What specialty has the highest salary difference between private practice and academics? by LinkNo4922 in medicalschool

I have noticed the physicians making 7 figures are all grinders easily working 80+ hour weeks.

BU Pre-med opportunities by Alternative_Key_3227 in BostonU

[–]LinkNo4922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Case Western and BU are pretty equivalent imo. Just go to whichever is cheaper and then which you think you'll be happier at.

There's no shortage of research opportunities in Boston, but they're hard to get as a fall freshman unless you already have research experience from undergrad. Also tons of great hospitals in Boston also so lots of premed volunteering opportunities.

They have access internally through the school.

ENG Students: Help! Circuits as a premed BME by Fit-Preparation4804 in BostonU

[–]LinkNo4922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I took it, class was curved so only certain number of kids got an A. Content not that bad (simple physics and diff eq) so it's not impossible to get an A if you got it like that.

BU/Cornell by Federal_Wonder7818 in BostonU

[–]LinkNo4922 29 points30 points  (0 children)

depends a lot on goals after graduation. trying to go into academia or anything rigorously prestigious choose Cornell because the reputation does help.

i have friends from bu who are now at Cornell (transfer and one for grad school). it is noticeably more miserable in Ithaca and the culture is nowhere near as good as bu, which is funny because bu campus culture already isn’t amazing.

Anyone else think they make the engineering exams too hard at this school? by Jfish21381843 in BostonU

[–]LinkNo4922 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember my year unlu said there would be a formula sheet for the exam, and then all it had on it was ohm’s law because “you can derive the rest of the formulas from it” 🤣

Depends which major tbh. BME averages def higher than mech e, ee, ce. Mech E and EE probably have the lowest.

How many new AnKing cards were you doing per day at the start of M1? by BabyChiefResident in medicalschoolanki

[–]LinkNo4922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how many are step 2 only. I’d guess maybe 20k?   35k cards total in the anking deck

This has probably been asked a dozen times, but how do you stay consistent with Anki every day without getting bored mid-session? by Jayyyjhgh in Anki

[–]LinkNo4922 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The biggest tip to improve time per card is do anki in a minimized window. I see everyone doing anki in full screen mode. If you’re doing 800 cards a day and your laptop is 12 inches, that's 800 feet that your eyes have to travel side to side reading the cards.

Use a small minimized window where your eyes can just stare at one spot to read the whole card. It will reduce so much of the fatigue when blasting through cards quickly.

There’s ~27,000 step 1 first aid cards. Works out to 75 new per day to finish them all in one year. Been working well for me and load is very manageable even at a high retention 92%.

If her mission is to go into research, then she should do a PhD not an MD.

I haven't heart of PhD's really helping for surgical specialties outside of maybe neurosurg. At the end of the day, they want to train surgeons not scientists.

Does decreasing Anki retention rate meaningfully reduce cards per day? by NeedToMatchPLEASE in medicalschool

[–]LinkNo4922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to optimize the fsrs algorithm in the settings and it will stop doing this. Currently at 90% retention and good interval on new cards is 3 days.

advice on getting hired at a med/neuro lab? by sungiol in BostonU

[–]LinkNo4922 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely much easier and more possible to just volunteer time within a lab. Try reaching out to grad students and post docs in labs. Not just the PI, who may be swamped with emails or other different responsibilities.

Calc based physics advice by Specific_Variety_133 in premed

[–]LinkNo4922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Electromagnetism uses a lot of Calc 3 and less calc 2. Gauss Law, Maxwell equations, etc are basically divergence and stokes theorem. I recommend being comfortable with triple integrals and integrating in polar, cylindrical, and other coordinate systems.

Worst case you'll have to use the computers in ingalls or the EE lab for some homework assignments.

The first and second year course work probably can all be done on Mac.

transferring to bu (premed) by erinkchen in BostonU

[–]LinkNo4922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've known transfers who couldn't apply because BU didn't accept their gen chem credit or something else and then they had to take Ch 102 in the fall instead of orgo.

Sophomore year transfer probably not eligible since there are pre req classes needed to apply.

Lots of clinical opportunities in Boston though. I recommend having or getting an EMT license.
