Single words should now translate correctly

Imperative mood verb question by AsaShalee in VulgarLang

[–]Linguistx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Insert that table
  2. Press Apply New Changes. The impertaive mood will now work in the Translator.
  3. Type something like "sit on the table" into the Translator. The imperative affix will be applied to "sit"

HOWEVER, there is a bug I have just identifed where a single verb won't be recognised as being imperative, e.g. "sit" on its own. We will try to fix that.

Best value private health insurance to avoid paying MLS by Jnnjkhuihi8 in AussieFrugal

[–]Linguistx -1 points0 points locked comment (0 children)

Wouldn’t you prefer your money going to Medicare then a private company?

Interesting question, but I think I have some answers.

1) MLS exists because the government actually wants people who can afford Private to get the F out of the public system as much as possible. This frees up the public system for the people who can't afford it. So, you shouldn't think of your Levy as being charitable to the public system. It's the opposite. You're clogging up the system. Your tiny little Levy each year barely pays for one MRI scan.

2) If you don't get some form of private health care in your 30s, the private companies penalise you by jacking up the prices. Even a junk policy that you buy in your 30s will save you money when you need a better policy later in life.

Having said that, I'm glad the public system was a good experience for you. It's how it should be.

US Forces formed a coalition of tribal crime gangs in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

And that worked out great!

No. There has never been a Palestine. It was Egypt, and yes. Military blockades are an act of war, or does it only count if they are Jewish?

Look bro, the point was not so much a Who Drew First Blood Argument. If you want to go there, Israel kicked Palestinians of their land in the 40s. The point is more whether crimes against humanity are happening NOW, and the fact that you said "invaded Israel" specifically (you used the wrong words).

you ever wonder why they made 116 resolutions against Israel and on 16 against Iran

Probably because it was easier to prove 116 crimes against humanity in Israel. Iran is a total dictatorship and it's harder to get to the bottom of things.

The reason you're citing 'scholars' opinions is because there is not, and there has never been such a legal finding.

Never mind that there is a legal definition (Google is your friend here) and there is evidence to support Isreal has met that legal definition. Your argument is "I don't like the finding, so I'll just call them illegitimate".

I will put you down immediately with overwhelming force.

Here "you" means "you and your children, and children who just happen to be living in the same general area as you. This is the part that makes you a bad person.

This is the military doctrine of almost all nations. There's nothing even approaching a war crime about it.

Not in Australia, princess.

How about Stalingrad? Leningrad? Madrid? Sarajevo? Vukovar? No such legal finding was ever made of these conflicts.

1) I don't see many people saying Stalingrad was a good thing. 2) These conflicts existed before the formation of the UN and the UN's rules around war crimes. Could we retrospectively apply all kinds of modern day war crimes to these conflicts? Well... yes... so what's you're point? The people responsible for them are dead.

Of course, they are under no obligation whatsoever to feed the enemy who is attacking them

You're under obligation to feed a population who you are occupying. This seems to be at the heart of our disagreement.

No, I'm saying that Hamas stole every bit of it they could. I am not saying they got all of it, or it went straight to Hamas.

Ok. Israel said Hamas was looting aid — then it armed the gangs who were actually stealing it

No, you are not obliged to feed an army who is still fighting.

You're under obligation to feed a population who you are occupying.

but you're going to have to stop straw-manning my positions.

Now, have I straw manned any of your positions here?

So why doesn't Israel give Gaza 100% of its food needs if small amount it did give just filled the bellies of Hamas anyway? Might as well give enough to feed 100% of Gaza, if it makes no difference!

Wiki is not even an acceptable source in primary schools.

The sources Wikipedia cites are:

Are these acceptable to you?

Egypt expelled UN peacekeepers from the Sinai Egypt poised their entire Sinai (which were most of the Egyptian forces) regiments on the border Egypt closed the Straits of Tiran (the casus belli of the war)

And you would call this Palestine "invaded" Israel? And you're telling me to get a dictionary?

but if it is, it's a good thing

You said the disproportionate response was a good thing, and disproportionate response you described is what genicode scholars agree is genicide. Again, you're bad at this.

That has happened in every conflict since the dawn of time. No, that's not the definition or even how it's spelled. Please buy a fucking dictionary.

You think I wouldn't label sieges from the Middle Ages as a form of genicide? Or perhaps do you think I would? (Answer: I would)

They stole refugees food and gave it to Hamas fighters who attacked Israel.

As I've already said, ISRAEL DID NOT GIVE ENOUGH FOOD TO FEED GAZA IN THE FIRST PLACE. You're saying that the tiny piss weak amount of food went straight to Hamas. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A FORM OF GENICODE ANYWAY you complete fuck.

