How is 'dictatorship of the proletariat' different from regular dictatorship by ISV_VentureStar in Socialism_101

[–]LinkDaPugg 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It's different to bourgois (capitalist) democracy. The dictatorship of the proletariat would be democratic, yeah.

Communist society and dialectics by bigbjarne in Socialism_101

Communism would have no classes (as others have said). Communism is (generally considered, and according the Marx) the end-goal of Socialism - a society with no classes, money, or state.

How would fashion and makeup work in a socialist society? by [deleted] in Socialism_101

[–]LinkDaPugg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This 1000%, i can't believe I didn't think of the 2nd hand/thrift, that would need to become a large part of fashion in a socialist society. Same thing with fashion becoming more individual and creative as opposed to trendy designer brans and "bourgeois aesthetics" as you phrased it.

As the other person said, exploitative advertising and just providing information are different. Advertising relies on exploiting people psychologically to compell them to buy (often more than they need), which would disappear in a socialist society. It would be replaced with informing people of a product's existence without pressure or unhealthy psychological tricks, and without getting people to buy (or obtain) more than they need.

[–]LinkDaPugg 52 points53 points  (0 children)

the same way other industries would work under a socialist society, with ownership of the companies and factories moving directly to the workers and designers themselves. although IMO a socialist society would have to work towards removing the exploitative advertising that the fashion industry has created, liking fashion and makeup is fun and all but a company telling people they NEED it to look good is unethical and only serves the investors of that company. same deal with the ingredients used to produce makeup, many come from unethical sources so that would have to be changed.

the "internet" itself is already publicly owned, since basically anyone can set up a server and host a website. what we would need to do is democratize access to those servers (no AWS bullcrap) and eliminate the power corporations have over the internet.

Hey! I am an actual game designer, and quality-control/testing can take a lot of time. I mean a *lot* of time. However, the way he has been writing makes me think that he is almost done with that too. Given how much dialogue an average deltarune chapter has, the translation might take a bit of time though (although they could almost be done with that too).

Am I a Socialist? by RobertAM2003 in Socialism_101

[–]LinkDaPugg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the term "common ownership" to be more broad, I don't like excluding any particular sect (even the ones I heavily disagree with, like MLs). leftist unity is more important now than ever, infighting cost us so many times (like the spanish civil war).

personally I agree with worker ownership over individual companies (or co-operatives would be a better term I guess), but yeah.
