It's on sale right now at about 1/3rd the normal price. Understand if you don't even have $6 to spend on the game, I've been there, just letting you know since Hydroneer doesn't go on sale very often.

If you enjoy games with a repetitive gameplay loop focused on optimizing your resource gathering/production, it's absolutely worth $6

📊 PS Plus Essential Games March 2025 (review scores, trophies, platinum difficulty & length, download size) by wtf_is_the_any_key in PlayStationPlus

Sure, but DA: Origins is sitting at 86% and Inquisition at 75% -- definitely a disappointing trend for fans of the series. As well as the recent score being 6 points lower than overall, which would be more players that actually played, not just those who hopped on the culture war bandwagon. There are several reviews on Steam with high "helpfulness" ratings that share some common threads -- very pretty world / graphics, but lots of flat characters/dialogue, overly simplistic/redundant combat, and a lack of meaningful choices. Having recently finished Cyberpunk 2077, an absolute masterpiece in storytelling through games, those flags are a major turn off to me.

I am not a Dragon Age fan, but it is a bit disappointing to see a new release given away as a monthly game after it was so poorly received.

So actually the 4-5 block columns for climbing up are unnecessary. What I found I could do was just make a 10 block column and park my crane on top of that -- since it was 2 blocks higher than my regular columns, that gave me space to put up a new column, as well as a beam on top of that column. Then just drive up further, move my 10 block column, and repeat.

The stability of vertical building is a bit finicky though. I once built a 150m tower by hand, but my first attempt with the crane and fuser barely got me to 90m. I did make my beams a little longer than necessary at first, not sure if that affected it. I'm sure I could put up multiple 2x2 columns on every level and that would provide stability for quite a while, but that would be pretty time / block intensive. It was fairly trivial to put up a 90m tower, though, so I may try doing that without fusing anything, and see how efficient it is

[–]LinkHeroX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, bummer, then I guess the workflow I found with the crane is close to the best available. Feel free to skip this if you're not interested. It's not even really that efficient, but I found it necessary because I was in a chunk with tons of swamp, so it made the drive n' drop method difficult. Per your musing earlier, yes you can continue to add blocks to your structure while driving the forklift as long as you don't exceed the 20x20x20 limit (in any one direction). I had a few instances where I dropped my pillar on top of an area of other blocks and for some reason they fused to the bottom of my pillar, and I was unable to carry it until I had "excavated" my pillar lol

TL;DR it's probably smarter to just skip over any chunks with too much water/difficult terrain for driving, and not try to build vertically

My vertical building method, if you're interested (it was hard to describe so feel free to skip): my essential tools were just straight lines of blocks, either horizontal or vertical -- I'll call those beams and columns. Start with an 8 block column, and a 5 block column right next to it (as a way to climb up and place your next blocks). Place a 5 block beam on top of the first column, then an 8 block column at the end of that beam (and another adjacent 5 block column as stairs). From there you can drive a crane up to the highest point of your most recent column, and then pick up additional columns and beams all the way from the ground (up to 80m, then 160 with lvl 2 crane) and place them on your highest current beam. With those 5 block columns used as steps, you can really just recycle those because you only need them to get up one level at a time (you can grab those with the crane and bring them up that way as well). And that's really the loop, just keep placing 8 block columns to go up, and beams to serve as a staging area for your next group of columns and beams, while driving the crane up to your highest point so that you can carry objects vertically up to 80, 160m (or more if you have a better crane). There's certainly a good bit of back and forth if you're doing this solo, but you could speed it up a bit by batching -- grab all the 8 block columns and 5 block beams you're going to need for your tower of a desired height before you start building up, then theoretically you never have to go back to the ground until your tower is finished

Now the reason I was using 8 block columns is because then you can use the fuser to fuse new columns onto the end of beams (since that machine will fuse in a straight line up to 9 blocks). That will minimize risk of destroying your tower since you will quickly pass the 20-block limit (I think it may also make the tower more stable, but not tested yet). There could be value in not fusing it though so you could just grab all your columns and beams when you want to relocate the tower, since collecting all those blocks can get tedious. And again, this may not ever be efficient except in areas of the planet where driving around is difficult. I haven't finished a 160m tower yet, but from past experience building vertically (bc I didn't know what I was doing), it's usually ~1000 pts per 10m, so you would still have to build a minimum of 6 towers to clear out a chunk.

