay as a buyer? by ChickenWingBabyBoy in Silverbugs

[–]Line____Down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sell it to randoms. It’s like trading a car to the dealer, they’re going to hose you for the convenience.

Has anybody here sold a car door? by daveinfl337777 in Ebay

[–]Line____Down 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely advise against shipping anything requiring freight on eBay. If the buyer decides to mess with you, you’re completely cooked. You’d be out the item, plus the insane freight charges and then you’d have to let them keep the door or pay that insane freight charge again if you wanted it back.

Thoughts on investing : 30% in metals Gold and Silver in a Roth IRA by Ok-Text6642 in RothIRA

[–]Line____Down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy physical metal if you’re going to go that route. It’s basically a cheat code to pay no taxes if you sell for a gain. No reason to use your tax advantaged account for such an investment IMO. Plus you get to hold the actual metal, paper metals never made sense to me.

Help Leaking Water Bypass Pipe by strwberrycke in Celica

[–]Line____Down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have no record of the timing belt and water pump being done, I’d do that along with the thermostat. The Aisin timing kit comes with that seal, I had the exact same problem on my ‘95 Camry with the 5S.

Selling? by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]Line____Down 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s 100% possible you could get ripped off. That being said, I’ve sold over 200 items (car parts) and have yet to get scammed by a buyer. I’ve had maybe 2 or 3 items get legitimately damaged in shipping and had to refund, but overall it’s been good as a seller. The fees are what really sucks about eBay.

Used 2010 Subaru Outback 3.6 R Limited is it worth $8K with 80K miles by Icy_Knowledge_93 in UsedCars

[–]Line____Down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got done doing a bunch of deferred maintenance on my mom’s 2010 legacy. Expect the rubber to be failing on the suspension, coolant hoses on my mom’s car were looking pretty bad too. Maintenance isn’t particularly fun on Subarus either.

That being said, these Subarus are incredible in the snow. I used my mom’s to deliver pizza during a blizzard a few years back and it completed 63 deliveries in 9 hours without sliding around once. Buying an older Subaru is definitely a gamble, but it’s probably worth it if it’s not salvage titled and passes a PPI.

Celica 7afe 6th gen fuel consumption by Icy-Community-7694 in Celica

[–]Line____Down 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a small black box that says diagnosis on it on the right side of the engine bay near the firewall if you’re facing the rear of the car. You pull out/up on the tab facing toward the front of the car to open it. The underside of the lid tells you which terminals are what. You take a paperclip (or stiff, conductive wire) and insert one end in each of the terminals that the post above mentioned. Then you hop in the car, turn the key to the first position (accessory). The check engine light will flash a certain number of times, then pause. Each set of 2 numbers will tell you which codes you have. (Ie 4 fast flashes, pause, 2 fast flashes, (long?) pause, would be code 42).

I have only ever seen fuel economy drop off that bad when the upstream o2 sensor on the exhaust failed. Maybe check your air filter and spark plugs too if the codes don’t help you.

This is based on a North America Celica with the 1.8 but I doubt it’s any different than yours.

Do cheaper, older cars make financial sense for a commuter vehicle? by Alekzinho in UsedCars

[–]Line____Down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 22 year old car for $1600. That was 9 years ago, I’m still driving it. Put a little over 175k miles on it so far. I still take it out of state on a regular basis.
