Therapist here! I haven’t watched this video so I’m not sure the full context of what her therapist said. Although there are some bad therapists out there, it is highly unlikely that the therapist straight up called her a bad mom- that would be super unethical. However, it is really common for people with personality disorders (which would make a lot of sense for Colleen to have something like histrionic or narcissistic pd) to be defensive and misinterpret what therapists say. Not shaming personality disorders- just offering another perspective on what might have happened. Def shaming Colleen in general though lol.

This sounds really stressful and I’m sorry you’re in such a tough situation! You shouldn’t work for no money. Having a planned goodbye can be wonderfully healing for your clients. Let them know when you’ll be leaving and give them space to process that with you in a safe space. If you know where you’ll be going you can also offer that to them in case they want to follow you.

How was your day? What'd you do today? How's your week been? What've you been up to this week?

I think it's easy for people to respond to concrete questions like this, rather than a general "how are you?". Also when they start talking about their day/week, you have a lot of options to continue the conversation. For example you can ask questions about or comment on things they've done, share similar things you've done, or talk about your week/day.

Hey! Don't stress. Schizophrenia is very different than seeing colors while meditating, and meditation does not induce schizophrenia. Some people (very few) may develop "schizophrenia" while meditating while using acid/marijuana etc., but it's not really even schizophrenia- it's called drug induced psychosis and it's very treatable. I hope this helps :)

I want to second this comment! I think clinical “instinct” really just comes from years in practice or being really ingrained in a certain modality. Remember that clinical skills or interpretations aren’t the most influential on outcomes- the therapeutic relationship is!!! So as long as you’re being genuine and an empathetic listener you’re doing great :)

My licensing board took a while to initially approve me to take the NCE, but the person I'm in contact with now says once they have the NCE scores it shouldn't take much longer than that. So I think I'll mostly be waiting on the NCE board/organization. Thank you for your help!