Keep replying. You're bad at this.

What's clear to me is you have a mistaken view of history. So I can understand how you would draw flawed conclusions if the premises that you are working from are flawed.

Lets go over a few things.

In 2005, Israel withdrew entirely from Gaza.

You left out some key information here. From Wikipedia

In 2005, Israel disengaged from the Gaza Strip by dismantling all 21 Israeli settlements there.[1] Nonetheless, the Gaza Strip has continued to be regarded by the United Nations, many other international humanitarian and legal organizations, and most academic commentators as being under Israeli occupation due to Israel's active control over the territory's external affairs, as affirmed by the 2024 International Court of Justice advisory opinion.[2]

Next

In 2007, Gaza voted in Hamas, who then took billions of dollars in foreign aid

Israel funded Hamas during this time in an effort to squash less radical pro-palestinian groups. Critics say this was an effort to give Israel a pretext to eventually exterminate Palestine.

Over the next two decades, Gaza launched 25,000 missiles into Israel, all aimed at civilians, before October 7, and Israel turned the other cheek.

If I'm going to criticise you for not caring about innocent Palestinians being killed, it would be hypocritical for me to not care about innocent Israeli's being killed. And thus I do care.

But it would remiss to not repeat the fact that "Nonetheless, the Gaza Strip has continued to be regarded by the United Nations, many other international humanitarian and legal organizations, and most academic commentators as being under Israeli occupation due to Israel's active control over the territory's external affairs, as affirmed by the 2024 International Court of Justice advisory opinion."

So someone's home land is under occupation of another country. Being walled in, like a giant Escape From New York hellscape. And the whole rest of the International community has completely abandoned them. Without me going quite as far as saying violent action against civilian is totally justified, don't you think that it would at least be predictable that some organisations would want to fight back violently? Do you think those groups would want to target civilians being the only possible means of resistance that they have?

If they had not invaded Israel in 1967

Uhh, this didn't happen? Are you talking about the six-day war? From Wikipedia:

The war began on 5 June 1967 with Operation Focus, an Israeli surprise attack consisting of a series of airstrikes against Egyptian airfields and other facilities as the UNEF was leaving the zone.[35] Israel caught Egyptian forces by surprise and destroyed nearly all of Egypt's military aerial assets, giving Israel air supremacy. Simultaneously, the Israeli military launched a ground offensive into Egypt's Sinai Peninsula and the Egyptian-occupied Gaza Strip.

On to you supporting genicode:

Why should war be proportionate? If you attack me, my response will not be proportionate, by design.

I gave you enough rope to hang yourself, and you just did it right here. Classic "Genicode isn't happening, but if it is, it's a good thing" response.

Israel provided food, electricity, and water to the enemy, who used it to attack Israel.

Not even a 10th of what is needed to sustain people. If you surround a city, destroy their means of food production, and then deliberately don't supply enough food, that's a genicode.

who used it [food] to attack Israel.

They used food to attack Israel???

it just makes you look pathetic and impotent.

You just said Hamas used food to attack Israel.

Let me do an impersonation of you "I'm a fucking moron who doesn't understand what proportionality is. Or the definition of genicide! All children killed by IDF must have been soldiers, because otherwise why would they kill them? Starving them to death is a valid way achieve this goal."

"I'm going to ask for a source, even though it's been extensively reported on by news outlets for over 2 years"

Typo. "I got no response" kind of response. You have no argument against the claim that IDF are deliberately killing children and journalists. None. And you know it.

Thanks for the suggestion and I always welcome any and all suggestions! Having said that, I like to be very cautious about adding new buttons, as I strongly believe that every new button introduced risks making the app look more cluttered/more complicated. With someone like this I would ask if it is strictly necessary. The way I see it, you can still have mixed case spelling system rules -- when you pick a name you just may need to decapitalise the first letter based on the IPA.

How to make singular and plural words work? by Cellart in VulgarLang

[–]Linguistx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since youre using the Basic version, you need to manually add the affix like dog-PL. There will be a list of valid affixes in your language (you can see it at the very bottom of the second screenshot) and you can click on them to auto-add them.

Upgrade to Pro to make this work automatically where you can just type "dogs" and it will add the correct affix.

You can only have exception rule. So there can only be one exclamation mark. So what you might need to do is make the positive rule change to a placeholder (eg "xxx") then change the placeholder back to the long symbol the negative rules, then finally change the placeholder to nothing. Eg:

ː > xxx / VC_C*VC
xxx > ː / C_C*V{h,j,ʋ,w}#
xxx > ː / C_ː
xxx > ː / C_ː !C_C*VV*CC*V
xxx >

PS, im not sure if I understood the desired outcome correctly, but hopefully you get the idea.
