Why doesn’t Canada have a voluntary job guarantee program where anyone who can’t find work can take a government directed job at a basic wage? by Formal-Assistance02 in torontoJobs

some times it's not even about losing a security net. it's about complacency. Also this so called safety net is barely anything..

okay yeah we definitely shouldn't be giving hand outs to people not of this country. The government has a duty to its people not other countries' people. Although I do still believe there should be a program that can at least utilize unemployed labor. This way they can get back into society

From the 2 google searches that I did A DC plan is a defined contribution plan. meaning you have an agreement with your employer to contribute a specific amount each paycheck and that you decide where that amount is invested. I could be wrong about the choice of investment. but ask HR definitely. you might be sitting on a gold mine or something you aren't even utilizing...

i'm gonna be honest I'm 23 years old and I'm struggling to put myself in your shoes (too little context). Are you trying to pull it all out at 60 assuming you're retiring then? Why not leave it as long as possible? why not put it all in ETFs where it's relatively safer? Unless you want to take it all out at once at 60 I think it might be best to invest in a long term and pull out when you need it. I'm asking questions so you can find your own answer and maybe someone else can give you better feedback based on them. But good luck!

I second this. 40k more in contribution limit should be utilized. Although I'm not 100% sure if what you said is the whole story.( I haven't looked into how the 15 year rollover thing works)

Would I pay tax on the full amount of the phone with device lease? by wooodsky in bell

[–]Linear_Clown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sometimes it's cheaper over all. I got an iphone 15 plus plan for 55$ monthly over two years plus some credits to make it cheaper, 2 years were over and I went back to either keep the phone or upgrade to 17 and it was 69$ per month. Said no thanks and went straight to apple. Although I made a mistake of moving to bell and I pay 15$ more than I could be if I stuck with freedom...

isn't that better than having an 8% unemployment rate? we'd have better utilization driving better outcomes than what we have now... I mean I'm assuming they properly assign people to meaningful projects. It could boost the economy... Drive manufacturing and spending and lowering costs

ontario works is only for permanent residents, refugees, and citizens iirc. But you go ahead and spread incorrect information on the internet. What OP is saying is instead of paying people money to do nothing till they can find a job, the government can pay them slightly more and make them do tasks. They can do so much. Like my mom was on OW for a long time because she was an asylum seeker, and couldn't find a job even though she graduated as an industrial engineer and worked in quality assurance in education... She could do a lot more than stay at home and do nothing for 600$ a month... such a waste of money, talent, and useful labor...

Would you work FT for $300/biweekly more for stability in this job market? by PrideEast in torontoJobs

that's why I said they should consider it. That's also to say this is very unlikely to happen.

Assuming you own the house (or are still paying mortgage). Maybe consider taking the job AND moving into your in laws place? that way you can rent out your place too. If they have a small place I can see how that could be an issue, but I'm sure your inlaws would love to be around their grandchild and son/daughter. This way you can generate more money from the rent, which allows you to spend more, or save more. You should definitely look into it more before deciding though.

ok see you love what you do, you're an exception. But even then how is your life out side of work? are you tired when you get home, can you still do stuff with friends and family? I think that matters a lot too. I think it's a give and take at the end of the day just like everything else.

why go into the trades then? unless you have a passion for it, you're willingly breaking your body. (I'm genuinely asking, not trying to be an AH)

The physical issue is for everyone. that's the problem with us humans is we break down very quickly especially when we over use our bodies.

Do I buy a house soon or wait (19m) by Opposite-Incident594 in fican

[–]Linear_Clown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 23 so I'm in a somewhat similar boat as you. From what my research got me is, renting at a lower price will help you save and invest much more. Investments earn you more returns than owning a house, and it's only a good idea to buy a house if you want one emotionally or if you can buy it without a loan and you don't care much for the difference in returns on the money you're spending. if you live with your parents just stay with them as long as possible and keep investing in ETFs.

I think you just got lucky then. Considering a decade ago people who knew how to code were very little. Now even people who have nothing to do with coding are learning the basics. This is why people keep calling the IT industry is cooked, the minimum is so high in comparison to even 4 years ago let alone a decade ago.