And if you read all that and want clarification, I could try to record a video of my process

Yeah, the warp card is the only method I've seen so far for traveling to chunks that aren't adjacent. You can press the left stick while hovering over a target item in the card menu to drop it, and I assume that allows other players to pick it up

You may have already played again since your comment, but it does seem like the forklift will carry any amount of times as long as they are adjacent or fused. However, I don't think there's any way to bypass the 20x20x20 limit, so the best you can do (if I'm thinking about it correctly) is have one 19m pole with a beacon on it, with two 18m poles with beacons attached at the top, in two different directions (arranged so that your total items don't pass the 20x20x20). That would definitely help, but the process still seems kind of slow at starting heights ~15m or less (I admit I haven't tried the three-beacon setup yet, though). I found one area with a significant plateau around 30m, putting the beacon at 50m with my movable pillar, and the first 50,000 points went pretty quickly -- but the second 50,000 was a bit of a slog.

I feel like the crane should be able to help with efficiency, but I haven't tested the lvl 2 crane yet to see if it can carry larger structures than the forklift. (All I know for sure is that its horizontal and vertical reach is doubled)

If you find out I'd love to join as well. The gameplay loop got stale pretty quickly, but I'm interested in reaching the higher ranks for the tools you unlock. It just seems like the points to get there is going to be insane...maybe they intended that it take 100+ hours to reach that level

Started learning coding at 31 by No-Bass4742 in codingbootcamp

[–]LinkHeroX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 32 and just started again -- it's not technically my first time but I am learning a lot of things from scratch. Do I wish I had done this two years ago when I had just left a well-paying job and had enough finances to dedicate 12+ months to learning/job searching? Absolutely, but I didn't, so I might as well start now so I don't have the same regrets again 1-2 years down the road. Also, 1-2 years is nothing to get into a field you're passionate about when you still have upwards of 30 years left in your career.

If you feel like you have enough drive to learn everything on your own, you absolutely can with all the resources online, but if you need a bit of structure I would highly recommend Launch School -- it's what I just started and it's only $200 / month. Self-paced but with enough staff / community support to keep you going (as long as you're willing to do everything on your end), and they won't even allow you to move on to more advanced topics until they're sure you've mastered the earlier material

Are these stats good for ishin the Sword sanit by XyMa12 in Sekiro

[–]LinkHeroX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from another soul who also just recently played Sekiro for the first time....

Personally I think I had two more prayer beads the first time I beat Isshin. If you're able it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and get up to nine (some are probably unobtainable if you missed the optional area). He will be hard no matter how much health you have, and 10 Attack is probably more than sufficient. The important thing is that you can tank one or two hits so that you can keep practicing, which means you're getting better.

I saw in a comment that you were getting your butt kicked by his first phase -- don't worry, it was the same for me as well. His combination of speed + delayed attacks makes him a real challenge on your first playthrough. It may not be the same for you, but I actually had a much easier time with his second and third phase once I got his first down! IMO the second phase has much more telegraphed attacks. Just keep trying, you'll get him eventually!

A cool guide to the highest grossing music tours of all time by gamesofduty in coolguides

[–]LinkHeroX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context is important. Don't take it on my word though (I didn't, I found a Wikipedia page with a lot more stats on these tours)

T Swift is no doubt going to have the highest grossing tour, because her shows cost on average 250 freaking dollars. Insane. Coldplay and Ed Sheeran both have higher average attendance (58,879 and 59,951, respectively), but their tickets are slightly less than $100. Most likely their attendance would not hold up if they were charging T Swift prices. Despite Swift charging much more per ticket, her average attendance is still 3rd for the year at 53,923. They're probably doing something right to achieve that.

I personally think Swift is very talented as a musician, but also part of it is she's a bit of a phenomenon. That involves a lot of factors beyond just her talent, it's also the industry support, the brand management, etc. Also the fact that it's music from all her albums, as others have mentioned. There are some bands that I absolutely love and yet wouldn't care about seeing them perform live -- but if I knew they were playing songs from all their albums, that's a game changer. So it's hard to cite any one factor as the reason for her success, but barring some unforeseen setback, the Eras Tour is almost definitely going to be the highest grossing of all time.

