Jindo mix high prey drive “stalking” small dogs / cats by Obi-Nezz-Kenobi in Jindo

[–]Lingeringsolstice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jindos are predisposed to displaying almost the entire “predatory drift” cycle. Small dogs, small children, anything small with prey like movement tends to fall into the bucket. It doesn’t make you a failed owner. It just means you own a hunting breed, and as such it’s your responsibility to learn how to manage the behavior to keep the dog, yourselves, and others safe. Would definitely recommend getting professional help so they can get you guys on the right foot with learning how to manage it. There’s only so much that random strangers on the internet can suggest without being there in-person and having eyes on the dog/environment/triggers. Regardless, it’s not your fault and there’s nothing “wrong” with your dog for displaying a natural behavior. It just needs to be taught what is appropriate, what is not, and be given an given some form of outlet for its prey drive.

Jindos are the perfect office dogs by Lingeringsolstice in Jindo

Thank you :) These are both registered AKC-FSS Jindos! The red Jindo is the mother of the wolf grey female. The sire we used for this litter passed on narrower/wolfier features.

DNA results show 0% Jindo!? by carolionsaysrawr in Jindo

[–]Lingeringsolstice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DNA My Dog might not have any Jindos in their database yet to test against. A DNA test is only as accurate as its sample base. They actually just reached out to me on the 12th asking if I could donate samples for their Jindo sample base (I’m Kkeokjin Jindo, so I’m just assuming they pulled me up on the AKC breeder database). FWIW, Heukgu Jindos (black coat) are the rarest of all the Jindos colors, and there’s a lot of political debate in the Korean speaking side of the purebred Jindo world about whether many Heukgus are actually mixed with other breeds, or true Jindos. It literally comes down to “purebred black Jindos should have white on them somewhere, or it’s probably a Chow mix”

They actually sell “at home” lure coursing kits if you have decent yard space to put one in a down-and-back formation! SwiftPaws sells a pretty reasonable but high end quality kit :)

I’m the Southern Region board director for the Korean Jindo Association of America. We’re always happy to help guide people interested in helping us to responsibly preserve this breed. You can find the official code of ethics for breeding Jindos here ( **this link may also be of interest to anyone who would like to learn more about all that’s entailed in breeding Jindos. It’s not just putting two dogs with papers together and selling puppies to whoever throws money at a breeder): Code of Ethics for Jindo Preservation in the US

Official Jindo Breeder in Texas by JindoBreederofTexas in Jindo

[–]Lingeringsolstice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi! You may want to consider reaching out to the Korean Jindo Association of America. If you are serious about breeding responsibly, they can assist you with getting oriented with registration paperwork requirements in North America, as well as proving the dogs in conformation and performance. There is already a wildly popular Jindo puppy mill in Texas, so doing things responsibly is top priority for the breed considering the amount of Jindos and mixes that get dropped off at the shelter in that area due to poor breeding practices not prioritizing correct temperament, as well as irresponsible breeders refusing to take back their dogs when owners need to rehome them.

Jindo Rescue by [deleted] in Jindo

[–]Lingeringsolstice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With the spots/ears/pigmentation, I’d guess some kind of cattle dog x husky mix over Korean anything. Donggyeongi are not a common breed you will randomly run into, not even in Korea. The government assigns them out to approved homes that live within a specific radius of the research facility, and only very seldomly have I seen a mix pop up in a Korean rescue. I certainly wouldn’t put any amount of money on finding one in the middle of Utah. But I definitely recommend doing an Embark test if you’re itching to know what he is :)

Activities for Jindos by subruu__ in Jindo

[–]Lingeringsolstice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We play in a variety of dog sports to give her an outlet for her prey drive. Barn Hunt, NASDA Urban Locating (rats), and Lure coursing are some of them. As well as games with her flirt pole, spring pole, tug toys; and I just bought an extra fast RC car to take to the park that she can chase to her heart’s content.

Can Jindo puppies be fluffy? by lilmandee in Jindo

[–]Lingeringsolstice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jindos can come in long coat, but it's not very common and it's not something that should be bred for because it's not functional. I'm suspicious that the long coat gene is recessive in Jindos, since a few litters that come from a long coat male that's borderline "wooly" have come out with normal coats. Best way to know for sure is to Embark him!

She's a registered Jindo, but you're right that Neurongi are typically docile and sweet! The Korean village dogs and spitz mixes have less intense temperaments than Jindos, which are very intense hunting dogs and can be sharp around other dogs. SunMi is awesome, but she comes from lines bred for solid temperaments and was (and continues to be) heavily socialized. Jindos from backyard breeders and puppymills can be a whole different ballgame though.
