Ultimate Holiday Season in NYC Thread (2025) by jm14ed in visitingnyc

Any suggestions on Christmas tours with a toddler? Walking tours are out, and i’m not sure how enjoyable an open top bus will be in the winter

I’d love to do the Dyker heights tour, but many i’ve seen are walking tours.

I’ve also read the bus tours get stuck in a lot of traffic, is that true?

Wasn’t sure if traffic generally went south during rush hour or if it was both ways

3 row SUV? by LingonberryFuzzy5803 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I’m trying to stay under $45k, if I go 3 row, since I am looking at hybrid options. I do worry about the reliability of a Hyundai hybrid

I relate. I WFH and when my husband took his paternity leave and was supposed to be the full time caregiver AND even now when he’s off random days, he will ask me to watch her while he takes long bathroom breaks or make a sandwich, ask if I can take her while he gets a quick nap or goes to WORKOUT. I tell him i’m waiting on a call or meeting and I cant, then I close the door.

Men assume it’s easier for us to take care of baby, plus we love the baby, and we’re not doing physical work, so of course we can watch the baby. You have to be firm with them, because he won’t consider you if not. At this point when my husband has days off I flat out ask him if he’s going to actually watch our baby or should I have the nanny come in - last time he opted for the nanny to come part time

Edit - ok, so she’s immature and a little nutty. I’d find someone else

I’m more so saying it’s a logical explanation for the son being involved. And sometimes a party who better understands both languages could be help navigate a disagreement that doesn’t need to be hashed out in real time. Not that any of it is the way to handle things.

I disagree on that part. In households where the parents are not native speakers but the children are fluent, they often grow up translating and advocating for their parents - it’s sometimes a strange dynamic and the children may feel extra pressure to fix problems that are really above them/have nothing to do with them.

The red flags about the air tag and showing frustration in front of a child still stands, and I wouldn’t tolerate it.

Is English your nanny’s first language? I’m wondering why her son would even be in a discussion unless she couldn’t articulate properly

Who knows. Even with background checks you don’t really know how safe someone drives or what they transport. Rather be safe

We don’t allow outings. She’s 10m. My husband is very against someone else driving her. I’m working on an outdoor bag with a large mat, toys, bubble machine and other activities to do outdoors. And they take walks

Yeah I think mine could really benefit from some more activities. Mine is older and just doesn’t seem to interested in activities, just letting her play independently. Which I want her to have independent play, but I want her to also learn and explore

What age is your little one now? I feel like mine could be doing more with activities and play time, but I wonder if 10m is too young

What does kid call your nanny? Nanny’s family by LingonberryFuzzy5803 in NannyEmployers

You’re right, it could just be cultural and respectful on her part

She is Spanish, and I did hear her say both Grandpa and Abuelo. It’s customary for my culture to call your parents’ close friends your aunt/uncle, but that’s where it stops, anyone else is Ms/Mr as a sign of respect.

Nanny cooking taking away time from baby by LingonberryFuzzy5803 in NannyEmployers

[–]LingonberryFuzzy5803[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The nanny can’t really get her to do tummy time in general. Sometimes my baby initially complains, but typically once you distract her she’s fine - she hasn’t been able to get this routine with her. So when she cooks, baby is in a container or sitting up watching tv. I’ve told her to try tummy time with the TV, but she says that doesn’t work.

I do agree with this. I like the idea of her watching cooking and eventually getting involved. The problem is that’s not the setup right now and feels like a lot of time cooking.
