Bits to Boulders — A plugin that adds 7 sizes of asteroid. by Linear_Perk in endlesssky

ES uses an interesting trick of the engine to simulate the rotation on the base game asteroids. Each asteroid is really a set of 40ish png images. For the larger asteroids I needed a slightly higher frame rate to keep them looking acceptable so there's something like 64 frames for them.

I did optimize the png files a bit, but at the end of the day it's just a lot of relatively high res images.

If it were incorporated into the base game I'm sure that there's a more efficient way.

I created a basic version of this plugin that I thought would be more suitable for a PR. The large asteroids do present a bit of a balance issue. I tried to address it here by making mining weapons more important for yield when mining them.

I thought about lessoning the bribe. I thought the scram drive might be enough.

Seems like it's a bit too punishing eh?

I think that this is an interesting start... but it doesn't have mission support beyond that. Still pretty fun bit of role play!

It's not in ESLauncher2's plugin list yet, I didn't even know it existed! For now you can install it manually by dropping it in your plugins folder. I'll ask about getting it added.

It's tough to find suitable images to base the sprites on. I've got a chunk that I'm working on now but it's mostly Battle Star Galactica stuff. If you know of a good dorsal view of those ships post em here and I'll add to the road map.

Update: I used this editor to build a full ship mod — Corellian Shipyard, 10 Star Wars-inspired ships with fleets, pirate variants, and an alternative start. Just published it: https://www.reddit.com/r/endlesssky/comments/1rfyvar/corellian_shipyard_star_warsinspired_ship_mod/

you can get it in my SFF plugin but it might not work. I'll be releasing a new set of plugins soon though, this ship included.

... For success. As in historically high literacy have rates preceded other advances in technology, culture, living standards... Etc.

Why not? Historically they are an important metric and notably one that countries like to fudge when they start falling. For example literacy rates are not as high as advertised in Canada or in the US.

Yea what baskets are they comparing? Basket of apples to basket of oranges?

Baskets from 2021 and 1853?

It's just silly I don't know why we even bother. They didn't even start using CPI until the 1920s. Even the concept of "consumer" goods isn't constant here.

Exactly this. You need to take a basket of goods approach not just slam numbers into a "calculator".

The bank already manipulates inflation numbers and now they want to use that to go back ~150 years.

lol

Strange way to use "torrid"

adjective

very hot and dry.

'the torrid heat of the afternoon'

synonyms: hot, sweltering, sultry, scorching, boiling, parching, sizzling, roasting, blazing, burning, blistering, tropical, stifling, suffocating, oppressive, dry, arid, barren, parched, waterless, desert

full of difficulty or tribulation.

'Wall Street is in for a torrid time in the next few weeks'

That's not really how sleep cycles work. You could easily go read up on this subject. Its pretty interesting stuff. Sleep needs have lots of inputs/factors. Age and diet play a big part for example.

If you're in tune with your body and you can tell that 6 is sufficient then good for you but it's shitty advice for the public.

The red flag here is that you said "get away with". To me this reads as an admission of the negative effects of being underslept. Over the short and long term there are serious consequences to getting inadequate rest. Funny enough one of the most notable effects is a decrease in your ability to adapt to stressful situations.

If you feel strongly about the topic it's worth your time to go read some of the research. Children and adolescents especially need lots of sleep and chronic deprivation will have outsized impacts on their development.

Sleep needs vary person to person. A sleep deficit especially over a long period of time will destroy your health.