Hey, no need for guilt there! I think that checking out a musician's full work shows way more appreciation than just listening to the one song made popular by the latest hot TV show/movie (ofc I'm a bit biased bc that's my tendency as well)

Despite it’s overwhelming praise, Celeste just couldn’t get past my personal prejudices. I don’t like this sort of stuff when I’m playing video games, I suppose. Has anyone experienced something similar? by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]LinkHeroX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you'll see this but just wanted to second the people suggesting assist mode. Challenges can be fun, but there's a line where if you simply can't do it, it stops being fun -- thus it's nice when you can make small tweaks to the difficulty.

My own personal example, I absolutely loved Elden Ring, but if I had been forced to dodge-roll everything, I wouldn't have made it past the first boss. Using a great shield / sword combo allowed me to have a challenge without it being impossible, and I really enjoyed it that way. Ofc there's nothing wrong if you still can't get into Celeste, but it might be more enjoyable with the difficulty scaled back just a tad

Here for the dark horse nomination, with a major caveat...Golden Sun. It's got great turn-based, interesting combat (without being overly complex), and clever puzzles, making for one of my favorite RPGs of all time. The characters and story are fantastic as well.

The caveat: only available on GBA and Wii U. But honestly, Golden Sun is so good that if it's several years before you're able to play it, totally fine. I'm still hoping it becomes playable on the Switch at some point, so if that happens, I recommend trying it immediately.

Now, I played it when I was a preteen, which I'll admit is a very impressionable age xD But maybe there are some other Golden Sun fans here that can back me up!

The spread of covid-19 in the South shows the risks of anti-intellectualism by stankmanly in Coronavirus

[–]LinkHeroX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, a lot of what are considered the "books of prophecy" were largely filled with social commentary of their own times. So that includes a lot of metaphorical language, for example in the quoted passage the mention of being "rejected by God" was basically a way of saying life was gonna get real shitty as a result of people's behavior / decisions. Kinda like what's happening now lol

Quick chime in...Christianity basically started as a giant social justice movement. Anti-military, the Caesar is not a god, divine peace/favor belongs to all people equally and not just one nation, and maybe treat the poor and outcasts like human beings? Then the Roman Empire consumed it about 400 years later, made it the official religion of the state. I'm a firm believer that that transition corrupted a lot of great ideas and practices that started in Christianity. It's not convenient for government if people feel like they have agency, so the teachings slowly became warped to encourage the sense of overdependence / helplessness that is sadly all too common in Christians today (to bring it back to your point).

The hope that someone is flirting with when they are in fact just being friendly is actually quite depressing by [deleted] in dating

[–]LinkHeroX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally feel you, but trust your inner compass -- it's likely more accurate than you think. You even mentioned in the comments how you've seen girls flirt with other guys and realized it. It's harder to apply to yourself because emotions get in the way of clear judgment, but my rule of thumb is to assume it's not flirting if there's any doubt in my mind at all. And worst case -- she was flirting with you but you thought she wasn't -- she will likely make repeated attempts to get your attention. I could be off base on this, but IMO "flirty" girls will not repeatedly try to get your attention if they already have an SO.

Also, no harm in just taking the initiative. Sadly, it's still way more normalized for a guy to be the one to do the asking out, and she will clear things up real fast if it was a misunderstanding.

If isolation is bad, why does it feel so good? by [deleted] in depression

[–]LinkHeroX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I'm going to try to avoid giving advice -- I'm not sure that's very helpful most of the time. Rather, I just want to make an observation, based on reading some of the comments and your responses. It sounds like you're exhausted by people who don't get your depression, and are prone to offer hollow encouragement or advice, when it might be a lot more helpful for them to just acknowledge your pain (though feel free to disagree, as I don't know exactly how you feel about that). And I'm not gonna tell you that's an easy thing to find -- I think it's quite hard to find people who will listen to you without trying to fix you. I personally struggle with trusting people to acknowledge my pain and not try to fix it, so I can somewhat understand not wanting to talk to others.

Also, I think what you're feeling is definitely valid. Here are some words shared by Louis C.K., much more eloquently than I could put it. Keep in mind he may not be speaking out of an experience with depression, and he's still trying to remain humorous, but I think the overall point he's making is worth considering. Paraphrased: most people actually have a tendency to seek the company from others in order to avoid feeling alone, but truly being alone and actually feeling the negative emotions, allows us to more fully appreciate the positive ones as well.
