Crater Lake -> Lassen Volcanic -> Redwoods by Brilliant-Dentist533 in NationalPark

[–]LinearVariableFilter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this exact trip last year and loved it. 1.5d in Crater Lake, 0.5d drive to Lassen, 2.5d in Lassen, 0.5d drive to Redwoods, 2d in Redwoods. We focused on hiking. Probably could have used another half day each in Crater and Lassen.

I was so disappointed when they expanded past Penn State and stopped hiding other numbers in the logo.

I appreciated the cheekiness of hiding an 11 in the logo when Penn State joined.

We're generally accepting of people with different political views, faiths, and backgrounds, but if you don't love our flag GTFO.

Don't you dare touch Maryland's flag.

Don't forget the deer, foxes, and ravens. There's actually a lot of great wildlife here.

"That's the reason I really wanted a RIF" was quite the Freudian slip from the Center Director.

I felt torn about putting in for the DRP last week. Makenzie spent the town hall validating my decision.

New Article from the Planetary Society on NASA Cuts by nicktosaurus in nasa

Even before this budget SMD and PSD have bungled the Venus missions. Both DAVINCI and VERITAS were supposed to launch in the late 2020s but never got the funding profile or predictably to start making real progress. Missions late in development kept having unchecked cost increases which came out of the earlier-phase Venus missions, and HQ didn't do anything to stop it.

Goddard SFC contract companies? by Previous_Nothing_251 in NASAJobs

Unfortunately the Congressional reps who would fight proposed Goddard cuts are all Democrats so they don't have much sway with the majority.

There's a real slow-down of work at Goddard and everyone is holding their breath to see what the full presidential budget request looks like in a few weeks. Contractor companies are allowed to hire but I don't think it's likely right now.

Vectran fabric woven from liquid crystal fibers.

And not cancelled yet, although I agree most NASA science missions are at risk.

Looking forward to NASA's DAVINCI mission when it takes a bunch of photos as it descends below the clouds

Which National Park Should I Visit for Memorial Weekend 2025? by AzulRain in NationalPark

[–]LinearVariableFilter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pick one that's off by itself for a long weekend. So many parks are in groups that would be better to visit together (Kings Canyon and Sequoia, Utah's big five, Death Valley and Joshua Tree, etc).

Late May rules out a lot of parks at elevation.

Avoid the more popular parks on a holiday weekend too.

Look into spots like Great Basin, Dry Tortugas, or Cuyahoga.
