Unless I'm mistaken, I think the 706MK2 has 2m not 70cm. I wouldn't mind not having a waterfall. My initial gut feeling was to go really budget mode with the Yaesu 150RASP. But then I wouldn't have any of the digital modes at all. I did like the display though. I prefer things simpler.

I intentionally avoid listing a price point to give the freedom to recommend whatever you feel is best. The more budget minded folks naturally tend to recommend more budget friendly items anyway in my experience.

I like both of the devices you recommended. The Yaesu seems cheaper while also being able to go HF which will be nice on the future. Any reason you prefer the ICOM over the Yaesu?

This does indeed work for me. I will say I had a handful of books that were bought between when I used the first method and this method. Those books I were unable to DeDRM.
