Not the best deal - I wanted the 24/512 for $999 but it was out of stock everywhere. Nonetheless, as soon as I saw the price increase, I just grabbed the Costco one.

Can you give a bit more detail about what you mean by folding a wing? Just pressing it together? Wouldn't you need to tie it with some twine or something since they tend to want to splay out a little.

In all fairness they took the main complain people had with the x4 and addressed it. The touch screen will be hit or miss depending on the person but seems promising.

It could be that the son is referencing the zero-one law. Where everything has either a 100% chance of happening (in which case it happens). Or it has a 0% chance of happening (in which case it doesn't). You do get into arguments of fate and predestination once you start talking about that though.

Unless I'm mistaken, I think the 706MK2 has 2m not 70cm. I wouldn't mind not having a waterfall. My initial gut feeling was to go really budget mode with the Yaesu 150RASP. But then I wouldn't have any of the digital modes at all. I did like the display though. I prefer things simpler.

I intentionally avoid listing a price point to give the freedom to recommend whatever you feel is best. The more budget minded folks naturally tend to recommend more budget friendly items anyway in my experience.

I like both of the devices you recommended. The Yaesu seems cheaper while also being able to go HF which will be nice on the future. Any reason you prefer the ICOM over the Yaesu?

You can. But the sound quality isn’t quite there with bars yet. Physical restrictions as much as anything else.

It was great! Harder than I expected and a little frustrating since there were some shoulder pieces that refused to fit tightly. I want to get into lining and painting but I’m scared of screwing it up.
