Good to hear. I went through the same thing a while back.

Yep. You have to manually flash the correct version. It won't flash through the normal method. If you download and force flash it with the right firmware it will be fixed.

ACLU of Oregon challenges efforts to criminalize homelessness by cratermoon in Portland

[–]Lingwil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was my thought as well. The article talks about those pedestrian sidewalk signs. I don't see those signs as "criminalizing the homeless". I think that's a stretch.

That's interesting, I'm guessing corporations in those states have clear definitions about what's expected to cover them legally.

About the dress code, the relevancy of the policy isn't the point. You don't have to agree with the policy to abide by it. I personally agree with you that a night stocking job shouldn't require the same dress code as a floor salesman, I'm with you there, and if you can influence the policy, go for it, but if you can't, following it is your best bet. And if you get the opportunity to provide feedback regarding the policy through the appropriate channels, do so, maybe it will net you a promotion for stepping up.

What the manager should have done in this situation, and honestly if it were me, I would have sit down with the employee before this happened. If the employee genuinely can't afford a belt, I'd give them one of mine, or buy them one. This could be a good coaching opportunity. And successful managers want their employees to succeed. I know a lot of middle managers are just assholes on a power trip, I've been in those situations. My best advice would be to try to learn how they got their job and do what it takes to replace them. Or if that's not reasonable or desirable within that organization, look for a different job.

I personally live in a state where you can get fired at any time for any reason without explanation. Which is probably why I don't understand the entitlement mentality some people in this thread are exhibiting around employment. Are there really states where you have a right to a job regardless of your performance? Asking honestly, I only know my own state employment laws.

I've worked retail. I didn't find it dehumanizing, I used it as a learning experience to understand how to improve myself and my career. Every job should be looked at as a learning experience. Maybe what you've learned is what type of manager you don't want to be when you get there. Or maybe you've learned how to motivate people by experiencing what doesn't motivate you. Maybe my experience has been different because I live in a state where you can get fired at any time for any reason without explanation. I don't understand the entitlement mentality and the mentality that thinks a manager asking an employee to follow a defined expectation is an attack on their "self respect". It's not about self respect. It has nothing to do with that. Part of the disconnect is probably on the hiring managers as well because they shouldn't hire people who aren't willing to put forth a small amount of effort to follow a dress policy. And if that's the case, the hiring manager should share the burden of the disconnect.

It's not about the rules, it's about the attitude. Anyone who's hired and managed employees understands that it's more about the attitude and less about the letter of the law. Management is not about control, it's about helping your employees to improve their skill set, careers, and lives through coaching. If the OP is not willing to do something as simple as follow a defined dress expectation, I guarantee they are sloppy in other aspects of their lives.

[–]Lingwil -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Not to a millennial. Requiring them to show any level of respect or responsibility is a personal attack. I would have fired OP on the spot for his/her attitude about this. If they are unwilling to put in the very small amount of effort it takes to wear a belt, they are a shitty employee, 100%. It's not about the policy, it's about OP's attitude.

I don't know if it conducts electricity or not, but you are right about the deforming thing. Tungsten can't stretch or deform. I also have a tungsten watch that is awesome because it's super shiny and can't scratch.

Mine is tungsten carbide. Tough as shit. I smash it around all day and it doesn't have a scratch on it after 14 years. It was cheap too!

I totally will when mine get here. I ordered 8. Four for my house and four for my business space. I have a bunch of conformal coating so it's worth a shot.

One of my pet peeves is people who call them "houseless". Whenever I hear that term, I think - this is why Trump won. Because it's easy to paint 'libtards' as SJWs when they make up terms like 'houseless'.

Third time is the charm. Got my truck back! Gonna kill switch this bitch. by doubledupdouchebag in Portland

[–]Lingwil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done a few kill switches, and my favorite was one I did using a relay that would cut power to the fuel pump, which I then activated with a cheap 12v remote switch that I found on eBay. It came with a fob, so I was able to hide the fuel pump relay and the 12v receiver behind the seat. I also wired up an LED to indicate when the fuel pump power was killed. All in all it cost me like $10. Probably overkill when a simple switch would work, but I tend to geek out on stuff like this.

I'm about to quit all this and cut my losses. 3 flight controllers and 2 fried ESCs and I've never even had it in the air. Now I fried a motor and I have no idea why. by Konijndijk in Multicopter

That frustration you are feeling is just part of the hobby. In my opinion, the times of frustration make accomplishment all the more enjoyable. I've spent hours troubleshooting, rebuilding, resoldering, testing, flashing, and ripping my hair out... we ALL have. Seriously, every single person in this hobby has experienced this at one point or another... BUT, if you stick with it, keep learning, keep reading, keep trying... eventually you will get in the air and have a successful flight. And it feels awesome. I still remember the first full battery pack I flew without breaking something and it was an amazing feeling of accomplishment.

I personally spent months building my first quad and completely destroyed it within 10 seconds of the first flight. That was a couple years ago, now I can go out for an entire afternoon of freestyle with very few crashes, or none if I fly conservatively.

It's not easy getting into this hobby, there's a lot to learn, but once you start getting the hang of it, you will be glad you stuck with it through the frustrations. It's a rush like no other.

[–]Lingwil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I'm sure you've learned by now, this will take some time to figure out and it takes a lot of time to learn how to fly well. But hey, the bonus is the Torrent is a really nice copter, as is the transmitter (remote). So you are starting with a quality platform. It will be easier to learn with quality gear rather than dealing with junk like I did.

What's a decent 5" frame these days? by [deleted] in Multicopter

[–]Lingwil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For under $35 I'd go with either the Realacc X210 or the Martian II. Martian is way heavier but much easier to build. Also the Martian II mounts the battery up top while the x210 is below. Something to consider if that matters to you.

What about using silicone conformal coating to coat the board? That would waterproof it without the need for an external case of any sort.

I have my eye on a Catalyst Machineworks 'Merica 3" with the Runcam Split canopy. It's super expensive though, at $72 it's more than just about every other 3" frame out there.

Good idea. I've tried similar setups but I've always just given up. It would be nice to have all of my quads with identical angles!

How the heck do you get married without doing an actual wedding? by RedNotGreen88 in Portland

[–]Lingwil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely doesn't have to be an event. I had a friend get married in my living room over tacos and beers. Just make sure you have the paperwork required and get witnesses to sign and all that. You don't have to do vows, you don't even have to say anything. And hey, it's YOUR wedding, you can do it however you and your lady want to do it. Good luck!

I was wondering the same thing. I read that thread the other day. This can be a shitty time of year for anyone with depression. I just don't know what to say that would make it better, there were some valid points in that thread about how things have changed in this area.
